Not necessarily........players can often be pried free for the right price. And I think if Boldin was to get a change of scenery and a trip back home to South Fl, you'd see a much better, more dependable player. A player more willing to play thru injury. As far his contract goes, he'll likely play for less for us (home town discount) and at this point, having had a couple of sub par seasons, he'll know that he needs to lower his expectations as far as money goes.... Another thing to keep in mind is whether or not next year will be uncapped....that could make a huge difference in how we approach the situation.
Speaking of Ginn and kickoffs, didn't Cribbs tie the record of two 100+ yard returns in the same game today?
Well I absolutely want to upgrade some positions on defense as well.....an ILB to take Crowder's spot and let him slide over and a Safety that isn't the walking definition of liability in the passing game, would be sweet. Just those two upgrades alone would tighten his defense up considerably, IMO. I see no reason why we can't address all three positions this coming off season.....but adam is greedy so I go first
You have to think how the FO thinks. They will not trade a first or second for Boldin. That is not how they run. And the Cardinals want at least a second for him. IMO, I would like a player like Bryant or Edwards. That would be a very good FA signing. Then draft Tate, who could replace Ginn, or Benn, who can be a very good wide receiver with us.
here is the problem as I see it. Boldin, Breaston, Marshall, Jackson and Austin will all be resigned or priced too high for our front office. They simply dont overpay for receivers regardless of our wishes. So with that said I think Ashraf was right when he said we are looking for a tier 2 type of receiver. here is a list from which i think we're adding one receiver Antonio Bryant - Tampa Bay Kevin Walter – Houston Malcom Floyd – San Diego Lance Moore – New Orleans Chris Chambers – Kansas City Josh Reed – Buffalo Bobby Wade – Kansas City Mark Bradley – Kansas City Dominik Hixon – New York Giants Brad Smith – New York Jets Terrell Owens - Buffalo Mark Clayton – Baltimore Jason Avant – Philadelphia Demetrius Williams – Baltimore Jerheme Urban – Arizona
And if we get Benn it will save the team money they can just cut the "Gi" off of everything and sew a "Be" on it and boom we don't have all of those extra "n's" laying around. lol
Well if they can gamble a high 2nd rounder on a reach of a luxury pick like Pat White......then a 2nd for Boldin is not far fetched. How much better off would be if we had given the Cowboys that pick for Austin, rather than using it on White? I hope the FO takes that into consideration..... Not really a fan of Antonio Bryant (I assume u mean him and not Dez Bryant) but the rest of your plan sounds solid I think.
So this thread was allegedly started about Hartline but immediately turned into another Ginn bashing fest? Awesome.
That point is true. But I think that 2nd spent on White was Ireland's Idea. And I don't think Parcells will let him spend it on a 30 year old injury prone WR looking for a big contract. Yes, I did mean Antonio Bryant. He would be a solid addition to our team.
yup, although I have this weird feeling that Chambers may not be finished with Miami It was Cameron that tradedt him not parcells, he could come back to Miami and be the number 1 again and I think Parcells might like the guy especially the way he's playing woith something to prove lately. plus add in that bizarre kansas city connection we have and CC might return. aqua4ever would be so happy
We may have that Safety already in Clemons; Culver does good things when he gets on the field too. That said, I wouldn't mind a solid Safety with decent coverage skills in the mid-rounds. I would like to see us sign in free agency one premier, no-question-about-it, NUMBER ONE Receiver; one other big Receiver, not top-tier but a large-target upgrade to the smurfs (Bess and Camarillo); one top-tier ILB and another good one; and one pass-catching Tight End. Then in the draft, another ILB or two; a pass-catching TE; a big Running Back; a Nose Tackle project; at least one pass-rushing OLB; a big Receiver; and a project LT.
Well then our FO will be with us watching the playoffs from the couch....I wouldn't try and paint our FO so conservatively tho, they did after all spend the number 44 pick in the draft on a spread QB. And going after second tier FA's and day two draftees is pretty much a waste of time at this point. We've already done that and we STILL don't have the player we needed.
True; after failing so much in pursuit of one position (save Hartline, but even he has some glaring limitations) you either bite the bullet and spend - or risk falling into the futile, Quixotic search like Shula did for that next Matheson/Duhe clone.
Dude, is that what you want it to be? Because I'm pretty sure this thread has been about a lot more than Ted Ginn and it's had some pretty damn good discussion in it. How the threads get outta hand is by guys like yourself jumping in and pushing it in the wrong direction.... And for the record, I'm here having this debate with a couple of guys that i like, I just disagree on this issue. It's not like we're enemies or something stupid like that.........maybe you didn't notice that we've also been joking around and having fun with it? If you don't have anything to actually add to this discussion other than continuing a witch hunt for Ginn bashers, then please, just leave us be.
You are a Ginn basher. Just like the two "fans" who thanked you in .2 seconds of you posting that. Goodnight.
That would be a weird reunion. Henne, the man we acquired from the CC trade, TD pass to CC, the man we traded for Henne, lol.
i think if we draft a WR it may be a 2nd rounder but I suspect it will be 3rd or 4th round. i just cant see us passing on a edge rusher to draft a golden tate or benn or lafell. porter and ayodele have to be replaced. one area we can definitely upgrade in FA with a very good player is Tight End. Bo Scaife, Owen Daniels and tony Scheffler should all be available and we should be able to grab one of those and save ourselves the draft pick. linebacker and wr get dicey however. maybe we can get dansby or morrison or derrick thomas but are they the sure things we need? i think OLB, ILB have to be addressed through the draft for a long term solution and WR probably also but I think we wait until 2011 to address it through the draft. I think we spend another year trying to get Pat Turner and Ted Ginn to develop while picking up a tier 2 FA WR like Antonio Bryant. If Dez Bryant becomes available that is the only playmaker I could see us gettin g at WR
This one got rough for a bit but its calmed down and been pretty good overall. although hartline somehow disappeared from the discussion
profootballfocus ranks 11 of the remaining Dolphin starters within the top 20 at their respective positions. Only three play defense and one of them is 35 years old. A #1 WR is a sexy pickup but is far from a #1 need. IMHO
Adam, how do you feel about Golden Tate? Every time I see him, I want him wearing a Dolphins uniform more and more. He's going to be a very, very good NFL player. If we can draft him and sign Edwards/Bryant to replace Camarillo and Ginn, our passing game should be much, much better. Also, Owen Daniels would be a perfect fit for us.
Why even bother in the mid rounds? We just did that.....and got more complimentary WR's. And don't count Porter out of here so quickly, he'd likely be more expensive to part with then Ginn. We're at the top of the league in sacks and have virtually no play making/ red zone threats at WR.....so I can't see how you can put pass rushwer ahead of WR. And waiting for Ginn to develop is like peeing into a fan.......
i like him actually. i know some people dont but i think he could be good. the receivers i like and the rounds i like them in are the following:The rounds are very conservative and it means players like Tate may slip through but it ensures we get value and dont overpay 1st - Dez Bryant 2nd - Mardy Gillyard/ 3rd - Jacoby Ford/ Danario Alexander/ Eric Decker/ Golden Tate 4th- Demetryus Thomas/ Mike Williams 5th - Jordan Shipley 6th - Chris McGaha/ Titus Young/ Owen Spencer/ Greg Little 7th - Rich Gunnell
because we dont get pressures. for some reason we get sacks but not pressures. its feast or famine apparently. pressures to me are more important than sacks. pressure wrecks passing games. sacks not necessarily. hartline is developing into a decent red zone threat. a big tight end like daniels or scaife or a WR like turner might be more weapons to add to the red zone plus if you see who i have targeted in 3rd and 4th rounds you'll see there is potential for a playmaker.
sean smith is afraid to tackle...its not something you learn with experience...hes a @&%$#, and a pansy.....................................................
