Just announced during the Pitt vs NC game. No link. No details. Just said he is stepping down as head coach. I'm sure this will be updated.
Per ESPn, no link yet, heard it during late 3rd quarter (about 3 minutes left)of the Pitt-UNC game. If I find a link Ill post it.
Bowden and Meyers packing it in during the same season? What were the odds? To me, what this shows is the rise of the modern College Head Coach, they are paid so highly now pulling the plug even when the team is good is feasible. Hmmm.. Ring...ring... "Hello?" "Is this Coach Wanstedt?" "it is" "I'm the AD at the University of Florida and we would like to interview you for our top spot"
The pressures on him this year were too much for him to take. Not only did his top coaches leave him but some of his players did not help by getting into trouble. I am guessing that his efforts at recruiting have taken a lot out of him too.He as been travelling to visit some of them and kids have been very fickle in their commitments. His health has suffered as a consequence I dont begrudge his decision.Family and health come first .Football is only a game.I wish him the best.He left a great legacy at Florida .
They said during an ESPN update that it is nothing that is an immediate health concern to him, and the decision is more personal.
It's a benign brain tumor. He has had it for years, causes migraines when he's under a lot of stress. Maybe things have turned for the worse of late. Godspeed Coach Meyer! Edit: It is now being reported on www.Gatorsports.com that Coach Meyer has heart problems.
So, I'm assuming he won't be coaching in their upcoming bowl game? Hope everything is good for him and his family; not a fan of UF but definitely one of the best coaches of our era. Edit: Just read he will be coaching at the Sugar Bowl.
If not Bob then Mike Stoops .Others could be Willingham who replaced Meyer at Utah .Mullen could also be in play .
Gruden is a great admirer of Meyer and the spread but would he take a college job when he is becoming a star as a broadcaster.?
Gonna be interesting Crunch. I would offer it to Lane Kiffin just to pump his his ego, then get who I really wanted. This is not a diss on UT, I happen to respect them and their tradition. I just don't care for loudmouth Lame.
I suppose it would depend on how much coaching he still has in his blood. I believe we are in good hands with Foley in charge.
I know he has a Brain Cyst but this is seemingly unrelated. I guess ND must be kicking themselves for taking Kelly.....
Broadcasting is a lot cushier job than coaching and not as near as stressful.Ask Jimmy Johnson. In fact we may see Urban Meyer in the broadcast booth now.
Lady and Gentlemen let me introduce you to the new Jacksonville Jaguars coach : Urban Meyer. And also his first round pick. Tim Tebow
Wow, just saw this and was totally surprised. I wonder if his leaving will change any of the minds of incoming recruits.
