Does anybody still think Ginn over Quinn was a bad idea?

And that is exactly what happened, we had lost 4 or 5 games by 3 pts or less and Cameron was brought in to "fix" the offense and they drafted like they were trying to add weapons to the offense.

And it should be pointed out that Draft 07 was not a great one for offensive players in general after Ginn, the next skill offensive player taken was..Brady Quinn at #22...

Most people forget that Marvin Harrison was in Indy a couple of years before Manning ever arrived, Harrison was up to speed and ready to play when Manning showed up...

As a founding member of the "Draft Brady Quinn" fan club, I must finally admit that this pick of Ginn looks a whole lot better today then it did on that fateful draft day.

I still think Quinn could be pretty good in the right place, but I no longer think he's completely bust-proof or headed for stardom!

I was wrong, plain, flat wrong!!

Now, hopefully Ginn can continue to get better and make me even more wrong!

I was never a huge Quinn fan, I was in the Willis camp and still think he would have been the best pick. My biggest issue with Ginn is consistency, I know everyone is high on him right now cause he a big play this week but he needs to be more consistent IMO to prove himself. And yes I realize there are other factors involved, QBs, Offense, etc....

TG is what he is ... a speedy complimentary WR, but he will never - ever be worth the #9 pick in that draft. That is not his fault mind you ... it is what it is ... in contrast, RB displays his draft value -- and if he can stay healthy and on the field, his debate will be finally be over.

Our defense was a top 10 'statistic' defense ... just like it was over the last 10 previous years ... but that didn't make it a good defense -- it didn't and couldn't hold or win games. Once we get some real LBs in here -- we can finally move towards a feared, in your face defense.

I don't think it's pointless. I think it gives us time to reflect on how we thought about a player and gives us the better tools/vision (whatever you wanna call it) to check out players for the future. It certainly is not pointless. Hell, this thread would not be one of the most popular right now if it lacked substance.

Are you calling us a bunch of hacks? :shifty:

Everyone needs to refresh their econ skills and relearn the concept of sunk costs. Why do we care if he's worth the 9th pick in the draft now? Does it honestly even matter? The only time it matters where he was picked is when it comes time to review Cam and Mueller's draft record. They're gone, so it doesn't matter.

I can make the argument that, despite him playing well, Jake Long was not worth the #1 pick. Does it do anyone good? No. Ronnie Brown? He's awesome. No doubt about it. But #2? He has yet to put in a full killer season. I'm talking 1800-2000 total yards. 10 TDs or more. His fault? No. But he still has not lived up to #2 standards if you think about it objectively. He's central to our offense now, and I love him on our team, but Frank Gore was taken in the 3rd round and has a higher ypa, more games played, more receiving yards, more rushing yards. 4 less TDs, but we're talking 3rd round vs. #2 overall.

But do I mention that? No. Sunk costs.

I agree, especially for high-profile picks like this one was. If Quinn was lighting it up right now in - say - the Matt Ryan fashion, or if he was the next Tom Brady, we'd be stewing! Now, we can look back and - at least to some degree - feel a little less stress over this pick. Especially for someone like me who was stunned when Goodell said "Ginn" and not "Quinn" at the time

I think with high-profile picks (1's and 2's), this sort of exercise/debate can let us know how our team is drafting overall. Or at least monitor how we feel about it.

i wanted levi brown, but when the cardnials snatched him up, i wanted reggie nelson.

neither player has done much in his career, but i think of the four mentioned, they all start except for quinn.

i even remember screaming at the t.v. "anybody but quinn!!!!"

GinnJr needs to step it up on SpecialTeams & as a WR
I could care less what happens to Brady Quinn

I actually wanted Ted Ginn going into the draft, although admittedly I didn't think Quinn would be there. I was shocked, yet still thrilled that we finally drafted a guy who I really wanted. I'm still sticking by Ginn. Give him a full season or two with a QB who can actually throw the deep ball in stride.

The only way I can possible fathom someone viewing him a top ten pick going into that draft is if you were suffering from Devin Hester syndrome.... because top ten WR prospect he was not.

Ginn wasn't on my radar at all but I KNEW I didn't want Quinn. He seemed more a product of the ND hype machine, fortunate beneficiary of having Jeff Samardzjia to throw to and way too shaky to warrant a top 10 pick. I seem to remember that a rap on him had to do with a questionable throwing motion that was not easily correctable. It was no accident that after we pizzed off Mel Kiper by disagreeing with his alleged "wisdom", Quinn plummeted to 22 before the Browns stepped in with a mercy draft selection. Thrown into the 07 swirling abyss here, he'd likely have fared just as poorly as JB, but with probably more of an attitude. In all, I was more relieved than thrilled when hearing Ginn's name called.

i think most people that wanted Quinn just loved the idea of finally drafting a "Franchise Quarterback," and i think a lot of them fooled themselves into thinking that Quinn was a great prospect. there needs to be some sort of psychosomatic diagnosis, "Draft-time Hysterics."
