That was the fault of Gibril Wilson and our linebackers. Yeremiah Bell did not give up a big play to a tight end this season.

If you know of a play where Yeremiah Bell got burnt by a tight end don't keep it to yourself. Go ahead. Prove me wrong.

If you didn't see it watching the games, then there is nothing I have available to show you to prove you wrong. So I'm just going to say you're right.

Gibril missed a tackle in the open field but he did not have coverage.

Akin was at fault (prior to Wilson missing the tackle) on that particular play. I am sure there were other completions that were Bell's fault, but that long TD was not one of them.

    Which time?!?

Crowder was toasted on a crossing route, Bell was toasted by Tony Gonzalez on opening day, Bell just whiffed on the tackle and TG scored a TD.

Vince Jackson as well got over on YBell.

    Anywho.

Well, how about some bargain FA signings?

    Wr. Chris Chambers, Domenik Hixon

NT Tank Johnson (AFAIK a FA)

    ILB..Odell Thurman

    OLB CFLer Ricky Foley

Bell was one of two defenders that got burned in the Saints game when Shockey made the long catch. Crowder had the hook/curl responsibility in the middle of the field and Bell had the over the top coverage. Crowder got moved out of his zone, Bell attempted to jump Shockey's route, mistimed it and got burnt bad.

Yep. It wasn't poor coverage. Just bad tackling. Gonzalez gave Bell the stiff arm and ran past a blocked Will Allen for a touchdown. Not one of Yeremiah's best plays to be sure.

That was Will Allen and Nate Jones. Not Bell.

Looked like zone coverage to me. Brees hit Shockey before Vontae Davis or Gibril Wilson could pick him up. Davis missed the tackle and then Shockey swatted Gibril away for 25 yards until Wilson finally tackled him. Bell actually chased him down and almost made the tackle.

Shockey caught a couple passes against Bell but nothing over 20 yards. Brees simply got the ball to Shockey before Bell could get to him from his deep safety position. Once he got there Bell immediately made the tackle.

Plus he almost had a fumble recovery in that game and ran down Mike Bell from behind preventing a touchdown.

Alen, is right. I watched the play multiple times when it happened. Bell's first step was forward, putting his weight onto his front foot, and Shockey was able to go right by. He did that several times this year.

Crowder had good coverage but it was a nice pass. Bell was burned in that game. Maybe not for a TD but he was burned. Neither one of our safties were good in coverage

Alen certainly knows his stuff but Bell is a full 10 yards away from Shockey when he catches that ball. Even if Bell's first step was forward or he attempted to jump Shockey's route there is no way he would be that far away. He wasn't chasing Shockey or attempting to recover. It seems pretty obvious to me he expected somebody else to pick up Shockey.

Its hard to tell from the You Tube video above but it looks a lot like zone coverage to me. Vontae Davis is the closet man to Shockey when he catches the ball. If I had to guess I would say Shockey was Davis's responsiblity. Then Gibril Wilson just gets embarrassed. I never ever saw Yeremiah Bell get embarrassed like that.

Guys they both aren't good.......Bell & Wilson....no need to stick up for either of them....they both had years that left much to be desired, all it was...was big play after another, over the middle deep, the sideline deep, catch and run beating those 2...they consistently were out of position....no need to breakdown and prove it, although you guys did an awesome job at doing it...FS/SS needs an upgrade....and if it is an uncapped year, I would expect Wilson to get cut....5yr contract?

It seems to me that these guys (Sparano/Ireland) are well aware that the Dolphins were goig to have trouble in deep coverage with 2 SS...I think it was a conscious decision because the alternative was they give up 5 yardss a carry but have better deep coverage..we have crappy ILBs Crowder is average at best physically and Ayodele is stiff as a board..IMO they know defense start with stopping the run and they couldnt do that with a 50 tackle coverage FS so they picked their poison and IMO they made the right choice otherwise we might have been bottom 5 against the run.

If we can cure our ILB ills Im guessing we will get the FS we all crave.

Wow. Great write-up Alen. My final word on the whole subject is this.

If you read through this thread you will find that there is a common misconception about how poorly Yeremiah Bell played this season. However the truth is he made way more plays than mistakes. Don't blame him for Gibril Wilson, our rookie cornerbacks, Nate Jones, or Will Allen's mistakes.

sorry dude... Both Bell and Wilson were good against the run BUT they were both horrible against the pass... It is hard for us to say what the real probelm is because we are not in the huddle and we do not know what defense was called and what adjustments were made but it was pretty clear both our safeties had huge problems in the pass defense department.

Showing a couple of Bells good plays does not explain away his poor play. Heck, if I wanted to I could find a couple good plays by Akin A and talk about what a great year he had...

Dammit. I wasn't to going to say anything further but I have to respond to your post. I posted that YouTube video to remind everybody of the types of plays that Yeremiah Bell is capable of making. There's no such thing as Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, or a safety who never makes a mistake. Anybody who believes that Yeremiah Bell isn't great must also believe that Ed Reed, Darren Sharper, and Bob Sanders are overrated.

I think Bob Sanders is a bit overrated at least, and I don't think Bell is great. Bell is certainly above average IMO (because of his run stopping ability), but he isn't great.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion but Bell much more than just a run-stopper. He's an excellent blitzer, reads and reacts with the best of them, and I've seen him knock down more than his fair share of passes in the endzone.

Bob Sanders is injury prone but overrated? Can't see many people sharing your opinion of him.
