IMHO there should be NO rankings until at least week 5. I will not go into the UF schedule of teams that could not beat Dr. Phillips HS since it will just piss off the Gator faithful, so take LSU for example...#9...based on beating the ONLY team that could not win a game last year and ...started 4 freshmen, and a Vandy team that played Western Northern Central Carolina in week 1 LSU could not put them away until 6 minuets left in the game......... They have a QB that throws the ball end over end and a lazy RB...yet they are number 9 because of............................maybe reputation...or maybe so the SEC gets SOS points so ESPN can have the two most POPULAR teams playing for the NC at the end of the year intead of the two best teams.

Gator fans will argue that SOS now does not count...a win is a win....yet it is funny how it counted when UTAH was undefeated and a win had to be a "quality win".............at least before the BCS the popularity contest was out in the open....................

Its hard when the schedule was made 4 yrs ago. I think we can all agree a playoff is needed and that would settle alot. Gators have a much easier schedule than in years past, But they can only play the cards there dealt.

Being a Cane fan I will pick on my own...a team that was average last year, that beat a team by 1......a team that was losing to Jacksonville State midway through Q4....how does that justify #19 or whatever?

But Gator fans did not present the argument that way when Utah "played the cards they were dealt" and ran the table. Do not misunderstand me I think the Gators are a very very good football team...but how will we know? I agree I am a traditionalist but it is time for a playoff IMHO. I just hate the hypocrisy I also hate it when we pretend this is not all about ESPN BCS money and is not a popularity contest...

I think its the fact that Florida still plays better teams week to week than Utah. Any way you slice it Utah does not play a scedule like the SEC. Florida has a weak SEC schedule this year and I am sure they never expected FSU to be like they are. If FSU gets back to where it was there schedule looks alot better. I see where your coming from tho

I doubt College of Charleston or Troy is going to be a legitimate threat to UF in four years...or four hundered years for that matter. COC got what...600K for getting the hat handed to them and Utah would have played in G'ville for half that. Now we get the spin just like when UF dropped UM that Utah did not want the game which is inaccurate ...UF did not want the game when it could have exercised a buy out with COC for not playing and paid Utah half what CofC played for......the end result would have been about 4 hot dogs difference in the Swamp.....

I agree...BUT...say Texas, USC, and Florida go undeafeted....look at the NC games and honestly tell me that CofC, Troy and FSU are "better" opponents than Ohio State, Notre Dame, and San Jose for USC....and UCF, UTEP and Wyoming for Texas.

there is NO way Gator fans will accept the schedule strength argument if they were voted #3 out of those 3............the argument is genersally (not by you) to fit the purposes of the homers............

That argument only really flies when you're playing a division 1 team that has at least some sort of a track record of being decent. If you schedule say Purdue and it happens to be a bad year for them, I cant blame you.

But 4 years ago UF's athletic director (or any AD who schedule's division 2 teams) wasnt thinking Charleston Southern could pose a problem when you play them. Now I dont blame UF for scheduling cupcakes. You do play in a tough conference, and you dont need a tough out of conference schedule, so why take the risk? However, it irks me to see division 1 teams playing schools no one has heard of, that have essentially zero chance of even putting up a fight. Play a low level Pac 10 team or Big Ten team. Maybe one of those teams could have a punchers chance if things go there way for a year or two.

And you can only play the card's you're dealt, but the school's have a lot of say in the cards they get.

As for the poll, how does USC get a 1st place vote when they get almost nothing from their passing game?

If they play a team with a good offense they're in trouble.

I am not CS or Troy are legite oppenents but you have to realize that Florida needs its home games to make money. Its a business to keep the athletics going. CS was choosen as more of last minute type of thing and the Gators tried to get UTah but the deal fell threw.

Troy by the way has played alot of good teams and almost won!!! They are not as bad as people make them out to be.

    2008
    Troy 10 Ohio State 28
    Troy 31 LSU 40
    Troy 24 OK State 54

Almost beat LSU and played Ohio State pretty tough.

    2007

    Troy 31 Florida 59
Troy 41 Oklahoma State 23 (They won)
    Troy 34 Georgia 44

They beat Oklahoma State and played Georgia really tough!!

    2006

    Troy 17 FSU 24
    Troy 20 Georgia Tech 35

Not bad that they stayed pretty close with two ACC teams.

Some teams also like to warm up againist smaller school to work the kinks out. In this day and age if you lose one game you might not get a shot at a National title. Ohio State and USC don't play in Championship games either which is another part of it.

College Football is to blame and they need to make an incentive for teams to go out and schedule really tough games. The only thing they offer now is that if you lose your droppig no matter how close.

Seems like you're taking it upon yourself to speak for the Gator fans here way more than you should. I'm positive you won't find any Gator fan here that says our SoS this year is top notch. What exactly can be done about that now? Nothing. So instead of constantly complaining about it why don't we let things play out on the field. I think its safe to say that 99% of us want a playoff but until that happens we're stuck with the BCS system like it or not.

I am going by the posts Mo. There were MANY posts about Utah's schedule not being worthy of NC consideration because their opponents were weak. Now I have not seen one Gator fan say that Florida is not worthy because of a weaker schedule than most of the other NC contenders. But I agree lets see how it plays out, it is early and blind squirrels find acorns some weeks. I am not whining about it, I have lost some zest for CFB myself watching what is happening...it is what it is.

I'll be the first to admit UF's schedule is far weaker than it has been in recent years but I would definitely disagree that Utah's Mountain West Schedule last season was tougher than UF's SEC schedule this year. Not to mention, have you seen Utah play yet this season? I have absolutely no doubts that if we had been able to schedule them the first game we would have easily put 50+ on them. Obviously we'll never know, but at this point all we can do is watch how the games play out and let the chips fall where they may.

No team is going to schedule tough teams consistantly. You lose a game it's over.

Florida doesnt schedule tough games for a lot of reasons, but one has to be that they play in the SEC. For a while that conference was one where you could lose almost any game. Why would they add to that?

UF's SEC schedule is difficult enough every year that it compares favorably to most other team's schedules. Look at this year, which by all accounts looks like a weak year. If UF is in the NC conversation at the end of the year after the SEC championship game they will have probably played two top 10 teams (LSU and probably Alabama) and two other top 25 teams (Georgia and FSU). Four top 25 teams on any schedule is not considered a weak schedule. In fact most teams would call that a tough schedule. Then you throw in a bowl game against another top 5 team and I don't think anybody would be able to claim that UF didn't play anyone.

So I don't agree that it would be hypocritical to complain about Utah's SOS and not complain about UF's SOS. BTW I wasn't among those that said Utah didn't deserve a shot. But UF and Utah are not really in comparable situations.

In a system where 1 loss can doom your season, why would any team want to schedule a tough opener and run the risk of derailing your championship hopes. Especially when in that first game you still have to work your kinks out. I'm not saying Georgia is a good team but their season has already taken a huge hit after losing to OK St

So you think we should drop FSU and play someone else? Sorry that one of our biggest rivals is in the same state. The fact is going to some of the stadiums in the SEC is about as tough as you get. LSU, Tennessee, Alabama, Auburn, and South Carolina. Those are some pretty tough places to play. Add to the fact that the Florida play Georgia in a neutral site every year is pretty even for both team.

The Gators play a rival game in the state of Florida. They can't help it that FSU is not in the SEC. All of Ohio States rivals are in the Big Ten.

Ohio State last year played youngstown state, Ohio, and Troy. Team need thos home games and really cant do more than one home and home games. The Gators also play a neutral game and there conference has a Chamipionship game. Its hard to predict who is good and really hard to schedule soo many tough games when anything can happen.

I'm aware of Ohio St weak schedule a large part of that is most good teams do not want a 1 and done series which Ohio St asks that. They do however do a 2 games series which they just finished up USC and play Miami for the next 2 years then I believe its Vtech, Cal, Oklahoma, Tennessee.

I wish the Big Ten would add 1 more team so we can have a championship game. That would benefit CF IMO.

That series that you have one home and one away we have with FSU. That game use to put two top ranked team v.s. each other at the end of the year. We need the rest of our home games

Wow... always going to schedule strength. Yes while I agree this years schedule looks MUCH easier than the past, you never know. It is way too early to start talking about SOS, IMO. Heck last year no one thought Ole Miss was any good. Now a lot think they are great. Beginning of last year NO one thought Bama was crap... yet they had a pretty damn good year. Point is, lets talk about SOS at the end of the year.

As for playing in a easy conference... Yeah it looks like the SEC is down. However, I did not see UM complaining when they were going through a crappy Big East all those years. ;) Now those teams then beat up good teams in the bowls, and so far so has UF.

I still think most of us want a playoff. I think it eliminates a lot of questions. NOT all, but most.

It's funny how the college football ranking system and BCS doesn't have to make any sense to anyone - it just "is," and no one can do anything about it.
