I know he's no longer on the team but I thought I would pass this along.

A league source tells us that Ravens quarterback John Beck has a broken collarbone, and that he's expected to miss the entire season.

Another source, however, says it's not broken.

While Beck's specific status isn't clear, Aaron Wilson of the Carroll County Times reports that Beck has left training camp.

had a lot of Beck bashing that went on when he was with Miami
funny thing is, I never saw a significant difference between the two #2's
I wish him a speedy recovery & some luck in his beleaguered career

sometimes it's better to be lucky than good :shifty:

Beck's stats were good, but he was not. That 63 yard near TD pass would have been an INT possibly for 6 if anyone other than a 3rd/4th string DB had been playing. Beck looked the same. Overwhelmed.Sacked. Failed to complete a 4th and short with a whimpy under thrown ball to the ground. He should have had several interceptions. He had one good throw and it wasn't the 63 yarder. That play had more to do with Foster- the poor mans Pat White who Miami was high on last year.

Beck wasn't a young guy to begin with, and adding Cleo Lemon..sheesh..Cameron couldn't do jack with those guys when he had them here in 07.

as a draft choice, I think Flacco was a better pick than Beck or Henne.
Hope Henne has improved as an understudy.
    Pennington won't last forever.
Guess we'll get to see how far Henne has come in the pre-season. Should see a lot of play time.

I thought the broken collarbone was an old injury... I mean, when he was yanked by Cameron during that Bills' game, how could that not have resulted in some type of injury.

Flacco better than Beck? No doubt.

Flacco better than Henne? I'll hold my opinion on that one until Henne gets a few starts. Flacco had a very good year... for a rookie. By normal NFL QB standards, he didn't exactly light the NFL on fire.

I'd say the jury is still out.

Beck should retire already. This isnt some Hollywood movie like Rudy. He's a midget playing a big man's game and should sell insurance or something

I can't believe CH anyou don't think Flacco isn't better than Henne, Flacco beat the Fins twice last year, Henne watched he couldn;t beat CP for the job.
I would take Flacco over CP any time.

I almost feel sorry for Beck, but it sounds to me like Cam Cameron hasn't changed a bit going back to being an OC. I think he will ultimately fail because he cannot seem to judge these guys. I know he did well with Brees and Rivers, but I'm beginning to think that was more Brees and Rivers than it was Cameron.

Beck was TERRIBLE out there yesterday, he hasn't improved 1 bit and he's in his 3rd season. Now CC is going to bring in Cleo Lemon? Frankly I think Flacco isn't as great as he's been cracked up to be, give any QB that OL, that running game, and that defense, and he's going to look good. This is not sour grapes for a 1-15 season, I just think Cam Cameron is not the OC that even I once thought he was.

Cameron overextended himself and then caved in to pressure to start Beck before he was properly prepared. Remember that the FO said from the beginning that he was going to sit for a year and learn from Green the same way Rivers sat on the bench behind Brees. Once Green went down and Lemon proved to be just that, Cam threw Beck to the wolves without giving him sufficient practice time with the first team offense, which had been gutted due to injuries and trades (Chambers), half assed play (Booker) and an OL that admittedly didn't try when the "rookie" was in there. Instead of being a leader, Cam let the team get away from him.

    Funny how?

Because the kid broke his collarbone or because he was tossed into a bad situation? I never understood the gleeful hate that some people showed towards him.

Henne was never in a real competition to beat Penny for the starting spot, he was being groomed the same way that Beck and Rivers were. Once Pennington was brought in, it was his job to lose much the same way it was for Green. So it wasn't a case that Henne couldn't beat out Chad, it was that he was never even considered as a starting candidate. That doesn't reflect on his ability, it's how the FO decided to develop him.

The Hate I believe stems from the disappointment in him not living up to his billing........he was supposed to be very good and after a few years be our Franchise QB.......he failed in every respect and got PAID doing it

I can understand the resentment....weather deserved or not is another issue

I think it has more to do with the disappointment in not drafting Quinn, who has yet to prove anything in the NFL, that isn't Beck's fault. If folks want to be angry, direct the anger towards the people who were calling the shots in the draft war room.

He was never supposed to see the field in his first year, then was tossed into the fire without being properly prepared by the coaching staff. Then a new regime comes in and drafts another young QB, and then bring in a vet of Pennington's caliber, Beck never had a realistic shot (nor did Henne) at the starting job. I would blame Cam before I would blame the player, once a QB loses his confidence, it's hard for them to regain it. If Beck wasn't prepared in the weeks leading up to his start, he never should have seen the field IMO.

cameron is an excellent offensive coordinator IMO. He ran a great offense last year for what he had to work with. I just think he brings these guys in (Beck, Cleo) because they know his system and for no other reason. Cleo and Beck are just there to fight for 3rd string, nothing more

For my part I hated him because I thought he was a loser from day one. I never understood the fanfare that came with the pick. I hated him because he cost us some other player we could have drafted instead. I definitely didnt want brady quinn. Another loser IMO. I hated Daunte too and Gus Frerotte. I hate any player on our team that I think is a bust. Thankfully this year the only guy I hate is Eric Green. Ayodele is borderline. I just dislike him

Would you agree that he wasn't properly prepared by the coaching staff to see the field once Green went down and Lemon flopped?

well yes and no. I never thought he had the goods to begin with so I think he wouldve failed no matter how he was prepared. Having said that he was thrown in way before he was ready and it just made a bad outcome horrible

funny that you mention those guys because I have no hate for any of them.:lol: I probably should have some for Feeley but he was part of one of the greatest Dolphins victories of the 21st century. I like Ted Ginn. I wanted Pat Willis but we needed speed so I was cool with the pick. I was glad we didnt draft Quinn and I have no problem with Ginn's development up to now. Jason Allen has to produce this year. I thought that was a guy that got completely screwed by Saban's constant moving around. He wasnt my pick that year but once again I didnt hate the pick. I loved Satele and think he'll be great in Oakland's s cheme. I think he was perfect for Cameron's scheme but once Sparano came in we needed the road graders. I absolutely love Merling. I dont buy that he's underperforming right now. I guess we'll know soon enough though

Fair enough. I think the way he was handled and the followup results destroyed his confidence, then the new regime brought in 2 players, further damaging his head. Neither Beck nor Henne were going to have a real shot last year to be the starter, so Beck never really had the opportunity to make up for his rookie year. But the reports from TC last year said that he looked better, so I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and say that his first season wasn't necessarily indicative of his ability. :wink2:

Hate is such a strong word. Sometimes, people forget this is just a game. Hating a guy because he isn't good at a particular sport and is playing on your team is just wrong. Disliking him as a player, Ok. But hating him, grow up.
