None of my USB ports are working. I checked to see if the drivers are working and it said everything is working properly, yet when i plug in a USB such as a flash drive or ipod chargers nothing works... Any way i can fix this?
here the weird thing... I plug in my usb drive and it lights up. but my computer does not read it...its not the drive because it works in every other computer and my usb drive is not the only thing that wont work, my ipod and iphone wont work
First check the actual USB cables in other devices...some can plug up to a HDTV etc. If that is not it pull up BIOS as your computer loads and go through all of the options to make sure there are not any USB options under the startup (some have them and some do not....I could not say without either your mobo manual or looking at the computer itself). It's usually the USB cables, but if all of the UBS ports died at once it's probably time to pop the cover off, blow out all the dust, then get your motherboard book out and check where the USB settings are. If you do not have a manual grab a flashlight and scan the board itself; you should find two or three clusters marked USB and some motherboards have jumpers for those settings. Make sure the jumpers (little tabs that slide over 2 pins)are securely in place. While you're in there, look to see if there is anything unplugged in general or dark spots on the motherboard. If everything looks fine, it is probably a short in the motherboard itself (usually caused from overheating, too much dust, poor air curculation, cheap fans, cheap power supply, etc). Unfortunately it happens and if this were the case you would have to replace the motherboard itself to gain use of those USB ports. Before you jump to that step though, find out what caused the overheating problem in the first place so it does not happen all over again. This is the best I can offer without having your computer here. Like I said before, it's usually the USB cables themselves or a disabled setting so hopefully it's an easy fix.
here the weird thing. I pluged in my iphone and it charged it to 100% but its not reading it so it wont add any apps or songs ect...
if i completely wipe out my pc you think it would fix the problem? i have almost everything on my external hard drive and i could put anything i need on my sim card...just sucks i need to reinstall photoshop but if it fixes my problem then its worth it
A couple of things to consider first brother: What OS are you running? If XP do you have a Setup point you can revert back to. - Have you recently added any new devices? If so, I have a feeling the driver for that device might be causing the problem. If you can nail down a specific device you should be able to scan Microscum's database for compatibility issues. Of course, I am assuming you are even running windows?
yeah im running windows vista, i installed a CD Driver not long ago... I did system restore but the furthest it goes back is yesterday
Windows Vista? By CD driver, you mean a new Burner? Was it you asking about burning discs a week ago? If so, I would go to the site of said burner and get online with their tech-support.
Exactly, or see if they have a tech support with a FAQ. Chances are pretty good that is where the proble is. And chances are good you're not the first to have this problem. Just as a beta-test, I would un-install the burners and see if that's where the problem is. You will have to re-boot after un-installing.
Try this. Go into your BIOS settings (generally hit DEL while booting), there will be a setting for USB ports. TURN OFF any Legacy USP support that may be enabled. Most of the time this is not needed and will solve issues like yours. If this doesn't work simply go back into your Bios and turn it back on.
another thing before i try the bios thing, i may need a USB Composite Device driver...anyone know where i can get one
There are many pay for device driver update solutions on the market. Most people don't like to spend the money so here is a free one. RadarSync. I've used it and it seems pretty good. If it tells you something is risky to update don't do it unless you know what your doing. USB Vid Sound Drivers etc are pretty straight forward =)
Really? I hadn't used it in a while. Used to just show you a couple of adds as it scanned. Let me send you a PM.
ok i installed all the drivers and everything and still nothing, i restored my pc and still not working... but it charges my phone, i have a cooling pad for my computer and it works once i plug it to my usb, but once i put a usb in it it wont work... i may send it in as i still have it under warranty
