It's possible but I honestly don't see it happening. I don't think they are going to determine the success or failure of Chad Henne in the remaining weeks. I would imagine that they are pleased with his performances thus far, sans one or two, because he hasn't had a lot to work with especially in the recent weeks with Ronnie Brown, the main weapon, going down with a significant injury.
Oh I agree. Ive been very impressed with Henne in fact with the right OC and some playmakers at WR or TE he could be a guy that leads this team to a superbowl in the future. I know he wont fall flat but if there was that chance if he did I wonder which QB they would look at? I say Mallet because he has rocket arm of course he has a long way to go before he could start in the NFL I don't think he could be like Flacco right away. If a team took him high and plugged him in right away I can't help but think Andrew Walter
Austen Lane from Murray State. Wow. Nice find. Has anybody actually seen a Murray State game? Lane could be a player to watch at the Senior Bowl if he gets invited. Gronkowski is definitely an option if he declares. FWIW Saunders has said he's going to return for his senior year.
I have only seen bits of lane but just reading and watching highlights which I know can be deceptive he reminds me a lot of Jason Taylor when Taylor first came in to the NFL. He's tall and wiry but has an explosive first step and finds ways to get to the qb. Probably needs to get stronger in the upper body but he's uses his hands well and seems to play with good leverage much of the time. Really not much bad to say about him other then the level of competition he played against. One of my favorite OLB prospects along with Hughes and possibly Norwood depending whether you feel he's an inside or outside backer.
I just don't see that as an option on any level unless the switch White to WR which they're not going to do because it would be an admission of guilt that tbey drafted him as a QB and they couldn't turn him into a pro passer. Tyler Thigpen is well thought of and I'll be surprised if there's not a few plays in the playbook for him down the stretch. But Henne is the guy. Generally I've seen nothing that makes me think otherwise.
I was going by the recent trends of past years throwing a 2nd rounder on a QB. I can't believe I thought Pat White would be a good selection.
Well, to be fair to White, his NFL career is but 11 games old. I think the tightness of games, etc., it's meant that we haven't been able to use him as much. But of course the main reason we haven't seen him is because of the injury to Pennington. Because playing White too much now would hinder the development of Henne. If Penny was still starting, I think we'd have seen a great deal more from Pat White.
I question the move because he seems to be drafted for the WC. I know its early but he doesn't have game breaking speed to be that kind of player. I overlooked that before the draft. Just not a fan of using a back up player to take out the would be franchise QB.
I tell you what there have been some games where I didn't like Ryan Mallett that much but then there have been some games where he was playing just unbelievable football from that position. He will stand strong and make accurate downfield throws while about to be pulverized by a DL, then he'll pop back up and do it again.
I agree, Henne is the man. He's performed admirably with lousy WRs and, at times, so so pass protection. I don't see QB as a consideration this draft unless they want to take a flyer late on someone that they really like. His arm speaks for itself and I like his game management- he's had some boners like the SD int for TD and the 4th quarter int flury against the Bills last week. But if I recall correctly at least 2 pics can be chalked up to being harrassed in the pocket and a DL tipping and intercepting the ball. It wasn't a pretty sight, but I can live with it. Pat White- I'm a little troubled by his size, but I'm choosing to defer judgement until next year. I don't see him converting to WR- we have enough trouble getting guys like Pat Turner and Ted Ginn making the transition from college WR to pro WR- it strikes me as easier said than done to get White to transition from college QB to pro WR. White, imo, needs and deserves a little more time before passing judgement. And I do like Tyler Thigpen from what I saw of him playing for KC. I think that this might be a good draft for some serious double dipping- WR, NT, LB. I could easily see two NTs and two WRs drafted- guys like Hartline, Turner and Camarillo are going to have to duke it out and step up to the plate if they want a roster spot. It's going to be interesting to see how DTs Dan Williams and Terrence Cody find themselves rated in the draft when all is said and done- the same could be said for the WRs. I think that you mentioned Jonathan Dwyer as a potential 1st rd pick- heck of a player, but I'm guessing that we stick with Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams- I'm still a staunch supporter of RW. He might be 32, but we have him for at least one more year and he's a well maintained, low mileage running back at this point. For my money he's deserving of Pro Bowl consideration. Dude can flat out run the rock. I'd only be looking at RB in the mid to late rounds this year for a guy who slipped- I really liked the Clemson RB last year, I think that his name is James Davis. Heck of a back, he fell too far. Maybe we could take a Tate or Blount if they fall to a point where they present excellent value a la Davis last year.
Check out UAB's QB Joe Webb. He wears #5. At 6-4 and 220 pounds he is considerably bigger than Pat White. Projected to go in the 6th or 7th round. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXWf5PSP-kQ"]YouTube- 2008 UAB Football Highlights[/ame] I'm not saying he's better than Pat White or anything like that. However he is an interesting prospect. Especially for the Dolphins. I could see that happening. I totally agree.
I'd like to use our 4th on Blount to be honest.... I like the kid a lot now and think he'll be a great locker room guy/ eventual leader for whomever drafts him. Posted via Mobile Device
If there was actually any footage of Joe Webb throwing a football, I missed it. We have Henne, White and Thigpen in the fold. I don't see us spending a draft pick on a QB this year. I'd rather take a flier on another WR, NT or ILB.
He doesn't throw it often but when he does he throws it well. I know he only has 271 attempts and 2299 yards but he ranks 10th in the nation in yards per attempt and his QB rating of 150.71 is 12th in the nation. Plus he's money in the redzone. Webb has thrown 21 touchdowns. Compare that to Colt McCoy who has twice as many completions and 27 touchdowns. Webb also has 11 rushing touchdowns bringing his total to 32. Not to mention Webb has got 1424 rushing yards. That's more than Jonathan Dwyer, C.J. Spiller, Anthony Dixon, Montario Hardesty, Evan Royster, Noel Devine, and Ben Tate just to name a few. Granted the level of competition is not the same but we're talking about a 6th round draft pick here. Webb is a developmental project for sure but he's got real potential. He could give Pat White a run for his money. Remember when Bill Walsh brought in Steve Young even though he already had Joe Montana? Webb could push White to be better and if White doesn't respond then you've upgraded the position with Webb. Either way its a win-win. Just an idea. BTW with 5 picks in the 6th and 7th rounds this year we could draft Webb and still take a flyer on another WR, NT or ILB.
James sucks! He can't juke a kicker in the open field?! Hang em up buddy! Thoughts on Arenas as a nickle cb for us? Upgrade or no? Posted via Mobile Device
Count me in as well. Say what you want about Saban, but the man can coach defense. Rolando McClain please.
Riley Cooper could end up sneaking into the 2nd round IMO. It'd be funny seeing us with 2 white starting WRs. Posted via Mobile Device
FWIW this guy hooshoops at the other board, talk to him a little he's good people, he ran into Jeff Ireland at Champions at the Mariott the Dolphins were staying at after the Panthers game. Says he asked him about receivers in the draft and Irelands comment about Golden Tate echoed my concern, Ireland said "He doesn't always catch the ball". Also asked Jeff about Spikes vs McClain. Said he likes Spikes, said he's physical. Posted via Mobile Device
The Tate answer sounds like subterfuge to me. We're drafting Golden. Mark it down. McClain's not physical? LOL. Posted via Mobile Device
I actually don't even know how to catch the ball with my body. LOL. Ever since I was little I've always caught passes out in front with my hands no matter where the pass is. It baffles me that some of these elite athletes still have trouble with this. Posted via Mobile Device
Golden uses his body a lot to shield defenders from the ball and make sure they don't have a good look at the ball to knock it away. My only concern with him, aside from the size, is that if you really watch him a lot, a fair amount of balls just go uncaught. I was saying that to hooshoops and that's why he brought up the conversation with Ireland, Ireland said the same thing. Rolondo McClain's physical, I think Brandon Spikes is more versatile. But last night I did see something that impressed me in Rolondo McClain and that was sideline to sideline speed tracking down those outside runs with Florida's super fast backs.
I was pretty impressed by that as well. But I think back to the 2008 SEC Title Game and remembe Brandon Spikes lining up on the edge and absolutely abusing Andre Smith several times as a pass-rusher. He got a great rush early in the game yesterday on a 3rd down and McElroy made a great throw around him. It'd be hard to be dissapointed about not getting one or the other between Spikes and Brown.
If we had the #1 pick in the draft Rolando McClain would be the player I would pick. He is as sure anything as anyone along with Suh. He's quick, agile, smart, hostile and the leader of the best defense (IMO) in the country....that's the parcells profile.
In a 3-4 defense that kind of versatility would be excellent to keep an offensive line guessing where the rush was coming from. At any given point when you can flip your ILB Brandon Spikes over to the outside and rush him against a tackle, and then flip a guy like Joey Porter or Jason Taylor to all of the sudden rushing the inside and using their tremendous experience and instincts to find the open lane? That's the stuff good pass rushes are made of. I think it would be awesome to have McClain and Spikes next to each other, as their styles would probably complement real well.
Well our ability to chase and tackle and rush the passer from the interior would likely improve. As well as our ability to cover. A.J. Edds is one hell of a player as well. Really good, solid player who doesn't get as much due as he should. If he were playing for Florida, he's be a first rounder from the exposure alone.
I'm still torn between McClain and Derrick Morgan. It's odd bc it's probably the first time I've liked the exact same couple of players at the end of the season as I did going into it. Any of you guys experience this phenominon yet? LOL.
I could handle Jermaine Gresham, Brandon Lang, A.J. Edds in successive order. Sorry, but thats some talent infusion.
Definitely. If Lang had the grades, he would have been playing at Georgia. He signed with them and then didn't have the SAT score to get in. Since then, he's really matured and he's got his responsibilities in order.
that would be so amazing i dunno what id even do with myself anyone else like keaton kristic in the later rounds??? or am i just being a homer
I still say this regime gets us a tight end of serious caliber before a WR. Just a hunch, and I am likely wrong. But, in reality, how often has Henne thrown at the tight end this season. Quite a bit. If we have a good tight end that makes Fasano our second best option there then we do have the ability to control the middle of the field. I know everyone wants a wide out, but I think we have a better chance to fill out the tight end position, where is much more talent early than in years past and over this years group of WR's. The we again take a mid round flier on a WR as we help improve the offense.
