Just looking at the stats this morning and found that our offense has scored more points than 1-NY Jets...4-5 2-Buffalo...3-6 3-Cincinnati...7-2 4-Pittsburgh...6-3 5-Baltimore...4-4 6-Cleveland...1-7 7-Jacksonville...5-4 8-Houston...5-4 9-Tennessee...3-6 10-Denver...6-3 11-Kansas City...2-7 12-Oakland...2-7 13-Washington...3-6 14-Chicago...4-5 15-Detriot...1-8 16-Carolina...4-5 17-Tampa...1-8 18-San Francisco...4-5 19-Seattle...3-6 20-ST Louis..1-8 I was surprised that our offense with our problems was better in points scored than 20 other NFL teams but what blew my mind was the next part Arizona at 6-3 have scored an average of 1.2 points per game more than we have...1.2 points Atlanta at 5-4 have scored an average of 1/3 of 1 point per game more than we have...1/3 of 1 point Green Bay 5-4 have scored an average of 1.5 points per game more than we have...1.5 points NY Giants 5-4 have scored an average of 1.5 points per game more than we have...1.5 points Philadelphia 5-4 have scored an average of 2.4 points per game more than we have...2.4 points Dallas 6-3 have scored an average of 2/3 of 1 point per game more than we have...2/3 of 1 point San Diego 6-3 have scored an average of 2.1 points per game more than we have...2.1 points Indianapolis 9-0 have scored an average of 3.7 points per game more than we have ...3.7 points New England 6-3 have scored an average of 4.5 points per game more than we have...4.5 points Minnesota and New Orleans are both in a different stratosphere than the rest of the NFL in points scored I think we can all agree this offense has had it's problems this year but with a #1 wide receiver this season who could have put up a modest 5 tds would have taken us to #3 in points scored over ALL TEAMS PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED... A rookie QB and one of the worst wide receiver groups in the NFL and we are THAT CLOSE TO BEING TOP 3 IN POINTS SCORED....AMAZING NOW FOR THE BAD AND UGLY We as a team are 28th in the NFL in points allowed ONLY Tennessee 3-6 Detriot 1-8 Tampa 1-8 St Louis 1-8 Have allowed more points than we have The offense doesn't seem to be that far off with points scored to be dominant with a few playmakers but HARD decisions will have to be made in the offseason regarding our defense...Players that have been recently signed or resigned just might not be good enough in ability for this team to move forward. Our front office has decisions to make regarding players and coaches who have been underachieving...admit the mistakes and replace or demote the underachievers.
Wow.... As inept as we seem on offense... If our Defense didnt fold against NO, the Colts, the Pats... We would be in first place in the AFC East. Im beginning to think our coaches need to answer the call and figure out why we have the worst 4th qtr defense in the league.
Well, the D is just a mystery to me, we have proven veterans at most positions and yet we cannot close out games.
Good post. IMO the problem on D has been more play calling then talent. I don't believe the coaches have been creative enough designing schemes to get pressure on the QB. That is where we have most of our defensive veterans. It should have been the strength of this defense. We knew that our secondary would be young and getting pressure was the key to protecting them. Early on we were very vanilla. Over the last few games we have done a much better job of getting pressure in the first half, but that pressure disappeared when the opponent's offense adjusted and we didn't. It seemed like our defense was relying on those rushers to beat one on ones and didn't use any schemes to help them. Now I agree that sometimes your players just have to beat the guy in front of them and they haven't done that enough. But I also think that the the coaches have to be able to adapt. We can't continue to lose the half time adjustment battle and expect to be consistently successful. So while I think the defensive players deserve part of the blame I do think the talent is there and that if it was just better utilized our results would improve drastically. On offense, I think our problem is more talent based. We simply need a couple of big targets and more players able to get some chunk yardage. I would love to see a good, big WR and a TE that can threaten the seam. I think that alone would take our offense to the next level. Ideally, those players would also be the guys that add to our ability to get some yardage in chunks. I also think that still need some more offensive speed. Ginn clearly has a positive effect on our offense but that effect would be so much greater if he could go back to catching the ball with the consistency he did last year. Of course last year he had CP throwing him the ball and CP throws one of the easiest balls to catch in the league. Maybe Ginn can adjust to that or maybe he can't. If he can then I think he could be adequate against the other team's #2 and #3 CBs. If he can't then we need another speed guy (a CJ Spiller type) that keeps the D back a step.
