Why Does the Page "Load" So Many Times After You Click on a Thread?

Down in the status bar there's a URL with the words "pixel.33across" that keeps reloading over and over after you click on a thread. You can't scroll down until that's finished reloading umpteen times. Was never a problem on this board until a few months ago. Very annoying. Any idea what the deal is?

i also had a lot of problems for a while when trying to post a message. For some reason I needed to connect through a VPN to be able to post.
No other web site or message board, only this one. My favorite one. Anywhere else, I'd have said oh well forget it.

Now, that condition seems to have alleviated itself. Nothing I did, just tried to access directly and not with a VPN and it works ok, for now

It looks like the advertisers on the page have incorporated a program from this website:

    http://33across.com/

...to track activity on this site, since the stuff in the status bar says "pixel.33across"

Looks like there's a whole bunch of different ad servers loading before the actual content. Doesn't seem like a VB problem to me - there's at least five or six ad servers interposed. I understand that servers are expensive and so forth but in a subscription forum I kinda wonder ... that one should pay for itself.

Has nothing to do with VB.

    We should be fine now.

Problem is that, like most bad kids, they never misbehave for their daddy. :glare:

Anyone else have a DOUBLE video display when someone posts them?

Lately, anyone posting a YOUTUBE video it seems to be doubled back to back on the page.

Is it just me that sees this?

Is it going to take some time Muck? Just wondering because it's still happening when I click on a thread. Just giving you the info so you're aware -- not trying to ***** and moan.

In case someone from the technical side is interested: I've just run a quick performance test (http://www.webpagetest.org) on this very thread and came away with a load time of 13.6 seconds. That's ... well ... a lot. A LOT.

Have you tried a "Shift Reload" (press shift while pressing reload)? Maybe it's a cache issue.

I had that very problem a couple of days ago and it kinda fixed itself. I'd wager the guess that it's simply an ad server issue (when you use multiple ad servers and have decent traffic on your site, you'll always end up with some people for whom one server doesn't properly respond). And the process you're saying causes the problem looks suspiciously like some form of an ad server.

    Pretty much.

Just go to your post, click edit, then save. It will resolve itself.

I took care of the the roast thread. I had to squint my eyes throughout as I haven't gotten to read it yet.

I've tried FF, IE8, Chrome and Safari.

Either I'm really awesome or perhaps something is caching on your machine. I'm fine with the former. ;)

What browser are you running? Perhaps install/run CCleaner (make sure to close your browser first).

None of "my" posts had this issue (from my brower) just posts that others have made that added a video.

I cant clean up their posts....

Or perhaps you could get rid of all the ads for club members? I'd gladly pay 5 bucks more if it meant no more ads and cutting load times by at least half

You have to be careful with those kinds of things because it's not really an accurate measurement of the site.

Without getting technical, it's not taking you 13.6 seconds to load a page now, is it. ;)

I agree!!! Why should we have to deal with any ads slowing things down in the section we pay to get into? That's like HBO running the same commercials as CBS, for example.

For the word Done to appear down below, on a thread page, yes it does for me. Sometimes "Done" never appears, there is some ad server waiting to load, but the page can still be navigated.

It actually is. Sure, you can navigate the page much sooner usually but if one of the ad servers causes trouble (as is the case for Shous at the moment), you're in for really long loading times. Like I said, I had a similar issue last week or so where one of the ad-whatevers didn't respond and it took easily 15 seconds to load a page and be able to navigate it rendering the forum pretty much useless until it fixed itself.
