spree killer, also known as a rampage killer, is someone who embarks on a murderous assault on his or her victims (two or more) in a short time in multiple locations. The U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics defines a spree killing as "killings at two or more locations with almost no time break between murders."[1] According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) the general definition of spree murder is two or more murders committed by an offender or offenders, without a cooling-off period; the lack of a cooling-off period marking the difference between a spree murder and a serial murder. A killing spree has nothing to do with being crazy.
where does it say that it has nothing to do with being crazy? you think you can be sane and just decide to kill co workers, people you've had relationships with, one after another? edit:do you think the va tech guy was crazy?
Sad indeed. It's ashame that this will be turned into a racial/religious issue with him being Muslim. He was a Major, and from Virginia. He obviously loved his country, but has psychological problems. I agree with Lucky, crazy is crazy. A spree killer, which is what this guy is, is completely different from a Serial killer.
The guy is US-born and raised. No excuses of having been brought up in a foreign culture where life is cheap, one that celebrates killing innocents for "a cause." Just goes to show that extreme religious fundamentalism - no matter its origin - is a harmful and pervasive corrupter of the human mind and spirit. This guy was a devout worshiper, a solid citizen. Then, as soon as he accepted the twisted teachings that bend Islam to suit an agenda, he went berserk.
im not saying he shouldn't go to prison or even be executed dude, I'm just saying he's crazy. you are trying to take this elsewhere, not me.
Why? We're discussing the possible motivations of a guy who killed 12 people and wounded 32 others - not politics.
To be clear, extreme fundamentalism is a corruption of a religion's teachings. For example: Islam is as peace-loving and decent a belief system as any other, but when it is twisted to fit the agendas of men who harbor anger, or crave revenge, or hate women on some level, or hate Americans - then it becomes something dangerous. We even experience it here, with extreme fundamentalists shooting abortion Doctors and blowing up women's clinics. In the hands of people like these, religion becomes just another weapon in their arsenal.

So he premiditaded killing those he was sworn by oath to help?!?! I am thinking setting him in a bathtub waist deep in pigs blood with one hand hancuffed to the bottom. Then put a sharp knife where he would really have to struggle to get it.............. Sorry, that is really macbre, but this phenatical POS is deserved of some serious med-evil treatment.
I can understand not wanting to go aand fight against Muslims, and wanting out of the Army. Go AWOL or something, but don't mow down 40 unsuspecting victims.
Of course I agree with you, but why in an all-volunteer Army are we so strict about not letting someone resign?
Because you sign a contract, you are expected to honor it. A loan company dosn't let you out of a contract just because you don't want to pay for your house or you car anymore.
its like any other business , you sign a contract, they train you, they want their moneys worth........ doesn't really mean he wouldn't have gone crazy even if they let him out.
Officer's heroic act ended rampage http://cosmos.bcst.yahoo.com/up/player/popup/?rn=3906861&cl=16504017&ch=4226713&src=news Civilian Officer Kimberly Munley approached Hasan without backup, shot him 4 times and took him down despite being shot herself.
I understand he signed a contract. But this isn't a home or business loan we're talking about. This gentleman was obviously distraught and appeared to show signs of psychological problems (according to reports).
Yeah, I just read that as well Joe. Its so ironic to me that a civilian cop had to come in and take care of business. She is indeed a true Hero. Hope she gets some seriously prestiges award of some kind.
Not saying it was. But if someone wants out of the Army, and starts spewing radical remarks (which they supposedly knew about) then it leads me to believe a warning was ignored. The first question the Army needs to ask is, "Could this have been prevented?" Early signs say it possibly could have.
Who knows how many more would have been killed or injured had she not taken a bullet to stop him right then?
well warning signs are always a lot clearer after the fact. its easy now to say they should have discharged him. hindsight is always 20/20. what if next time someone does this just to get out of the army? it depends on what was said when they asked him about the postings, what came out of it, etc.
So what if they did? Isn't letting people out, less of a loss then then something like this shooting?
again assuming he wouldn't have done it anyways, next time he gets un happy? not to mention what happens when the army starts losing tons of money. I don't know if you should let someone out because they show they do not like their current situation, but I wouldn't be to quick to assume it would avoid everything that happened.
