1. New England has to lose against Jacksonville and Houston, if we win out we get the division. 2. Cincinnati has to lose to the Chiefs and the Jets, and Jacksonville has to lose a game. 3. Baltimore has to lose to Pittsburgh, and Jacksonville has to lose a game. 4. Denver has to lose to Kansas City, and Jacksonville has to lose a game. (If Denver loses to Philadelphia it goes to strength of victory which Denver currently leads.) And Miami wins out.
# 3 is most likely and IMO is going to happen. It's just a matter of the Dolphins winning their final 2 games. We've got as good a chance as any to get into the playoffs.
If we win, I don't see how we couldn't go into week 17 with a chance. The NE game helps either way. Either a chance at a wildcard or a chance at the division.
the ship has sailed on winning the division we could still fall in on our ear with the wildcard spot unlikely
I agree. #3 is the most likely path for us right now. Giving all the injuries et al that's surrounded the team this year; going into week 17 with a chance is all you can ask for.
we would have to win both one of which is a game against a team weve never beat the other against the SB champs who are looking to save face then we have to hope for help ill be standing on one foot and touching my nose
All I want for Christmas...is playoff football. This was was a "playoff game," though not really since we're still in it. Now next week is a real playoff game, if we lose we're done.
i think #3 is our best bet but if we win next week than i think we should be still in it for the final week no matter what but it might not be the highest chance
Here is how we get in: That win by Pitt tonight was huge in setting that game up for all the marbles. I admit, I thought it was really bad with the loss to Tenn today. However, it wasn't as bad as I thought based on the other results today. Here is how it shakes out. Right now: 5th seed: Baltimore 8-6 6th seed: Denver 8-6 Jax: 7-7 Miami: 7-7 Jets: 7-7 Pitt: 7-7 Tenn: 7-7 Houston: 7-7 Next weeks schedule is as follows and how it would need to play out: Houston @ Miami = Miami wins Jags @ NE = NE wins B'more @ Pitt = Pitt wins Denver @ Philly = Philly wins Jets @ Indy = Indy wins SD @ Tenn = Tenn probably wins, but is deep in the hole tie breaker wise. If this happens, you will then have B'more and Denver dropping to 8-7. Miami and Pitt would move up to 8-7. Jags, Houston, and Jets fall to 7-8. Based on tiebreakers we go to week 17 with B'more, Denver, Miami, and Pitt all at 8-7 with 2 wild card spots up for grabs. In week 17 Denver has KC at home and B'more is at Oakland. Miami hold the tie breakers over Denver and B'more if all 3 are tied after week 17. Miami would end up the 5th seed and B'more would be the 6th seed. If Pitt beats Miami and are tied with Denver and B'more...B'more is the 5th and Denver is the 6th. If either of them lose, then Pitt would get either seed based on record. Yes, there is a lot of this scenario to play out. However, it really isn't that far of a stretch for this to play out this exact way. Of course...beating Houston and Pitt will be hard as hell, but thankfully both games are at home.
So...when would it come down to strength of schedule?? If the Broncos and Dolphins tied for the 6th seed and ravens won out? Might as well cheer for the Panthers right now just in case. I guess Football and Math have waaaay more in common then anyone thought. And basically the Jags/Pats game is a win-win. Jags win, theres a shot pats could lose in houston. Pats win, puts the phins in better wild card position..assuming we win of course.
In my opinion: 1. Very unlikely. 2. Doubt it. 3. Wouldn't bet on it. 4. Although a possibility, I just realistically do not see it happening. Note: Please Dol-fans don't take it as I don't believe in the Fins. I'm just being realistic and we do not control our own destiny.
Well, you are getting your wish....guess it cant hurt us.....but this NFL...each week, crazy unexpected teams win and crazy unexpected teams lose. Parity I guess.
I just want to see the team do everything they can to keep fighting forward. Anybody that says we don't deserve to be in the playoffs or they want to tank these last games for better draft position is just nuckin futs.
hahaha The poll on NFL.com is which 7-7 team is most likely to make the playoffs. Titans - 54% Dolphins - 24% Jaguars - 15% Jets - 7% Just shows the ignorance of the average fan. Titans are probably the least likely with their poor conference record and having to play San Diego next week.
Hell...this game is more than helping my $$$ fantasy team. Coming into tonights game I needed Carolina's D to really step up tonight and hope that Minn really hates playing outside in the cold. I was up 110.82 to 88.44 I have Jason Campbell left to play and am projected out at 131.01. He has Farve, AP, and Ganther going and is projected out at 141.16. So basically I need Farve and AP to both be below their projected points tonight. Well...that has played out like a charm. I am up 110.82 - 106.24. So far only 7.30 points from Farve and 10.50 for Farve. I should at least get 20 from Campbell tomorrow night and he has a RB going. I like my odds thanks to this game.
Wow...I was a little worried after that 65 yard completion Farve to AP...now down 115.94-110.82. That INT by Farve hopefully ended his night. Damn..that last completion hurt though.
Go back to last season and the 8-8 AFC West champion Chargers won their first round game against the colts. the 9-7 Cardinals nearly won the super bowl. Win out at home Dolphins and you've got a chance for some extra football. When will the NFL Flex in a game for week 17 SNF? This tuesday or next tuesday? Because if it's next tuesday and both the steelers and dolphins win, I see no reason why they wouldn't make that game for the 6th seed the night game [assuming jaguars lose to patriots also]
No excuse not to win the last two games no matter what other teams do. We'll see though. Pittsburgh almost beat Baltimore in Baltimore with their third-string quarterback starting and without anyone else. The Steelers beat a very good Packer team that took a collective **** on the Ravens a few weeks ago. I'd put the chances of a Steeler win as certainly possible especially with the Raven CBs hurt. As for beating Houston. I'm tired of that ****ing team. Put Schaub on his *** and win the damn game. Heck go to a 4-3 if you want and use Wake and Taylor I doubt that team can run even. Pittsburgh will be a tough team to beat but their offensive line isn't playing well. We can beat them at home.
We deserve some severe revenge on the Texans....they have pissed me off more then any other team with their last second victories over us......the Texans always find ways to lose every game against the Colts, but they always find a way to beat us. Put 2 men on Johnson the whole game if you have too but don't let him beat you deep.
It's a similar plan to the one we had against Houston with one caveat. I think you could go into a 4-3 with Cameron Wake coming off of the strong side very often. The amount of passing they did against a pathetic Rams versus rushes is indicative of the Houston Texans. Ryan Moats fortunately isn't Chris Johnson. The great thing about Houston is that even though they have don't have terrible players around Johnson, there's no Welker. Vontae has enough pride to want to shut down Andre as best he can. As for the other side of the ball, the Chad Henne Miami offense seems like a fine plan. No special adjustments needed outside of running the ball straight up into Ryans to tire him out. By the way is Jake Grove ever going to come back? He'd be tremendous against Casey Hampton in week 17.
we win out, balt loses to pitt.....and jax loses to ne....and we're in no? ver possible. lets just beat houston!!!!
Yeah dude, crazy isn't it? Henne is also better at home than on the road, 2 games to go, Dolphins still alive in the playoff hunt. I want JT to have one more shot at the playoffs.
Not being rude, just wondering how any Phins fan could ever t root for a better draft pick instead of the playoffs. Not even remotley? What, you think it's that easy to get to the dance? You watch these guys spill their guts for that one chance, and we have all spent way to many seasons watching other teams play in Jan, to not appreciate the chance to play in them this year. The Wanny Years Vt, we'd make the playoffs, but get waxed in the first round and end up with terrible drafts. Recall that Armando and some other Miami area sportswriter were exchanging hive fives when the Broncos eliminated us from the playoffs.
I feel so sick right now. It's great that Miami still has a glimmer of hope, but that loss really hurts. The ref calling that personal foul in OT. How the hell does that get called????? The refs were so one sided throughout the game. I just can't believe it.
That is what makes football so great Merauder, the highs are really high, the lows are really low, as long as there is not a season full of lows (2007 comes to mind) then you just look forwards to the next game. That is something Baseball, Basketball and Hockey do not offer as they play 80 or more games a season, only in the NFL does each game count that much.
Without the personal foul call, they aren't in position to kick a field goal. Did you notice how our defense didn't give them a yard after Henne's INT?
Yeah....but you know what, I have been through horrible ref calls all football season (Georgia games) and they aren't the real reason we lost. Do they hurt and do they play a role in why we lost? Yes, they do. However, were they the real reason? No. Three turnovers inside the TENN 35 yard line, 2 in the redzone, is why we lost. Giving up the big plays in the passing game, once again, is why we lost. We lost the game by 3 points in OT. We win the game in regulation if we converted just 1...just 1...of those three turnovers inside the TENN 35 into points. The holding calls, no calls on Tenn, personal fouls called, personal fouls not called on Tenn hurt. However, we could have won this game in regulation if we didn't shoot ourselves in the foot time and time again.
#3 is most likely, followed by #1 ... are chances got considerably dimmer after yesterday - but they are still much brighter than any other 7 loss team not named JAX.
