Andre Johnson - a push at best. Anquan Boldin - he isn't even the best WR on his team. Randy Moss - too old. Santonio Holmes - no way. Calvin Johnson - maybe, if he had a real QB. Like brandon27 said Larry Fitzgerald would be the other one that might be better but he has Kurt Warner throwing him the rock. He's bound to have inflated stats with such an awesome passer. Roddy White is the real deal. I thought that was common knowledge?
well thats the spirit for what its worth Henne has a cannon and has a different kind of "it" factor IMO. I just get the sense that the guy is tough as nails and will never wimp out. There's something about him that I think will get players to go through a brick wall for him. I think if Henne pans out and I'm cautiously optimistic then the combination of Henne and Long will be greater than if we drafted Ryan and zero LOT. We would still be looking for a LOT if we didnt draft Jake
Dude I love Roddy White probably as much as anyone on this forum (or at least I thought), but I would take Andre Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald over him 10 times out of ten, without a second thought. I'd take Calvin Johnson over White too.
I don't think Santonio Holmes is a better wideout than Roddy White. White's underrated IMO. His ability to separate using his eyes and shoulders is incredibly good and he has good hands. His route running is very good too.
Andre Johnson a push???? LOL sorry thats too funny. Boldin would be the #1 WR on 95% of the teams in the league. Randy Moss still puts up better numbers than White. Holmes maybe not last year but Holmes looks more of a push against White than White vs AJ. Even without a real QB CJ is a monster.
Since the Steeers will be throwing more look for Holmes to have his best year yet. After all Holmes is tied for 2nd in Receiving yards in the league. Yes sir
While I think White is underrated by many, I think you're underrating some players here. Andre Johnson is a very good wide receiver who has it all. He's got incredibly strong wrists IMO, good body control, can jump with the best of them and can play against any DB. Anquan Boldin may not be the best on his team but he's pretty damn good. I think it speaks more of Fitzgerald's talent when you say that, honestly. He's also got very strong wrists, tough to tackle, can run routes and is very physical. He beats DB's up. Randy Moss is a game changer. I know he's gotten older but one could say that he's gotten more complete as he's gotten older. He still requires teams to roll coverage over his way and he can stil run with the best of them. Not to mention, I dont' think his talent has slipped. It's a matter of will and desire with him. Calvin Johnson is a freak of nature. I don't know how else to put it. Coming out of Georgia Tech he was a very good route runner, excelled on running double moves, he's got very good hands and a ridiculous vertical jump. I think at least three of four of these are ahead of him. One could argue Boldin vs White IMO.
I don't know if I consider him 4th best in the NFL though. Top 10, probably, but it's close. Because man you got (in no order): Andre Johnson Larry Fitzgerald Brandon Marshall Vincent Jackson Calvin Johnson Greg Jennings Steve Smith Reggie Wayne Marques Colston Randy Moss Not saying I'd take all of them before White (especially if I am looking at how much more time each player has left in their career), but you could easily make a case that they are all as good or better than White.
Steelers may look for him more but I don't think he's more gifted of a receiver than White. Just my 2 cents though.
I never said long is a bust but a Qb is the most important postion on the field bar none.Do not underestimate what he is doing in atlanta. The lions have a great receiver probally better than white but I do not see those Qbs lighting it up.Great QBS and defence make teams contenders and we do not have either. The schedule is the main reason we made the playoffs last year. We should have drafted a QB,anybody that thinks pat white will be great is crazy!!!!!The pats are going to start to fall but here comes the damm jets and I know its early but sanchez looks good. What do we have???I hope I am wrong but henne looked like nothing special to me.And please do not give me that crap about the cardinal last year they we're in the prevent. Most qbs will look good when the team is down by 30 points.
Steve Smith still had the most amazing playoff run Ive ever seen probably followed closely by Larry Fitzgerald. Its a shame with Smith though. I wonder what he couldve done with Peyton instead of Delhomme the last few years As of right now I would say Andre Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald are the two best in whichever order you want.
The sad thing is there are people at my work who have the same feelings about this team. "Ted Ginn sucks, Jake Long sucks, shoulda drafted Matt Ryan" etc. Wait a second... Nick, is that you? We have a 9:45 meeting in the conference room. Just a heads up, Brian is not in a good mood today.
Ogden was a great player, but Freeney did give him a lot of problems. The Jake pick seems OK by me. So you want a franchise QB (and who doesn't, really?), but remember, he must be protected to continually develop and eventually become elite. J. Flacco or M. Ryan on his back doesn't do anybody any good (except the opponents). In '96 colts took Marvin Harrison 19th spot in Rnd. 1. In '97 we took Tarik Glenn in same Rnd and position. It was then in 1998 we took nabbed our QB (after much debate about which one, Peyton or Ryan Leaf). It appears to have worked out for us. I personally wouldn't disparage a key piece (LT) in the Offensive puzzle while waiting for the QB piece to be put in place. Just my .02
OT: Live in Gateway area not far from Riverdale HS, but grew up in Indy and Cincy areas. Always a Colt fan (even/especially Baltimore days). I moved here in 2001. On topic, you have Jake Long (who will only get better), how long has it been since Ted Ginn was drafted? Peyton was a Rookie in Marvin's third year and Glenn's 2nd. Henne and Ginn ready? (not putting pressure on Henne to be Manning and Ginn to be Harrison... OK maybe a little.
Right on. Gateway is nice. Welcome to the best Dolphins site on the web. (I'm obligated by ThePhins.com to say that last part) Ginn was drafted (along with his family) in 2007. Henne was drafted the following season. Many here have hoped the Henne/Ginn connection will be something special because of Henne's deep ball threat and Ginn's speed, so we'll have to see what happens. A combo half as good as Manning/Harrison would be a dream come true at this point.
You can get a good to elite QB in FA. You cannot get even a good LT. IMO this shows it is harder to get, and more important to hang onto, a great LT.
hmmm What has Matt Ryan won? You think the Bears are going to win with Cutler? Carson Palmer on the Bengals? I mean you can go on and on about this. It takes a team to win, not just one great QB, we tried that with Marino and we didn't get it done then.
I wish we wouldn't label Henne a bust until he is offically a bust. He can't be an offical bust until he becomes a starter and has a chance to develope cohesion with the starting offense. I disagree that we are on the way down and Atlanta is on the way up. We hit rock bottom when we were 1-15 and irregardless what our schedule was last year we finished 11-5 and won the division and nobody expected that. Atlanta had pretty much all of the pieces in place when they lost Vick but improved that position with Ryan. Parcells said it all when he made that statement about no talent on the Miami roster. We all knew it would take time to replenish the talent we had lost over the years and it would take talented players to make this team better. Even after finishing 11-5 we still have a ways to go and positions of need.
From last year, the top 5 QBs via rating, the three with stars were free agents pick ups. I would say being top 5 in the leage is elite, no? 1 Philip Rivers 2 Chad Pennington* 3 Kurt Warner* 4 Drew Brees * 5 Peyton Manning Also, think of what we could have had if we made better FA selections. We chose Culpepper over Brees, Fielder over Hasselbeck.
kurt wanrer is older than dirt (what they get him for three years or so) and pennington is definitely not elite which is why he'll be dumped in 2010
That's right, I remember reading this about the trade and for some reason I thought they missed calling them back becuase the decided on Fielder. I think I was getting Hasselbeck mixed up with Trent (what throws can he make that Fielder can't) Green. Still, I think my point stands, we could have had Trent Green in his prime. And becuase I had to look it up, here is how close we were to Hasselbeck... http://www.signonsandiego.com/uniontrib/20060118/news_1s18seahawks.html
Warner could have easly won a championship last year due in no small part to his play, which is IMO the point. Also, Pennington had an elite year, the man was a MVP runner up.
