The Jets didn't toss him for Rex Grossman, they tossed him for Brett Favre and because they couldn't keep both while remaining under the salary cap. The guy can still play but no, he cannot thrive in a vertical passing game as his arm is just not in position to be in that type of offense. He is now restricted to being a game manager, giving the ball to the backs and throwing 3-10 yard passes with some long ones mixed in once in a very long while (but they're as slow as syrup while traveling through the air).

Is his arm really that bad? I only watch the Jets play when it's against the Phins and he always has great games

For some reason he always plays well against Miami but yes, his arm is that bad. Sure he can lob a 25 yard pass down the sideline but over the middle of the field? One of three things will happen.

    1. Your receiver will get killed.
    2. Intereception.
    3. If a Cornerback or Safety for some reason isn't in sight for 10 yards, they'll be a lucky catch.

Anything over 10 yards, maybe 15, Chad has to throw down the sideline or at the sideline and DB's are very good at controlling the sideline catches, for the most part. He definitely limits an offense but if you have a good running game and a good defense, he can win some games for you.

The organization had less than 24 hours to trade him and everyone knew that we had to release him. Again, the Jets didn't dump him for Rex Grossman, they dumped him for Brett Favre. Chad's a good game manager who is best when reduced to 25 passes a game. He needs a strong running game and good defensive play, if not great defensive play, to succeed. If your team is QB'd by Chad Pennington you can also rule out a 4th quarter comeback if down by 13 or 14. You can also rule out expecting your team to score more than 17 points a game unless the defense you face is hideous or having an off day.

They didn't have the chance to trade him. They needed to dump his salary b/c they were taking Favre's 12 million on.

    Why don't folks understand this?

so basically chad pennington is jay feidler with smaller ears and a injury history. do we really want that? i'd almost rather bring in carter if the only rocks we turn over are at the trash heap. the only good that could come is picking his brain about the jets.

    Fixed.

Though I do agree that penny is garbage and I'm still hoping for a miracle from either Beck or Henne to start.

It's like flipping over a drowned body and hoping by performing CPR you can breath new life into him. He's a Jet, leave him faced down in the water.

I think Pennigton can still be a starter in this league, I'm just not sure he makes sense with this team. We are going to be a running team first, no doubt, but we will have a vertical passing game to help open running lanes. If Pennington can't back up the safeties our running game suffers.

Is that why EVERYONE under the sun has reported Chad's agent has been contacted by Miami?

We had that with Fiedler, same exact type of offense. I really dont want to go through that again. Smashmouth football mixed in with a little bit more creativity I can handle, but not ultra conservative, play not to lose crap again.

Really? Is that why Brett Favre with all his records wasn't traded until three days after his reninstatement? It doesn't work like that in August.

Teams knew that he had to be released so why bother giving up a Day 2 pick for a guy who will be released by 4pm? The Jets' GM even came out on a Conference Call at 1am after they aquired Favre and said Chad would not be a Jet by 4pm that day.

Most teams are set at the Quarterback position, Miami is the only team interested in him as a possible starter. All other teams that have inquired view him as a back-up and maybe Miami does too but there have been no reports to say that, yet.

It took GB three days to work a Favre trade.

They had offers on the table. They were holding out for better ones. For Pennington, the Jets may have taken a 12 pack of beer.

Again, you're failing to realize they had to cut him in less than 24 hours. Teams knew this and weren't going to give up a draft pick for a guy who was going to be released.
