Imagine if we had just started this guy for most of the season, as some of us suggested we do? Would have been invaluable experience. Oh well. I like what I'm seeing so far with him.
He's earned consideration for the job for 2026. I do not want the team to sign a high priced free agent or draft someone high. Perfectly content having a Fiedler vs Huard type camp battle with someone to see who can be the placeholder for 2026.
I love the energy Ewers brings, natural leadership. I think he's better than a Fiedler, as his arm is so so so much better than Jay's. Hell, I'd take a Fiedler with a cannon arm. The biggest problem with Fiedler was his arm strength.
IMO just as big of a problem was the fact that he seemed to think he was a lot better than he was. SO often, he tried to do more than he was capable of and it hurt the team. I don't remember the numbers now, but there was a point where I kept count of how many games he cost us by refusing to take a check down.

What I like about Ewers is how calm and cool he is behind center his first two games. Like the pocket awareness his accuracy and arm is more than good enough. Let’s see how he looks when D‘s actually gameplan for him.
He's capable of playing QB in the NFL, which is a huge step up from every other non-Tua QB since McDaniel was hired. Also better than most of the other backups we've had since Matt Moore moved on.
Not happy with the win but he definitely showed he should be the starter next year.We don't have the money to sign anybody and this is not a great Qb draft. Who knows maybe he turns into something with a full season to play and we won't need to draft one.
Ewers now has the 10th most passing yards in a season by a Dolphins rookie. He would move up to 6th with 280 yards next week, which would put him behind the four first round picks in team history plus Woodley.
We dont have the money to pay or trade for a qb.. ewers with a full offseason as the number 1 will have to do.
My first choice would be to draft another QB late to pair with him and just roll with that. If it works, then awesome. If it blows up in their face, then we get a total reset and a high draft pick. I can see them signing someone like Kenny Pickett, Mitch Trubisky, or Case Keenum as the other guy if they sit around free agency for a while and come cheaper.
I think Mac Jones being familiar with Shanahan’s offense and looking good in it this season and Mcdaniels connection with Shanahan… he will be a qb they target to bring in for competition
Too expensive for my blood, personally. I'm not saying that the future Dolphins GM won't do it. Just that I wouldn't. I see it as a waste in what's likely a down year.
I don’t see how you couldn’t be happy with the win. If you are somehow under the impression that a higher draft position than being in the top 10 is going to be significantly better for the team, then it’s a pipe dream. We aren’t going to be in any position to draft Mendoza. He’s going to the Raiders. They aren’t passing on him nor trading that pick. If anything, today’s game demonstrated the Dolphins don’t need to rely on quarterback heavy play. We need smart quarterback play and Ewers gave us that.
I personally want to see us draft a guy. The competition can't hurt. I like what Ewers is doing, but I'm far from comfortable with him as our guy after two games. We're moving on from Tua, and thank god for that. I don't think Ewers earns anything in just three games starting. It should be an open competition next preseason. I'd like to see us draft a guy, and I'd like to see us bring in a low-risk/high-reward free agent that will absolutely be affordable, and that's Sam Howell. Malik Willis should get a look, too. So ideally, you'd have Ewers, Howell, or Willis (both have some experience), and a rookie. You roll with that in 26. The competition would be worth it. We won't have a definite answer to the position until we start looking for it. I definitely like what I've seen from the kid so far tho. How awesome would this be if we just hit on this draft pick and he pulls a Brock Purdy like he's always been here? He's a gutsy chithead, and I like that. He's every bit the type of competitor you want out there. It's no wonder he gets compared to Baker Mayfield. I think that's what McDaniel meant when he used the word "conviction" when the switch was made at Quarterback. He wanted someone who's going to compete and have fun doing it. Ewers was having fun today. I like how cool he is under pressure. Get him some better pass blocking, and I think he can probably carve a few defenses up in this league. As Resnor alluded to, I really wish he had more time with him. I think we'd be much clearer on things had we seen more of him, but I understand why McDaniel stuck with Tua until we were mathematically toast. Also...The way he chucks it around. He's got an arm on him; there is no denying that. He is making all the throws in this offense, and he's making it look effortless doing it. I'm not saying he's Josh Allen, (and maybe his arm is mid, and I'm just stuck in the Tua Deadlights), but he looks like he can make all the throws that need to be made. I'm can't wait to see how things would look next season if we decide to upgrade the defense, shore up the O Line, and maybe add another receiver. If we can just get the defense right, and by right I mean upper echelon of the league right, we'll be fine with Ewers as our guy until we know for sure. In the meantime, we get a finale against the Patriots, who will probably be resting guys, so D'Ernest Johnson HOF game, and maybe the famous Ewers to Wease connection again? I'd like the season to end on a high note, and that would be Ewers playing good football and leaving us wanting more.
think it would do ewers well if he can get to 225 lbs, currently listed at 209.. he has good enough height at 6’2, i just want him to be a little bit stronger because this line isnt going to be fixed this upcoming season and we need him to be able to absorb hits.. also maybe if he can get some strength on the legs we can use him on sneaks/draws, which was rarely a called play for Tua with his bad hips and concussion history. If Mac Jones is looking to get paid like Darnold then yea i dont want him here at that price.. but at a price for an open qb competition im okay with..

Ewers is going to be a serviceable backup quarterback in this league. Whatever team McDaniel is coaching in 2027 I'm sure he will be in the backup quarterback mix.
I agree. He's going to be a solid backup. An open competition is the only way though. No way should we just declare him the guy and not even attempt to upgrade the quarterback position. If we hit with Ewers that would be great. Rare...but it'd be cool. That being said, I don't think he's it and playing the 2nd and 3rd string players on the Patriots is not going to convince me. If we're getting rid of Tua, this needs to be an open competition with Ewers getting some consideration.
His 1st TD pass yesterday was about as good as it gets in the NFL and it's a ball that very few rookies could throw. Heck, very few NFL veterans could throw that pass, including Tua. People don't realize that Ewers was ranked the #1 QB in the nation going from HS to college and he was highly recruited in the transfer portals as well. He stayed put out of team loyalty and didn't play for national championships, so he wasn't highly recruited at this level. That has zero to do with talent though and the kid has always had it in spades. Ewers is better than Tua today and he's had two starts as a rookie. He can certainly be our QB in 2026 and beyond with time to develop. The kid reminds me of Matt Moore, who reminds me of Brett Favre, and I think he could have a bright NFL future. I don't get the serviceable backup talk at all since this kid has been great at every level and proven people wrong.
I‘d like McCorkle as well for the right price (battle of the Tua backups), then draft someone and let them battle it out.
yeah I agree. I'd just as soon roll with Ewers next season, if he's bad we get a good pick in a QB rich draft. If he's good then there's nothing to worry about.
Ok, then WHO is the best player on the board that you feel sabotaging progress is worth intentionally losing for? The Raiders have 2 wins The Giants, Cardinals, Titans and Jets have 3 wins The Browns and Redskins have 4 wins Had we lost yesterday, there would STILL be 7 teams ahead of us in the draft so what difference does 1 win make when you still have that many sh!tty teams ahead of us? You know, I don't get some of the posts around here. I really don't. Several weeks back there were calls to bench Tua, start Ewers and let the Dolphins lost without intentionally losing (I'm paraphrasing). Ewers gets his 2nd NFL start...giving what some of you actually called for, he wins and you're still complaining. Instead of looking at what's there, what's working, what isn't, what do we need...giving the new incoming GM (whomever that may be) what he actually has to work with, some of you are looking at the small minded concept of losing as many games as you can to get the highest draft pick possible to roll the dice on a draft pick that more often fails than succeeds.
Maybe we can reset our perspectives a little bit and bring down the temperature on the in group fighting? I get it, this year has been almost unbearable as a fan, and there was clear sides dug in, but I'm seeing some pretty mundane comments getting jumped on pretty quickly. I love the win, but a part of me still wanted the higher draft pick as well. Saying that out loud should not really start a fight. As for Ewers I'm not going to be sold by the end of this season, and I still want to take steps to give us a chance to compete next year. We have seen fools gold far too many times to accept 2 games of output as a clear sign of anything.
As far back as three or four weeks ago, when Tua was still the starter, the Fins were basically locked into a draft position ending up somewhere between #8 and #13. The losses to Pittsburgh and Cincinnati barely moved the needle in that regard, and losing this week or next week wouldn't have either. There's no real point in worrying about it. Some years its different, but the vast number of teams who were going to finish with five or fewer wins this year made it moot.
Nor should you. He's still a kid with two starts- a win and a loss. He looked good and ran the offense well, plus he has some poise and some smarts out there you generally don't see from a 7th round rookie. All of that is fantastic and reason for optimism, but it's still one win and one loss. With that said, I'm excited to see him in week 3. The Pats just locked the division with the Bills losing, so maybe they don't play all starters. That's bit them in the past though and it's a new regime, so maybe they try to make it a game. Who knows, but I'm looking forward to ending December with another win. Why? Well, when is the last time we went 3-1 in December? Maybe a decade ago under Tannehill and Moore? It's something to build on next season.
Once again I never said we are going to get the top pick but we went from 10 down to 12. I was hoping the safety from ohio state would fall to us at 8 but that probally won't happen now I just don't get why I would be happy beating another ****ty losing team when all that will do is help keep this terrible coach another year?As for Ewers I was hoping he would throw for 4 tds and 400yds and be the second coming of Dan marino but lose 35-31.He played decent and I am sure he will get his shot next year. So yes I am the dolphins Grinch as I have seen this same old season a dozen times before and the opposite of progress always occurs. Translation!Late season runs for this team do not help!
As a former athlete, every win helps more than you can imagine. Winning at all is hard in pro sports and it ultimately comes down to playing at very high levels as a team. These wins absolutely matter and it's a building block for next season. The past few seasons, Miami was in the playoffs and collapsed in December, when games matter the most. So believe me, Tampa really wanted to win yesterday to lock a playoff berth and we were the better team...that means something. New England will want to enter the playoffs on a win streak, that game will mean something as well. It all means something to the people who do it for a living.
Ewers had a decent game, but even more importantly improved game to game significantly. He hasn't played up to Tua's best of this year, or Tua's rookie year, so no he shouldn't have started with any chance of a post season. But, if he improves as much as he did first start to second again and he will have matched Tua's rookie play and I don't know how 2026 isn't planned for him. Tua fell off a cliff this year and likely needs a year as a back up to get his mind and body right at very least. I looked at the highlights from Tua's second start as rookie (also best game as rookie IMO) to put perspective on Ewers and it's stark just how different he looks. I mean Tua from then to now. 2024, wins vs Jets, Browns, 49ers, loss to Huston.
S Sorry but I can't agree here.The bucs after yesterdays loss are 1-7 in thier last 8 games including losses to the saints and falcons. This just continues the trend of the Mcdaniel regime beating bad teams.I want this guy gone. Ross needs a clean sweep.Grier,Tua and Mcdaniel also.
