How about they play at an above average level for at least a season before we do this?

I believe by the end of the 2009 season our Offensive Line will be recognized as one of the best in the NFL & is destined to enter the books with the likes of the RedSkin's infamous Hogs because:

    1) we have the best set of BookEnds in the NFL: Long & Carey
    2) we acquired a top-tier NFL veteran Center during the off season upgrading significantly the position
    3) we have two outstanding guards & excellent back-up depth for 2009
    4) Coaching & development:

    (A) Bill Parcells is the power House of the trenches. wherever he has established a team, he has assembled powerful Offensive & Defensive Lines.

    (B) Our Head Coach is an Offensive Line Coach. He made his bones @ both the university level & in the NFL as a premier Offensive Lines Coach. Tony knows the Offensive line.

    (C) The firing of Maser & hiring of Guglielmo. Coach G. was the Assistant Lines Coach for what is arguably the top Offensive Line in the NFL, the NYGiants. They will be coached up exceeding all expectation.

    (D) there exists a template to build upon: 1. size & strength 2. character (they like leaders, especially team captains) 3. history: they trace them from their HS days playing football. 4. Consistency, love of game, team players that buy into a system & a willingness to work hard & through injuries.

    (E) the front line has been assembled after diligent research. the home work was done. the Orca-5 have earned the stamp of approval of the Trifecta. Both Ireland & Sparano talk with great enthusiasm about what our KillerWhales will present to the league in 2009. With the obvious support of the Silent One behind it all.

    Where's the problem?

23rd, numbers 1 through 3 on your post may not be true.
Although number one may be debateable, I don't know if we have the best set of tackles in the game.
Jake Grove is not a top tier NFL Center. He is to injury prone.
We do not have two outstanding guards and great depth. Smiley is a good but injury prone Guard. Donald Thomas and Shaw Murphy have proven nothing. And depth on the offensive line is the last thing we have on this team.

    I love your optimism, though.

I hate to put a damper on your enthusiasm, but Orcas and Dolphins do NOT get along well. They are really sort of like Jests fans and Dolphin fans. Given the size of offensive linemen these days, the natural connection between whales and that position seems likely. However, even though testosterone may drive football players, the term Sperm Whale may be a bit unpalatable to some. The Blue Whale Five sounds like a musical group specializing in three cord blues, or a bunch of over feed police officers. And Gray Whale and Humpbacks are right out. Therefore, thou shouldst count to three, three being the full counting thereof, and seekest thou another nickname for the Line of Offense.

Friend Ashraf: welcome to disagree on numbers 1-3, but that is how I see it. And I see it that way after a lot of reading/research, whatever. This is not a mindless declaration, it is a well studied observation. I can break it done player by player & giving my reasoning & resources, if you'd like too see it.

Friend RevRick: you said: Orcas and Dolphins do NOT get along well.
(however, dolphins, orcas & whales are all in the same family derived from the same species)
True outside of Bush Gardens, they don't get along with too many edible creatures when they're hungry. And that's the reason you keep up front on the offensive line, facing the defense not your own team  let them feed off the defense!

The KillerWhale or Orca will attack & eat anything including the Great White Shark, if provoked or hungry. Orcas are the Alpha-Beasts of the ocean & in our case the Orca-5 will be the top predator in the NFL trenches in 2009.
    no damper, no doubt:
