I think switching QBs is a horrible idea. But we need a Shotgun package of plays for Chad Henne to run.

But as long as Pennington is our QB, we should bring Henne in on 3rd and over 7-8 yards. Our completion percentage of these downs last year was almost zero so what do we have to lose? Last year we were far away the worse in the NFL at converting 3rd and long. For us, 3rd and 8 yards is a drive stopper.

They broke down this stat late last season. I was stunned. But sure enough, I noticed after that we never made a 3rd and long. A penalty kills our drives. A sack kills our drives. It made me realize just how hard it is for our offense to keep drives going. We can never make mistakes. We can never play from too far behind. Time after time after time we would dump off on 3rd down for 5 yards and punt.

Think about that. We completed only a couple of 3rd and longs during the entire season last year.

So why not bring Chad Henne in on those downs? If he can complete 10-15% of them we are a better team. If he cannot complete some of them then we need to look into drafting another QB. Chad Henne is far away our best chance of making 3rd and long. Since he can throw a 40 yard pass, it will also open up the underneath.

No defense is afraid of Pennington throwing over 20 yards so they sit 8-10 yards off the LOS. He has no underneath passes because no one is sitting back. Plus with Henne's zip on the ball he can hit a WR on something besides a curl.

I almost hate to bring this up but in Tim Tebow's freshman year the Gators brought him in on 3rd or 4th and short. Because he was their best chance of making one yard. Chad Henne is our best chance of making 8 yards.

It may sound crazy but that how Randall Cunningham got his start with the Eagles. He came in for Ron Jaworski on 3rd and longs. He eventually took the job completely.

Fuxk it, put Pat White in the shotgun formation on 3rd and long and trade Chad Henne now if you think he cannot do it. We bring Pat White in to throw twice a game so why not bring Henne in to throw 7 times?

Or should we simply quick kick on 3rd and 9?

Considering that Sparano is going to keep Chad Pennington as our starter, Chad Henne coming in to complete long passes is our only option.

The "henne package",a little somethin i came up with about 8 months ago, wrote a thread about it called, "The Henne package"........didnt have a lot of fans of the idea i must say, lol....good luck buddy..lol.

I wouldnt bring him in on 3rd downs, but i did suggest back then, a no huddle type deal.

Hey man, i saw Pat white on the field, early, in our first game of the season, {that was crazy even for me} i wouldnt put anything past our staff. A four headed offense of Chad, chad, ronnie and Pat, interchangable on the fly....crazy huh.

Personally, if what you are saying is true (which im almost certain it may be), If pennington cant get us completions beyond 10 yards because they are his safest throws given his arm strength, they maybe, just maybe we should consider a new starting QB all together. Enough of this substituting QB stuff, lets just get one guy in there, who can make all the throws. Henne has a cannon for an arm, he can clearly hit the underneath stuff, and the deeper stuff.

While I know what Pennington did for us last year was outstanding, but he is what he is. I feel that he's holding our offense back from making some big plays. However, i feel he helps this offense tremendously by not making the big mistakes. However as of late, he's been making those mistakes. Call it poor OL play if you will, however it's still chad making the plays out there. Its still Chad that held the ball up in the air, making it easier for the D to knock it out of his hands on the fumble, its still chad who basically threw the ball almost directly to the D on his interception, where he had time to throw the ball. I think sometimes when you try and play safe, sometimes you play too safe.

Bottom line is, we need someone who can take this offense to the next level in the passing game. I don't think bringing QB's in and out of the game on a regular basis is the way to do it.

Yeah, I'm not one to panic after one game but we need to be able to make some plays down the field at least a little! I personally wigged-out after our last offensive possession and on 3rd down Bess is so far back that he actually LOST A YARD!! ON A PASS PLAY!! Ugh... If Pennington struggles that badly on Monday Night I say put in Henne and begin the future now!

That being said I expect Pennington to bounce back this week as well as the O-line. They should be pissed-off and ready to go!

Sorry I don't want any of this. You totally destroy the chemistry, momentum and confidence of the players swapping QB's in and out...

The wildcat I can understand but QB's work on rhythm and getting into the flow of the game. Bringing in people for third downs is counter productive. If Pennington is going to cause us to not be able to stretch the field than we need to replace him..

The question is, if we continue to struggle offensively do we go ahead and switch to Henne and see what he can do and start to develope him for the future? We really need to know if Henne is the future or do we need to continue looking for our future signal caller? Pat white was a good college QB but that doesn't always equate to the pro level. I like Chad Pennington and I have defended him in the past but we need to be realistic.

Bit early to be talking about this if we are down by 4-5 standings in the division early id say sure if not let Henne practice and hone the skills JMO.

As far as the thread goes if our coaching regime could pull off something like that and give us the three or some say four headed monster I WOULD START TO BELIEVE THEY REALLY ARE GODS!

I honestly think we only see him come in if it looks like we're not going to the playoffs. Maybe even if its only a glimmer to save the season (like having to win all the remaining games but one, or all the remaining games for that matter). But I really just don't see a knee-jerk reaction from Sparano like that. We're not seeing the same performance out of our offense as a whole, that we saw in pre-season, and the practices. It's not just Pennington's fault. Now if that becomes the case, that might change things a bit.

I just get the feeling Sparano doesn't even want to consider that outcome yet, and is going to try really hard this week to get his team back into the form we saw in some of those successful pre-season games.

I think everyone is just a bit nervous about the QB situation just because its our default reaction to. I mean how many years has this been the primary topic of conversation? I don't think that debate needs to happen just yet. However if Pennington proves he can't give us what he gave us last year we will not be a playoff team, and I have no doubts we'll start working on the future when that milestone/realization is reached.

if the offensive line redeems itself
Pennington will be in good shape & so will the offense
if not, we'll have to perfect the new & improved WildCat very soon
& Pat White captains that system, Henne wouldn't have a shot

I tutored Logic at the U of Fla, what is your excuse for trying to make sense?

The problem with having Pennington in the shotgun is by the time he has the ball and is ready, he has to throw his 8 yard curl right then.

If anyone is running a fly, streak, post or flag they are now beyond his arm reach.

One thing that is often not considered is how fast can you throw and how fast does the ball move. Stronger QBs cannot just throw far, their passes also take less time to go from A to B.

Here is a important stat about QBs. How long after you think about throwing does the ball leave your hand? For Dan Marino it was .3 seconds. For Culpopper it was 3 minutes...

That is why Pennington's passes are picked off. The velocity of the ball is much less. And the window to hit a open man is less. Pennington has to throw sooner to hit the same route because his ball takes more time to reach the WR. Plus, He has to have more of a wind up to throw even a short pass.

Here is how you know a QB has a STRONG ARM. When he is being pulled down, he throws a 15 yard completion.

If Chad Henne cannot make a read in the shotgun by now we need to draft another QB. Give him a simple "Culpepper read", if the WR is not open long, throw it for a shorter first down.

Were going to win or loose with CP, not CH this year.
Beside Henne sucked in preseason against backups, why do you think he will do good against starters??

I said this in another thread just a while ago, but it bears repeating here: Tony Sparano said it best in his Monday presser: "16 teams lost this weekend, and I don't see any of the other 15 canceling their season."

Another poster chimed in a brilliant point in the next post: "I don't see any of the other 15 teams that lost last weekend changing their #1 QB either".

We will live or die this season with Penny, unless we really die and become mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, that is the ONLY point at which you will see Chad Henne replace Chad Pennington. END OF STORY!

we have a veteran qb that needs to play well, its game #3, his last 2 have been poor outings...were seeing some hesitancy, maybe even a qb who is lacking confidence to go down field right now. i dont know, i just know i need to see chads plan b, i feel like there is enough diverse talent on this offense to have a good offense, and a damn good running game..

    The facts are simple.

Last year the Dolphin play by play guys (Bob and Nat) explain how bad the Dolphins were in ever converting a 3rd and over 6 yards. We are by far the worse in the NFL. After that I paid attention and we almost never converted one. In fact we rarely tried to. We threw 4 yard curls to the running backs and they would be tackled.

So do you try something/someone else on 3rd and long or just accept it?

If your house is on fire do you wait 15 minutes for the fire department or allow your neighbors to start pouring water on it with their garden hoses?

Sometimes reality just comes up and slaps you in the face.

CH just needs to sit on his arse until he can prove that he can lead this team. He's had plenty of chances in mini camps, preseason and practice to show what he can do. If CH comes into a game at this point, the Dolphins are in trouble. Maybe in due time, but he's not ready at this point.

Bobby Bowden would routinely bring his QB-of-the-future for the last series before halftime; as long as that possession does not result in giving the ball back with enough time for the other team to score, it's good way get your QB panties wet.

How can a QB prove that he can lead a team unless he plays in the game?

8 preseason games, 2 years worth of mini-camp, OTA's, 2 years of training camps. He isn't there yet, maybe sooner or later, but not right now.
