Supposedly, upon learning that Mickey and Jimbo got in a fight Bowden drove straight down to the magic kingdom to make sure everything was alright. :shifty:

I wonder if Mickey feels stepped over with Jimbo getting the eventual head coaching job, or if he just doesn't want it. He's been there since 1984.

My Buddy who is a big Seminole says the Mickey wanted to retire last season. However, did not bc Bobby begged him to stay. Either way Jimbo supposedly does not like him and wants to bring in someone new.

I wouldn't be surprised if he brings in a whole new regime...and I wont be mad about it either.

as far as im concerned Mickey is the most overrated coach in college football today. we year after year recruit elite athletes on defense and while our defense is good, its generally not great, and specially in pressure situations we have more often then not blown it as of late.

I'd say Greg Reid is a pretty damn good freshman cornerback and some view Patrick Robinson as the best and top NFL prospect at cornerback in the nation. I think your secondary is still young; we'll see how they round out but I think they are much like UM's secondary; either young or undisciplined.

From everything that I know about Christian Jones here, locally, he says do not count out Miami. He went down and visited with the coaches as well as viewed the facility. He says he really likes Randy Shannon and he's been impressed with the team. Last I heard, he was undecided on FSU because of the impression he got from UM -- this was prior to Bowden's drama.

In my own personal opinion, we are going to see a lot of the recruits FSU would usually get heading to Miami, USF, and some maybe even to Florida.

This entire meltdown along with Miami having a strong year is going to change the face of recruiting a bit in Florida. I could see FSU falling off the map and being replaced by USF as one of the big three. That is of course unless FSU can turn things around fast.

I'd like to add that Miami faced the same crisis, and FSU CAN overcome it. Miami was able to do it by hiring Randy Shannon who is a top recruiter (IMO), FSU needs something similar. Whether that is Jimbo or someone else.

I think we'll see recruits shift to different schools but I have a hard time seeing FSU falling off the map. The prestige of the program, even through the current struggle, is outstanding and they are going to reel in some talent. They've got a talented team right now, they are just young and struggling.

I'll say this though, if we - UM - land Christian Jones, I will be happy as hell. This dude I watched personally from the sidelines against my high school, as you remember from my post in the Canes thread. He can play and he's lights out. He's played strong safety and now is playing linebacker at Lake Howell. He's played strong side, weak side, MIKE linebacker, strong safety, fullback and he's been the quarterback of the Wildcat in high school. I watched him drive his team down the field with the Wildcat and score against my school. He's very talented and a great kid.

Not off the map and not forever, but take a step back. Obviously prestige will always get them talented players, but is that enough on it's own? You always hear players deciding between Miami and FSU, you'd have to think they will be leaning towards UM the next few years. Also with Florida dominating college football that takes away from their ability to recruit the state.

Yeah, I know what you meant but I still have a bit of a tough time seeing it. I think there are always players who will get several offers but know that if they go to FSU for example, they are going to get the spotlight shined on them regardless of how good or bad the team is. FSU is FSU -- they're going to get their spotlight games, they are going to be covered by the national media whether it be good or bad. Not to mention, if a recruit shies away from FSU because of their struggle, the next one in line will step in because he now gets the opportunity to win the job at the position outright and have a chance to be an immediate impact player. If many choose to go to UM or UF, they will not get the playing time they want. I just think there's a lot of factors that will come into play for a recruit deciding on whether to attend FSU and I still think the pros outweigh the cons.

No doubt they will always get very good players. There will come a time though if they don't turn it around where they will see a serious dropoff.

They need to at least show they are headed in the right direction IMO a program can only live off its name for so long. A lot of powerhouses drop out of the picture for a period of time. They can't live off the past forever, I guess that is my point. Especially with a lot of other Florida schools slowly emerging as contenders.

If you're picking a school starting is important, so is history, but you want to go where you feel you have a chance to win. If FSU continues to struggle to stay in the top 25 for the next 2,3,4 years we will start to see a dropoff in the talent they are able to recruit. More so depth wise than starters.

True, that's a good point that they have to show they are headed in the right direction and I think they will. I think they are still a team that has potential to be a quality team in the top 25. They just need some discipline on the field and off the field - with their coaches. They need to figure out who is going, who is staying, who is in charge. Bobby's a figurehead right now and I think he's simply there to reel in the recruits. You can't have two guys running the show and that's why they are a bit of a mess right now IMO. I think they will get it turned around soon though. It's a team that's going to reel in recruits, still be able to win because of their raw talent and they just need some discipline on the football field, from both the coaches and players as I noted earlier.

    Just my 2 cents though.

If Christian Jones does not make it to FSU he will be a Florida Gator. Christian is really high on both the Gators and Noles. Hard for me to believe that Shannon can make that much ground up with two huge programs.

How you think Florida winning hurts them getting talent I will never know. Depth will hurt Florida but you could say it will hurt the Canes a heck of a lot more due to there good recruiting class and players being young. Gators have playing time up for grabs next year.

Players who are starting to change there mind and where they are looking

ILB Jeff Luc (Toss between UF and FSU few weeks ago) - Now looks to be slight edge to Florida.

OLB Christian Jones - Just names Florida and FSU Co-Leaders

WR Christian Green - Florida and Georgia pulling ahead

WR Kenny Shaw - Few schools but still very high on FSU

CB Lamarcus Joyner - Ohio State looks to lead now

CB Terrance Mitchell - FSU had some steam but its gone. (No Miami or UF on list anyway)

OL Ed Christian - De commit now very high on Auburn

Couple of other kids said they would take visits but nothing really more than that. Looks like Florida is all over this but the Canes or not. Alex don't under estimate Urban Meyer in recruiting.

I said when Florida wins FSU will lose recruits to them.

Possibly. I'm not going to make a definite statement, as you are doing so, because I have pretty good information on him. He is considering the Gators as you note, but he is also considering the Miami Hurricanes and I won't dismiss that, regardless of how significant or little of news it may be. There's a strong possibility he's a Gator or a Nole but I'm not going to count out any team until national signing day.

Than I read it wrong. sorry.

Well I have great information too. Christian Jones himself said that FSU and UF were his co leaders. Not saying he never considered UM because he is but they are not in the top 2.

Lol, I'm not debating or competing who has the better information here, I am simply passing on what I know. My initial post stated he is considering the University of Miami and that he was impressed by them -- that's it. Then I stated that I would not count out any one team because anything can change. Whether Jones ends up at UM or not is not an issue for me. If he did end up there, I would be happy because I saw the guy play and I know what he can do (and by that I mean I've seen him play - usually I don't get to see a top UM recruit play - so I hope it doesn't come off as cocky and the wrong way). If he doesn't, oh well. It's not a big issue, in my eyes.

Anyone who is not impressed with Miami, FSU, Florida is nuts. Going to either of them would be an honor and I agree its never over, but I was making a prediction saying what I did.

I totally agree! Jones has said he wants to play for a winning team. His high school team was win less last year and currently 1-4. Luc is worried about the depth and playing time. I think we have a good shot at both and great shot at least one.

USF will have to be consistently good for awhile before they are considered in the elite class of the big three. Beating Cinn. would have been a nice start. The Big East is a very winnable conference for them, IMO, they need to win it to be taken serious. They have the talent, that Pierre Paul is a beast. I do think the whole media frenzy and bad press Bowden and Jimbo are getting is hurting FSU's image and recruiting will be influenced for awhile. I think its time for Bobby to pass the torch, and I think he knows it as well.

I still cant believe FSU lost to USF. However i do think the Big East is not to far behind the ACC. They lack decent teams at the bottom of there conference they have talent.

I'd heard about it since the start of the season, but I guess it's now official.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Mickey Andrews, Florida State's defensive coordinator since 1984, will retire at the end of the season.

Andrews, 68, was scheduled to meet with reporters later Tuesday. His decision was announced in a statement released through the university.

"For 47 years it's been about me," Andrews said. "Now it's time to be about us --my family."

Andrews has been regarded as the architect of the Seminoles' defense for the last quarter-century. Coach Bobby Bowden credits Andrews' work for producing a pair of national championships for the Seminoles.

"He's been here 26 years and we've had such success and you just have to credit him with the success we've had since he came," Bowden said in the statement. "He's done such a great job. We'll miss him and his wife and family."
