Case in point right there Nesbitt finally gets the ball out to Bebe and he throws it to the ground in front of him on a simple slant. About Romeus, one thing I like about him is he transitions to his counters very quickly. He doesn't seem to throttle down or push a position that isn't working, he'll continue using his hands, feet and athleticism to switch up and keep the lineman from getting comfortable
Agreed on Romeus. Today I was impressed because he did such a nice job avoiding trash at his feet with his hands and then when he was getting after the quarterback, he'd go to a quick inside move but was denied, then quickly transitioned to an outside spin and got the sack. I like him. I don't know if he'll ever be a big time sack specialist in this league but he's got talent. Btw, check this out.
Maybe my point which is a guy targeted twice in the biggest game of the season puts him off my liking
Not that I'm buying this argument that because Tech only attempted like four passes all game it must mean Bebe Thomas sucks, but one thing that someone pointed out to me to pay attention to, that I'm going to have to try and watch for on review, is that it seemed like corners stayed in their backpedal extra long against Demaryius, which is a sign they don't respect his speed. That would be interesting if true. But one thing to keep in mind is that if Amari Spivey came out he would have a shot at being the #1 CB taken.
Also another thing someone pointed out to me is after Tech won the game against Clemson here in Tampa, on the way out Bebe was asked if he was coming out and he said directly, emphatically, with a big smile on his face "No, I'm staying" And that, my friends, is the REAL reason Bebe Thomas is not "the answer" to the WR problem...not some nonsense about Tech only throwing like four or five passes all game because they run a triple option with a guy at QB that has the accuracy of an astrology calendar.
Adrian Clayborn just emphatically stated he's not changing his mind about returning to school. Too bad, he may have otherwise made a TON of money tonight.
Do you think the fact GT goes to him twice in the biggest game of his career changes that? If I am him, there is no F'n way I would go back to that disaster they call an offense.
PrimeTime, Georgia Tech run a triple option ofense featuring a 40% passer. By the very nature of the triple option you have three staple plays: the dive play which is what they run John Dwyer on, the inside gut play to the 2nd back or the option where either the QB pitches or keeps, depending on what the defense gives him on the edge. That's it. The pass is not even a seconday option because that would be the reverse. Downfield throws to your stud junior are about as likely as snow in Miami. What makes it worse for Thomas is that when Tech DO pass, everyone knows he's getting it. An almost 17 yard per catch average last season and at the start of December 2008 he had 35 catches and the next best receiver had 6. The reason they don't throw it is because of offensive philosophy and nothing to do with a lack of talent for #8.
Hilarious that I log back in this morning and we three geniuses spent a half eulogising about a converted freshman DT playing RT.
LMFAO. Classic moment right there. In all seriousness, the REAL Kyle Callaway looked pretty good too. Got away with a nice savvy hold on Morgan Burnett that sprung a touchdown run. Getting away with holding without making it look like holding, so that it goes uncalled, is a valuable skill.
This will be forever known as the "Kyle Reiff Incident". The funny part was, we all did it.....not one person saw it. Only you caught it....and that was what the third quarter? I just want to make it known that I think he has upside.
I know. I thought I evaluated Kindle, really it was Mount Cody. That explains why he looked sluggish out there. Look on the bright side we got the first rule of player evaluation down cold. Or we do now at least.......
It's an interesting thought and I've considered it, but I don't think Romeus is as big as his listing.
I agree with Con. Not only with this now be known as the "Reiff Incident" but I can see "Reiff" becoming a verb, as in "He Reiff'd it"
LOL. I only wrote it because we had 8 inches of snow last night with most of it falling whilst the DRAFT GURUS were smoking Reiffer.
No doubt I'm in the minority, but Derrick Morgan did not impress me last night, at least not with his athleticism, I thought he is technically sound, but his burst is just not that good imho. When Renzi turned the corner on Morgan and picked up the first down that sort of sealed it for me at least and it was sort of like that all game long, Morgan was just a step and a half slow in my view.
I agree. I just don't see him as a hybrid player. He would have to really impress out in space or be rock solid at setting the edge (like Roth) to make a transition worthwhile.
Damn, I never even seen this thread... great work Con, Boom, and CK... it was a great thread to read. And that Stitches/Primetime battle... Words cannot describe...
Stanzi, not Renzi (unless Renzi is some sort of nickname I don't know about lol) ... not trying to be a jerk, but he is my team's quarterback.
