I would be pretty happy with that even though I think we have more pressing needs. Kenny Phillips is going to prove a lot of people wrong and be a darn good safety in the NFL.
Depends on who else is on the board. I say no as of now. I'd rather snag Terrell Johnson or Josh barrett later in the draft to man our SS spot.
I would likely pass on him, we have much more pressing needs. I would take a OT, OG, TE, or CB first. Kenny projects at Safety and we need a CB, not another Safety.
It would be mildly surprising if we took K. Phillips at #32, I think that would be a reach, but we do need a Safety, and athletic safety.
I do not think it matters who the first pick is, we will not go after a safety early on. The O-line is where i would look at #32 (unless we grab Jake Long #1- which i highly doubt)
We might have more pressing needs but drafting for needs is like playing to lose, always try to draft for the best valuable athlete especially when you get past the 1st round. IF Kenny Phillips is the best player out there, we should take him, it's not like we have any studs at safety to play it so safe.
Aqua if Branden Albert slips to us I will go absolutely freakin' nuts. The guy is an absolute mauler. Watch him pull from the guard position and absolutely destroy everyone in his path. Best pulling guard I have seen in some time. They predict he could also make the transition to LT too. I love this player. James Hardy is another guy I would love to have. His only knock to me is his 2006 arrest. Teams including us may shy away for this reason. Big time receiver! Dan Connor is a guy who intrigues ma and we know we need to upgrade the defense. I think the things Sparano said yesterday were not so much a smokescreen for the #1 pick but for the #32. Should be interesting.
I think they have Brandon Alberts going in the top 10 or 20. I think they also have Dan Connor going to the Giants but he has a good chance to slipping to us. But the rest I agree with
Reading your post it just occurred to me I haven't seen to many OL really ever slip bigtime like we see other players at different positions. And I have been following the draft since the early '80s I don't recall it happen it at all, even so I'm sure it has.
With Allen, Bell, Crocker, and Davies, I don't think safety is a large enough need to warrant the pick. We could obviously use an upgrade there, but there are positions where we literally have nobody at the moment (RT, LG, WR2). I would even say that ILB is a much greater need with Crowder and Torbor not making anyone tremble too much. I think Josh Barrett could be special in the 3rd or 4th round, but my guess is we grab a guy late who can also play great special teams.
Phillips would be a help to this team, no doubt, but I think that IF we take Chris Long #1, OL would be #32...However, that is a prime spot to grab someone who was rated in the first... It's also a prime trade down spot and that would fit right into Tunalands MO in the draft, especially this draft...their need for more quality players would make that spot very easily tradable....
