So did Domenick Hixon, a Wr who is on my Fa radar, he is sort of lost in the shuffle in NY, but he could be a nice pickup, Kick Returner, decent speed and hands.
I was thinking the same a few weeks ago. He's not a bad player at all but I don't think he's a guy you can build your pass offense around either. He's a nice two or three option IMO.
This year's Fa pool will be very very shallow, he might be one of the better options out there but you are right, they would have to see something in him to make him the #1 Wr. And if we are going to move Teddy Ginn, we will need another KR.
Hixon I dont think anyone will see as a #1 - but he can return both kicks and punts, which would make him valuable. If we bring him in, I still think we need to go after a #1 type in the draft early, same with Malcolm Floyd who was mentioned in another thread. Ideally we can come out with Antonio Bryant, or possibly Marshall/Jackson if they hit the market. That would allow us to try a bigger guy like LaFell or Benn, or a smaller faster guy like Tate or Gilyard.
You're probably not going to like this: great athletic specimen that IMO doesn't translate that onto the field. I think he's vastly overrated, mechanical in his movement he doesn't get low enough to get under good tackles and doesn't seem to possess a quality secondary move when he's dominated. He doesn't seem capable of setting a tackle up with say three hard outside rushes, then a 4th where he starts hard outside and then jumps back in between tackle and guard. Watch Jason Pierre Paul do that. Despite his vast inexperience in comparison to Kindle, he does a much better job of this. In the run game he tends to play high and get washed out on the perimeter. He doesn't set the edge with any great conviction and whilst his recognition is good, I tend to see him make plays because of the mistakes of others rather than of standout play of his own. Of course, he DOES make plays off his own back, but he seems to be Johnny On The Spot more often than perhaps he should. I put him firmly in the Ricky Sapp category of overrated underachievers who do less with more.
To be fair, I didn't like Orakpo either, although he's a lot better than Kindle, but Orakpo had an NFL body coming out and that's been a huge bonus. Orakpo can dominate at the point which Kindle can't.
What strikes me with Kindle is that he's clearly going to look great and run well in Indianapolis. He's athletic in space but what you won't see in Indy is his inability to take on and beat a tackle at the edge or a pulling guard or a tight end. I'm breaking down Rolando McClain and Brandon Spikes for a piece here and what consistently strikes me about Spikes is that he does a terrific job of getting off blocks. Kindle can't. I also don't want to see him too much in coverage because he doesn't have a good feel for what he's doing. Watch a Mark Herzlich in coverage and he looks like a safety. He knows where he has to go in a zone, he knows how to back pedal in man, he understands and recognises routes quickly and can break on the ball. I don't see that in Kindle's game at all. I see a guy dropping back because that's his assignment but I don't see him comfortable with said assignment. And I touched upon it earlier in my reply to Sect, but his inconsistency on the field is matched of course by his inconsistency off it; trouble with the police is going to keep him off Miami's board. He's not that tight end buster that we need and he's not clean off the field.
Honestly? The only thing that is was "wrong" with Orakpo was people overthought how he would play in the NFL, the main criticism was "too stiff in coverage and lacked instincts for the NFL" Kindle's workouts will probably be really good, but there is a bit of Looks like Tarzan, Plays like Jane about him, he underachieved at Texas.
I think with regards Orakpo, I personally don't think I overthought it, although I agree that dropping in coverage was an issue for me, but I also saw him pretty much stoned by some decent tackles and especially by Phil Loadholt. To be fair to both though, Loadholt has had an excellent season at RT for Minnesota and Orakpo's 4 sacks on Sunday takes him to 11, so.......
Kindle has less brains and instincts than one of my farts. (At least they know which direction to go: out....and up) The guy needs a "pop-up" picture book on him at all times to help him understand a play. He's better off using his athletic ability to become a professional rodeo clown.
I was aprehensive toward Orakpo, too. Besides the stiffness/coverage issues, I wasn't sure if he was a meathead relying on his strength and physical gifts, or if he really did have football pouring through his veins as well as the committment/dedication to excel in the NFL. That's the one part that we're at a serious disadvantage-- we don't get to see the interviews or have the opportunity to peer into a player's head..... which really sucks for me since "mental make-up" ranks high on my check list. Thanks.... I haven't got around to watching much Big 12 this year..and I remembered him having a big year last year, along with his body type similarity with Joey Porter and position of course... I then started reading some mocks and they have him in the 1st round and wondered if he would be a good candidate for our pick to replace Porter. I guess not. LOL. Not sure what I want yet...(Yeah..I am not sure I want a WR in the 1st round)...but I am leaning heavily on a NT, ILB, and then TE...in exactly that order.
I'm just not sure that Kindle didn't hugely benefit from Orakpo on the other side last year. I actually think Roddrick Muckleroy is a better player than Kindle.
Yeah, that one was for you Boomer. Texas should be allowed to play with 12 men on defense vs Bama just so Kindle can have someone to stop and ask for directions. I could see Kiper slipping up and saying something like that during a heated debate with McShay..... you know, when he clearly becomes irritated about McGay's ignorance regarding a certain player.... and Mel's head starts bobbin, his lips purse up, and the 1000 yard stare kicks in. I would crap myself and show it to the world if Mel said this. The only thing more gratifying would be to hear those 5 precious words first: the New York Jets select...... Side note: why do we have to be so PC when analyzing a player. If it has to be mentioned 10 different ways that a player has bad instincts and awarenes, can't diagnose, and has poor game smarts, can't we sum it up into 1 simple statement? Geees! LOL
You know how they say "he's a lunch pail type player". Well Kindle is a lunch box type player...... and his has Rerun from 'What's Happening' on it...... or maybe it was Fat Albert. I confuse his with Aaron Maybin's.
I'm still cracking up. I could just see it now. Mel Kiper gets on about Sergio Kindle. "My farts have more brains and instincts than Sergio Kindle. They smell better, too. He might have a future as a rodeo clown, but not as an NFL player. Back to you, Chris."
Berman's so dumb he'd just take that as fact. He'd have made three rodeo gags and two fart jokes before someone told him it was all bollocks.
Chris would be like "It's not confirmed folks but I believe Jared Allen is his favorite player." And then during the highlights he throws in a "Look at Sergio go! He could.....go.....all....the.....wayyyy!.... into the barrel. A Longhorn clown being speared by a bull would be amusingly ironic.... like seeing Joey Porter getting snout butted in the gut by a dolphin off South Beach. LOL. it's not every day we get to see a player harassed by his team's natural mascot. Posted via Mobile Device
Except for the stupid Patriots. Not sure an American Flag falling on Brady would be too funny...... unless it was maybe on fire. Would that still be considered "unpatriotic"...... or labeled under the "doing good service for our country". At in a quandry for that one..... similarly to when I was in college and wasn't sure if I should bring the fat girl home bc my roommates might still be up. Buttttt, ya risk it anyways and sneak her (the mo-ped) out the window in the morning. Posted via Mobile Device
