I hate to burst your Ricky Williams is god bubble, but they both get caught from behind. Heck Felix Jones got caught from behind today. It happens.
That's the thing, at this point in the season, if there is any blame to be spread about our run game or lack thereof, it has to be placed at the feet of Sparano and Henning....they just aren't running the ball enough to tell whether the combo of RW and RB can wear folks down. They, imo, did the same thing last year...the obvious strength of this team is these two guys and they are vastly underutilized....If Chad is inclined to dink and dunk, why not to Ronnie and Ricky ??? Either of those two are more dangerous in the open field than Bess, Cammy or Ginn... It's almost as if they just don't have confidence that we can run the ball down the throats of folks. I do too, but the fact is that we haven't even tried to do this yet...this year or last...so, I agree with you...they should be our go-to guys...not Bess
Well with the way the OL has played, does that surprise you ?? There is the root of our issues and perhaps Sparano knows this and that's why they treat both guys in the backfield like they were fine china...
Going into the falcons game I was "sure" that we would run the ball, and use every second of the clock to keep ryan off the feild. Instead, we screwed around doing everything BUT running the rock... and look what happened...
You and me both. This is what baffles me about our team. We're built to be maulers, but always try to get cute with the playcalling. Pound the rock, hit on some intermediate throws to make the defense a little softer, then chuck it deep when the stack the box. It's so simple, but it's so effective, and we're built for it!
If we are afraid to run Ricky because he quit in Wannstache because ran him too much, then Ricky is a hindrance to the team. He is a running back. Running backs run the ball. If that means he runs the ball 20+ times a game, then that's what he should do. If Ricky doesn't want to do it, then feed Ronnie. One of them needs to get 20+ carries a game, it's thay simple. Granted, we do need to hit passes if they stack the box... Posted via Mobile Device
I don't care how good your OL is, if theres 8 in the box, you take advantage through the air. We ran the ball more than enough through 3 quarters last week. If you go look at two of the best rushing teams in the NFL, Minn and NYG, they both ran less than we did last week.
That's basically what Dan Henning was saying when he said that teams are too good to just "impose your will on" week in and week out. Chances are, if they want to stop one aspect of your game, they will. I'm all for getting Ronnie Brown 20-25 touches, but I also feel it's important to take what the defense gives you. Our problem is we don't have the weapons to capitalize on that aspect of what defenses give us, which is the vertical passing game.
It worked for us last year. As bad as we were against Atlanta, in 2008 our offense was one of the more efficient offenses in the league. I still think David Martin's loss is huge, and someone really needs to step up. We have some guys that can get open, but we have nobody to throw to, in the middle of the field, when they are covered.
Let's not get ridiculous about it. I never called RW "god", so I hate to burst YOUR bubble. BUT, Ricky Williams is MUCH faster to the holes and creates yardage in the smallest of seams. He doesn't dance in the backfield. He runs to where the play is designed to go - to hell with who is in his way. He rarely loses yardage.
Let's face it folks: we still have entirely too many weaknesses on the offensive side of the ball. Yes, CP did a fine job for us last season, but he does have his limitations. And those limitations are magnified by a receiving corp that scares no one. On top of this, our highly paid o-line didn't live up to their pay in game one. Let's hope we see some vast improvement tonight.
If coaches were to go by that, they would be failures in my opinion. You can't favor one guy when you have another talented guy behind him. They both deserve to get the ball as much as they possibly can. Both are quality backs. Both run hard and both show the ability to pick up yards. He doesn't start hot nor does he finish hot. I'm surprised he's still healthy.
You didn't call him god in those exact words. But its obvious where you stand with him. Both Ricky and Ronnie lose yards. Do they lose yards often? Not usually, both can make first guy miss. As for DANCING, most RB's dance when the line fails to block their guys consistantly. I have seen every RB in the league dance, even the ALL mega god himself AP. Penetration will make a RB dance period.
We do have one WR who scares people, just don't have the ability to get the ball to him. So yeah the offense does have some large weaknesses. I agree Penny did great last year, but we need more then that. Online better gel fast.
