That was no fluke, Ginn has taken kicks to the house in the past, he had 3 or so called back his rookie season.

And that is sort of Ginn's problem, when he does well, it is a fluke, when he does badly, that is the book on him.

#10 in the NFL FY, he would have crossed that 2k yard barrier if he had Cobb's 16 return tries, 16 x 24.7, do the math amigo. Only 8 players crossed the 2k all purpose yardage line, Ginn is definetly one of them who can do it.

Yes. It is guaranteed - so he gets it no matter what. And most of that has been paid out.

We still have to pay that if he gets cut. His cap hit is much larger to cut this year rather than wait to see if he puts it together. 2008 Ginn is still a valuable piece for this team.

He already got it. That's why trying to renegotiate the remaining sum of his salary is pretty ******ed, since it would only involve guaranteeing part of the remaining sum and/or lengthening the contract and giving him more money.

Football sense and business tell me he has 14 million dollars guaranteed out of his total 19.6 coming to him bro, do you think boom he gets a milly and that's it...?? You are playing regardless of what he does 14 million dollars over the life of the contract.....worth it?.....ultimately thats the reason why they wont cut him I believe, if they cut him today guess what....they are still playing that 14 million in nice yearly installments until 2012....although I do believe 2012 is a voidable year, might have to double check that..

The Ginn argument stopped being about Ted Ginn a while ago........now it's just apologists and bashers, poking each other with a stick

Is this true? I thought the signing bonus was amoritized over the life of the contract, unless a player is cut, whereby the remaining sum of guarenteed money allocated for future years accelerates and hits the cap in the year of the release.

If that is indeed the case, I'd prefer to take the cap hit on Ginn's remaining signing bonus this year (in an uncapped year) and have no financial commitments due to him moving forward into 2011.

Well, I try to be objective about Ted Ginn, iirc I told you that Ginn would have to have 2,000 yds for his season to be considered a success by me, and he fell short by 140yds or so.

The fact Sparano would not trust him returns until Game 5 mitigates the disappointment I have in his 09 season, people honestly expected him to be a #1 Wr, imho he won't be, he is a #3 or #4 who is a top notch returner.

Cam Cameron was more right than he knew when he said "Ginn will return kicks while learning to play Wr" well, he is still really really good at returning kicks 3yrs later...

Watch Cribbs won't play in the probowl due to his contract holdout and Ginn will sneak in..

Take him for what he is, when people don't, when phinfans project things unto Ginn THAT is when the friction starts.

Guaranteed monies are prorated through the life of the contract, he doesnt already have it, thats why if you cut somebody the prorated portion of the guaranteed monies now has to be paid out the following year i.e. dead cap space......ur right that's why he doesnt get cut, maybe the last year, or second to last year he does, and they bite the one year guarantee...however they can renegotiate the money that isnt....the 5.6...

He had two returns over over 35 yards against Carolina and a 45+ yarder that set up a score against NE. In fact he was near the top of the league in both returns of 40+ yards and 20+ yards.

Just because he had one big game doesn't mean he never did it again.

Ginn himself afaik received the $14M immediately, at the very least it is his no matter what. You are right, the bonus in regards to the cap is spread out evenly over the life of the contract. And if Ginn were to be cut the remaining bonus still held against the cap is immediately accelerated.

With the year being uncapped, we (fans at the very least) have no clue how the financial commitments will be affected going forward though.

Pads dude I totally read you, I know what your saying, I am talking him FOR what he is........(listen guys don't take any of my talk as criticizing or "know it all", this place this an awesome forum, I get juiced talking about Miami ha!) he was a number 9 2nd WR picked in the 1st round circa 2007...regardless of what he can or cant do, he was picked at 9....he isn't supposed to be solely a KO/PO without being able to break 1000 yards within 3 years, not in this pass happy NFL.....I remember that draft like it was yesterday, 9 comes up....Pat Willis is on the board, we were all like he ours.....Pat Willis was on the board....Ginn isn't what I expected...

I think most people were actually hoping for Brady Quinn. Willis wasn't a very sexy pick, even though he was probably the BPA.

We still had Zach Thomas at the time, so I think taking Willis might have been a head scratcher for many.

Regardless of where he was taken, we have him, and his draft selection really means nothing at this point. When someone like Davone Bess drops a pass or muffs a punt, we shouldn't say "Well, he was an UFA so it's ok" just as we shouldn't bash Ginn because he was #9 overall.

The criticisms about his play are just, even if they are much too frequent.

Ginn is who I thought he would be, I did think Henne taking the Qb reins would equal more long passes to Ginn but he would not be the type of Wr to break say 60 catches.

I thought he was Joey Galloway ptII more or less a weapon, but a limited one.

And at least he isn't Troy Williamson...:hi5:

So he won the game against the Jets, it would be good if we only played one game a year and it was against the Jets:lol:
What about the other 15 games where he sucked??:pointlol:

Ted Ginn had 2 great games against the Jets, one with 2 return TD's the other when he burned Revis for 50+ and a TD.

I remember Finheaven around draft time, as I'm sure others do, and I don't remember Willis as being the "consensus" guy. In fact, if memory serves, alot of people actually wanted Levi Brown, or to trade down. Amobi Akoye was another popular choice. But Quinn was defintely on the radar.

Good. I hope he stays and is given another chance next year. I really think he just had a bad season. I think he's still fully capable of being a top notch returner as well as a game breaker at receiver. He'll probably never develop into a #1, but so what? He's a more than capable playmaker when given the opportunity, IMO. I think we saw that the very few times Dan Henning decided to draw up a deep throw in his direction. If / When we add another receiver, I'd much rather keep Ginn than Camarillo.

To be honest, I want Ted Ginn gone just so we can stop talking about him on these boards. I mean seriousely, everyone is talking about him. thephins, Madison, Duper, Johnson, and now Ireland.

I'd say top 3 were Okoye, Brown, and Quinn (in reverse order) but no one really expected Quinn to be there. Brown ended up going a lot sooner than people expected. Willis may have been like the #4 want, but those other 3 guys were definitely top 3 over at finheaven.

I dont care if he helped us beat the jets twice, he also dissapeared and made bad plays in numerous other games. Hes inconsistent and there are alot of better options but this regime chooses to keep Ginn because they feel bad for him
