I've been having some issues with Tivo since last Wednesday and I figured I'd ask here to see if anyone's ever had the same issue. Basically it seems like every other time I try to record a from either my season pass or a random show when I'm not home, the Tivo never switches channels automatically and I'm stuck with a recording for whatever channel I last had the TV on.

    For example:

On Wednesday I tried to record South Park but instead was stuck with an HBO movie (the last channel I had on) from 10:00 to 10:30pm.

On Thursday I successfully taped the Office.

On Sunday I tried to record Curb but instead got a CIS show on CBS.

Early this morning I successfully recorded Curb on an HBO West feed.

So basically every other time it's screwing up on me. This just started happening to me and I've had Tivo for almost a full year now and never had any problems with it and don't understand why it's not changing the channels automatically for me. Any tips or advice?

    Thanks.

    a couple of questions:

    * is this an actual TiVo unit, or a DVR from your cable company or direct tv? If it is an actual TiVo unit, how is it connected to the actual cable box to change channels? if you have an IR-blaster, sometimes those can go bad or become mis-aligned and thus may not change channels properly.

    * priority list - check your priority list. sometimes programs you request to record are superceded by other programs that are on a season pass that hold a higher priority.

    * recordings - is it recording the current channel the cable box is on, but the tivo thinks it's the requested program? if so, then you KNOW what the problem is - that the tivo isn't managing to change channels correctly, which would be either your IR blaster or the serial cable you use to plug the tivo in to the cable box.

i think i can help but need more information. ultimately i think it's the first issue - with how the tivo is connected to your actual cable box.

It's an actual Tivo box. It's connected by regular cable wires.

It has nothing to do with priority list and it records the current channel the cable box is on but the tivo thinks it's the requested program.

I actually unplugged the whole tivo unit on Monday and reconnected all the wires and so far it's been working normally now, so maybe that was it.

well that is most certainly odd. if it's doing what you're saying it's doing, the problem lies with the connection from the tivo to the cable box, as evidenced by it recording but not changing the channel.

    glad you got it sorted.

in other news i had scheduled my directTV DVR to record a program the other day and it didn't record - no conflicts or anything. unfortunately you can't go back in the guide to see why not - and therein lies a thing i think they should add to the boxes - be able to scroll BACK through the guide, through programming that has already happened. that way i could see if it had been un-scheduled to record, or if there was a conflict i didn't see.

it is irritating though, i feel your frustrations.

Yeah it was weird. Maybe it was just a glitch in the system and by unplugging it, it reset itself or something.
