Hey everyone. Back from basic temporarily. Just wanted you guys, in your kindness, to fill me in with the stuff I've missed since I've been gone. I know about Ronnie obviously - and I know his future with the Dolphins has been discussed. Just wondering what you guys all think about the situation. Personally, I think this really puts a huge amount of doubt concerning his return to Miami - at least with a big contract.
I barely know any news on Ginn - except for his big returns against the Jets. I know he's been up and down again.

Heck, there are way too many things I don't know about. I just wanted to get a little bit of news of what's going on with our beloved Phins and with the site.

    Thanks in advance! :knucks:

Well were kicking *** in December! Bess has been lighting it up. Rookies have been playing quite well. Gibril Wilson has also had a strong 2nd half of play in the season.

Yeah, Henne has been the biggest news. He hit 17 completions in a row last week. He still has work to do but it looks like he could be special. Oh ans VD has been show flashes too.

Lost Jason Ferguson and Will Allen for the season. But everyone has been stepping up. Guys like Tony McDaniel, Randy Starks (playing out of his mind), Vontae Davis, Cameron Wake (beast). Offensive line got banged up a little but Grove is back and they are rotating guards a little. Ricky has been playing the best ball of his career (ypc is 4.9. His highest before that was 4.8 in 02) Henne has looked very impressive lately. He is firing the ball with confidence and precision. Hartline is one of the rookies that has impressed me the most, with his skills and passion for the game. Camarillo continues to be clutch. The guy just doesn't drop the ball. Bess is coming on strong like someone mentioned. Still have faith in Ginn. I refuse to bad mouth a member of the Miami Dolphins. Some other people might disagree but I stand by all the players. No matter what. But the big storyline the past few weeks has been the defense. Early in the season they were the worst in the 4th quarter. Now they are basically shutting teams out in the second half. EDIT: I forgot Paul Solai. He has looked very impressive as well. He was the main guy who stuffed the Patriots on 4th and 1.

You haven't heard much about Ginn because he really hasn't had too many big games (I'm being nice). Our D has finally woke up and we have been seeing some outstanding plays by guys coming off the bench and good plays by some rookies and noobs like Cameron Wake. It looks good for us in December and we still have a chance to win a spot for a wild card. It's been an up and down season for all of us. Chad Henne is stepping up in big ways and looks like our search for an elite QB might be over. We have some Rookie CB's that have a geat winning attitude and have stepped up in very big ways. Vontae Davis is going to truly be something speacial in a couple of years. Hartline our rookie WR has had some good plays and can catch. He allways seems fired up. Camarillo is back and is almost automatic when thrown to him. Devon Bess, to me, is probably our shining star here lately. The guy has been on fire.

Know this brother...Your team has earned Respect around the league, their reputation and identity is exactly what we've all dreamed of, were considered a tough physical team that wont quit, and is gonna battle you for 60 minutes, pundits everywhere are coppin our jock, our coach is becoming a star in his own right, Henne has been playing at a level that only the elite ones in history have achieved in their first year, I watched him take the reigns as our offensive leader against New england, and his arm is as advertised.

Its really been fun to listen to media around the country compliment our football team, for the reasons ive always wanted.

this is not a fair observation
all RB's cough up the ball now & then
Ricky has never had a problem
    holding on to the ball
    throughout his illustrious career

take a look @ the fumbles:
the ball stripped, a penetrating Defender making contact in the backfield @ hand-off,
a helmet placed directly on the ball as Williams is tackled
Ricky has seldom fumbled do to nervous/incompetent play

Miami Dolphins are a team of character, true grit & destiny
they will be parenial contenders  thank you Bill Parcells

Jake grove...has played well when he's in there, above our own expectations.

Jake long...better year then last, Premier player

Donald thomas...Has'nt lived up to his legend, but this is only his 4th year playing the game of football.

Andrew Garner...looks like a promising young guard, has earned some start with his play.

Fasano...I dont believe there is a regression with the player, but its obvious we need a true #1

Ted ginn...regressed as a receiver, has improved as a returner......Would love for us to go after Roscoe Parrish and let them compete.

Bess..staedy as she goes, i see him on an ascension plane.

Hartline..Tough, smart, good hands, emotional, fun player.

Cammirrillo....valuable, clutch, great hands, savvy, true dolphin that i see staying on our football team.

Ricky...black demon baby..he's been punishin fools.

VD...Stud football player, blue chip athlete that is very physical, his game has translated and he's gonna be a star.

Seam smith...still finding his game, but is ascending in his play.

Channing Crowder..needs to move over next year in place of Akin...he's topped out as a player, what you see, is what you get...average overall game

    Akin...backup maybe.

Randy Starks..Pro bowl player, has taken his game to another level from last year, where he was our best defender alongside Joey, this year, he's our best player.

Langford and merling...no sophmore slump, which i think is big, staying the course and being consistent is all you wanna do in your 2nd year...Lankford has a vibe about him that he's going to explode on the scene pretty soon, we'll see.

Tony mcdaniels, for what we paid for him, hes a player and a keeper.

Jason and Joey...not what were used to seeing out of either player. but their leading our young team right now, and our doing a great job in that dept imo.

Defense is starting to play as a unit at the right time, they've won the past 2 games in the 4th for us with game changing plays.

Cam wake...put it this way, we got 2 first round picks this year not 1.

our o line has some crazy depth.
our secondary is looking descent. vontae seems like the right pick at least in my eyes. smith has fallen of a little but you know he's a young'n.
bess has turned it on in the past few weeks.
    cam is still mr reliable.
teddy had a case of the dropsies but has made a couple of key catches in the past couple of weeks although his playing time is now limited.
    hartline is the bee knees.
lex hilliard has done ok so far as a second rb.

Actually, Ricky's always had a fumbling problem. Back in 2002 he had something like 8 fumbles.

As great as he is, he's never been the best at ball security. Adrian Peterson has the same problem

Well when your coach decides he's going to run you into the ground and give you 400 carries in a season, it's kind of hard not to fumble. Before the Jax fumbles he was never questioned. He fumbled once last season @KC? And it didn't even look like a fumble. He was down before the ball came out. But now all of a sudden he has a "fumbling problem".

Friend Eop05, I stand by my post.
    Look @ the numbers again.
Williams has always held on to the ball well.
eight fumbles for 400 carries behind a disasterous offensive line?
I don't get it. RB's fumble or are stripped of the ball
as WR's are intercepted or drop an occasional pass

anyone can lose the ball now & then
    if it is problematic,
they do not remain Franchise RB's or WR's
    simple as that...:deadhorse: RickyBashing

Thanks to everyone for the updates. I'm a big RW fan. That's no secret. The guy is a football player - and a damn good one. I hate that RB went down, but I knew we wouldn't miss a beat with Ricky. He's a young 32, IMO.

Looks like we definitely need a true #1 receiver. Cam Wake is as advertised. Gotta love that. Nice to hear about all the young guys stepping it up. That gives me a lot of optimism about the future of our team.

It doesn't matter how the fumbles happen, all that matters is they do seem to happen. And hate to break it to you, he has always been prone to dropping the ball. Just like AP, does it take away how great of a runner he is? No. But he has always had ball control issues. I still like Ricky don't take it the wrong way. But it is the one bad spot in his game. Want some proof? Here:

2009 so far 4 fumbles in 200 carries.
2008 he had 5 fumbles in 160 carries.
2007 he had 1 fumble in 6 carries.
2005 he had 1 fumble in 168 carries, his best season holding onto the rock.
2003 he had 7 fumbles in 392 carries.
2002 he had 7 fumbles in 383 carries.
2001 he had 8 fumbles in 313 carries.
2000 he had 6 fumbles in 248 carries.
1999 he had 6 fumbles in 253 carries.

    http://www.nfl.com/players/rickywilliams/profile?id=WIL271115

Looks prone to fumbles to me. He is still a great player though.

I will just quote Gitrdone's post:

He's always fumbled a lot. Every year he had over 200 carries he's fumbled over 6 times. That's a lot. With the Saints, with the Dolphins. Ricky Williams has ALWAYS had ball security issues.

I love him, I think he's a great running back. So is Adrian Peterson. But both have fumbling issues. The stats don't lie.

I've got a little time. So I'll give this review thing a go. Keep in my that this is just MY take on it. :hi5:

You have missed the most important development in in Dolphins history since the firing of Dave Wannstedt. That is the development of Chad Henne. While I'm still far from annoiting him to Super Bowl winning quarterback, he has proven that he is AT THE VERY LEAST Jay Fiedler. I do not think his TD/INT stats give an accurate picture of what he has accomplished.

Henne had some early trouble with receivers. It seemed as though they would drop everything for at least his first two games. I guess that was a timing issue because it seems to be cleared up. The QB/reveiver crew has been slicing the secondary apart for what seems to be 5 straight games. The passing seems to always be in the right place. As mentioned earlier, the catching was an early problem. Now the short stuff is sticking like glue.

I don't know what the problem is with the deep routes but they are almost always overthrown. Hartline caught a beautiful fade in the past two weeks but other than that it's been a "just missed it" situation. Everyone has been on Ginn (including me) because we just can't seem to hit a deep route but even Ginn has been overthrown. I think an offseason of work will help in this area. I think Henne might just be overly cautious about placing the ball where only his receiver will be able to catch it on the deep ball. It's the only thing that makes sense because he has overthrown everyone. Don't let the deep ball critique mess up the overall judgement. The dude seems to be the real deal. He's hitting everything else.

The most disturbing constant that I have seen is batted/tipped balls. I haven't made too much of it here on the forum. I have not seen others make too much of it neither. But I swear that I see at least three batted balls (at the line of scrimmage) per game.............and every time I see it I think the listed 6'3" is really 6'2" listed when he came out of college. I don't know the actual statistic but I would be willing to bet on at least 5 of his 9 interceptions having some sort of defensive contact at the line of scrimmage. This was a killer in the fourth quarter of the Bills loss. I was taking notice of what appeared to be an abnormal amount of tipped balls before that game. Tipped balls could be any number of things. It could be a credit to our offensive line. The D-line could just be conscious of not getting to the pocket. Or it could just be that I'm taking an abnormal amount of interest in this QB's development.

    More in minute.........

    ........continuing along.

You mention the Ronnie Brown injury. So you know about that. Here is what you may not know. The Lex Hilliard you saw running in the preseason has disappeared. I've been looking for a reason. I haven't seen it on the injury report. But he did spend all of last year on the practice squad. Did he hit the "rookie wall"? Maybe........ All that I know is something is wrong. This dude has lost his wheels. Maybe it's just the difference between the speed of play in the preseason and in-season. He just hasn't shown anything since opportunity knocked at the door with the loss of Cobbs and Brown.

So we picked up this dude Kory Sheets. I haven't seen him on the field. I think he's only been active for one game.

That of course leaves us with Ricky Williams. The first two games after Brown went down (Carolina and Buffalo) I saw what seemed to be an obvious effort to limit Ricky Williams touches. The Bills game is where it became VERY apparent. The Phins went into the half and Ricky was somewhere near 20 touches. The week leading up to the game, Sparano had said something about being aware of the possibility to overuse Williams after losing Ronnie Brown. I believe the subject came up because Ricky had just ran back to back 20+ carry 100+ yard games. Anyhow, it was the Bills game that it became apparent (to me at least) that the staff was counting touches for Ricky Williams. Lex Hilliard was in and out of the game substituting for Williams but the Bills could not stop him in the first half. We controlled the first half. It was like it Williams was running in 2002 all over again. Then in the second half a calamity of errors that includes a Ted Ginn 1st down false start (WTF) and an interception on the next series takes the Ricky Williams factor out of the game.

    http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-highlights/09000d5d814922f7/Florence-picks-off-Henne

Anyhow, if it were not for the atrotious Patriots secondary coverage we would be looking at five straight weeks of 20+ carry, 100+ yard games from Ricky Williams. Yes the dude is a freak but I have two worries about the phins playoff hopes going forward - the health of Ricky Williams and the secondary combination of Bell and Wilson.

Wow! Did you notice that I didn't say I was worried about the QB position.

Probably the most encouraging piece of finformation anyone could pass along is the news of Smith and Davis. And while I'm mentioning them I should pass along the fact that Nathan Jones has been "money" at the nickel.

As the season winds down we get a more accurate picture of the onslaught of offense that we face in the early part of our schedule. I think we all thought the rookie cornerbacks held their own early on but what happened next proved their worth even more. The defensive staff has essentially abandoned any zone coverage that would leave our safeties one on one deep versus an X or Z receiver. It's all been on the Cornerbacks for the most part and the job that they have done has been more than admirable. Both draft picks have proved their worth in this season alone.

Here is the pleasant surprise. There was some debate as to if Smith was better than Davis. I don't think that debate is relevant any longer. Davis has been glue on every receiver he has covered as of late. The highlight was probably the second game versus the Patriots where he was on Randy Moss for the entirety of the game. He got a pick in the endzone on one of those Brady to Moss "chuck it up" specials. He's showing some veteran savvy in his rookie year and I personally think the debate is over. Davis is a number 1 pick and if anyone is paying attention he'll be in the Pro Bowl very soon.

...........and this may be just a personal note but our linebackers suck.

Reggie Torbor was signed in the offseason. He was suppose to push Ayodele out of a starting position. He didn't get it done. I don't know why. But this is what I know:

Our linebackers (Ayodele and Crowder) strength is that the flow and fill where they are suppose to (for the most part) in the run game. They can't cover Jack Squat. Their strength is the run game and it's why they kept their jobs.

The funny thing is that when Crowder went down to injury for a couple games, I saw no difference when Torbor was in the game for him. Though I don't have the luxury of watching film. But this past week I saw something that Ayodele and Crowder cannot do. I saw it from Reggie Torbor.

Watch him. Watch him show one thing (coverage) and do another. It's been the one thing missing from our crack head linebacking corp all year. It's smart football. If you watch this video a couple of times you will notice Crowder looking over at Torbor. It's almost like he wants to say out loud, "Hey Torbor, you are suppose to be on a blitz. Get up on the line and show them what you are doing."

How do you know which half I was talking about?
OK, you're right, I shouldn't bash Ginn in every thread.
Afterall, he doesn't drop every ball.

Do you post on anything else other than hating on Ginn? Just wondering.

Probably about as much as you do defending him.

So would you NOW agree that Ricky Williams has a fumbling problem?

Because he fumbled one time today? No. But if you want to blame Ricky for this loss go ahead. Have fun with that.

How about the stats that he has fumbled over 6 times every season he's had over 200 carries? The stats were posted twice in this thread, but you failed to regard or respond to those facts.

Face it. You had your facts and observations wrong. Ricky is a good running back who has always had ball security issues. You can keep denying it and telling yourself that he doesn't have fumbling problems, but you'd be wrong.

I never put the loss on Ricky, but he sure didn't help us try to win today. That fumble cost us at least 3 points, that may or may not have helped us win this game
