Yeah well the Ortiz thing they got the report from NESN I think. I bet the Reddick thing is true and the Sox just have him there just in case of anything.

Funniest thing I've seen or heard tonight so far (beside Damon's pregame interview) see 4 Yankee fans sitting in the front row just behind the Yankee dugout with each one wearing a T-shirt with a number '1 9 1 8'. Clearly they've been in comas since 2003 and just woke up today.

Hate to say it but Smoltz is done. There should be no reason why he gets another start. If the Sox want to try him out of the pen, ok maybe as there's a chance he's at least better than Saito or Billy Traber. But give the ball to Tazawa or Bowden, at least they might be able to give us 5 innings and keep the other team from scoring under 5 runs.

Not half as funny as the two asshats in full umpire gear the other night in Toronto right behind the plate...calling balls and strikes and actually pretending to throw new balls back to the pitcher after fouls.

Retire, please. I don't want to see his ****in' face again.

Theo did a truly awful job this offseason. Really it was a massive organizational failure on almost every level.

Also, I've had just about enough of Lowrie getting overmatched at the plate. He better not be in the 2010 plans.

I don't blame Theo. The FA pool was limited, outside of CC, Burnett and Teixeira. Would you have liked him to sign Oliver Perez or Derek Lowe? Really who was there to get out there that would have helped the Sox and not killed them in contracts? I wanted Teixeira and he went to NY. And there was no way the Sox were going to shell out the money the Yankees gave to Burnett or CC.

Injuries have hurt this team, especially in the starting rotation. It's not an excuse by any means but I know I was counting on Matsuzaka to give us some innings this year. I didn't expect him to go 18 and 3 again but I also didn't expect him to give us an ERA of 8 in 5 or 6 starts. It's clear the team can't count on Wakefield anymore to give them anything more than a half a year.

I'm not giving up on Lowrie because we have never seen a healthy Lowrie play in the MLB yet. Apparently his latest injury has been bothering him for awhile. It may just be Lowrie will always be an injury guy but I still cut him some slack.

I think it's clear the Sox need to get younger. I'm extremely worried about Lowell moving forward. He can't move anymore. Drew, eventhough the guy has had a lot of big hits for this team over the past 3 years, has been terrible this year too. I'd let Bay walk in the offseason and stick Drew in LF and Reddick in RF. And hope that Lars Anderson makes big steps in the minors and will be ready to take over 1st in June or July, moving Youkilis to 3rd full time.

I'd obviously try to make deals for Hanley, Adrian Gonzalez and/or Felix Hernandez eventhough I doubt any of those guys will be available but I don't think the guys that will be free agents this year are anything that would really help out this team in the future. And I'd try to move Papelbon in the off season and give Bard the closer's job.

Derek Lowe would've been a nice signing for you guys. He's never injured, throws alot of strikes, and gives you achance to win almost every time out. Not to mention he had a pretty nice run the first time around in Boston.

I love Lowe and all but there's no way I'd give him a that 4 year 60 million dollar deal or whatever that figure was. Plus he had some off the field issues in Boston that the FO was less than thrilled about and I really don't think he would have faired well pitching in the AL at this stage in his career. If it was a 2 or 3 year deal at 30 million or so, that I'd maybe jump on it but that's too much money for someone who's not a shut down pitcher.

Give me a break with this garbage, its Theo's fault that he relied on the likes of Smoltz, Penny, Saito and Ramirez contributing anything this year. They have done nothing but hurt this team. Add that to the fact that he turned down a Lee for Buchholz swap and he's on the hook for this current disaster.

Also, he gave Drew way too much money, and everyone knew it when he inked that contract 3 years ago (hell, look at the posts on FH regarding that signing). He also re-upped Lowell after his 2007 WS MVP award, funny I thought that we didn't pay for past performance, Theo? He's successfully proven that he has absolutely no idea what to look for in a FA SS -- Renteria, Lugo -- and he clearly overrated the likes of Lowrie (who seems to be on the same career path as Nomar, except for the fact that he skipped over the being good part and went straight to the wrist injuries and can't hit stage).

Don't worry though, all is well.. we have Paul Byrd and Josh Reddick on the way.

wow...from the spring and all is rosey in the nation because of the low cost gambles of old SP and RP.....to now with this we are doomed and the FO are certified fools......entertaining for sure.

Let me be clear, I still think they're going to be playing in October and I still think they're more equipped to win in the playoffs than the Yankees.

However, its still ****ing embarrassing to be in the middle of a pennant race and have John Smoltz pitching, the worst SS tandem in baseball and the immobile Mike Lowell at 3rd base with Billy freakin' Traber pitching mop-up innings.

Ok well what would you have done? I believe you didn't want to sign Teixeira this off season, so what would you have done? I agree none of Theo's FA signing have worked out but did you want to give a big contract to Oliver Perez or Lowe?

Shortstop has been a blackhole for this team since 2005, no doubt about it. But Lowrie was suppose to be our guy. I don't think you can blame Theo for Lowrie's injuries. Lowrie was checked out after the end of last season and the doctors said he didn't need surgery. He reinjuried himself at the end of March and ended up needing it. Injuries happen. If you want to get on Theo for maybe not trying to get Orlando Cabrera as insurance at the deadline, that's fair.

As for the Lee for Buchholz rumor, I highly doubt that was real.

You can't blame Theo for Lowell hurting his hip. Lowell was having a good '08year before he got hurt. If you want to say Theo shouldn't have resigned Lowell because of his age ok that's fair but who would they have gotten instead?

A lot of this stuff is pure 2nd guessing and a lot of it was really out of Theo's hands. Ramirez hasn't been as good lately but he helped a lot the first 2 months of the season, did you want Theo to keep Coco Crisp? If all we were counting on was Penny to be a 5th starter than it wasn't a bad signing, the problem is we're counting on Penny to be our #3 or #4.

You're right. I didn't want Teixeira, and I don't think that not having him has really hurt the team all that much. I have no idea what I would have done, but I'm not getting paid millions of dollars to make those decisions either. I'll tell you what I wouldn't have done... I wouldn't have signed TWO 40 year-olds, both of whom were coming off major surgery, and expected anything out of them (Smoltz and Saito).

I can absolutely blame Theo for counting on Jed to be "our" guy. He sucked last year, hell he's had 1 and a half good seasons in professional baseball, yet he's THE guy. Unbelievable.

He should have let Lowell walk after the WS. Giving an aging 3rd baseman 3 more years was simply a bad decision. There was a chance that the signing could have turned out OK, but when Lowell's hip went last year... that chance went out the window. He's a liability on this team for another 1 and a half seasons.

If you can't blame a GM for a team HE constructed, who the hell else can you blame? This is his team. This old group, that can't field and can't get anyone out now-a-days was Theo's creation. And you're telling me that I can't blame him? Get the hell out of here... that's garbage and you know it. And by the way, alot of this is absolutely 2nd guessing, but that doesn't mean he isn't responsible for the decisions he made regarding this roster.

Smoltz is going home to Atlanta, no word on why. Let the speculation begin.

Also Junichi Tazawa is in NY right now. Word is he's going to be put on the roster sometime today for either Lowrie or Smoltz. The Sox also claimed Chris Woodward, back up infielder from Seattle and DFAed Traber.

It's official Smoltz has been DFAed. Too bad. It would have been nice to see it work out but it's a business and he clearly can't help the team.

Hmmm, someone will pick him up. Feel bad for the guy. I'd say we take him back in Atlanta, but I don't think we need him, especially with Hudson about to come back.

I'm not sure he's better right now than anybody currently pitching in Atlanta so I doubt we see him again. There's no way he's starting in Atlanta because Kawakami even gives you a better chance despite his occassional struggles. It's a shame to see him drop off like this.

I don't know, he obviously can't go to another AL team. I guess I could see an NL team taking a shot like the Giants or Marlins with their big ballparks but I doubt it.

They have to do something with the fences in Yankee Stadium....if they don't want to lose a bunch of seats, maybe build the walls out of the plexiglass stuff they use at hockey rinks....you would still be able to watch the game through plexiglass.....just raise the walls..especially in right field by about 10 to 15 feet. Yankee Stadium makes Citizen's Bank Park seem like a band box. Yankees have the best record in baseball now...but there is still a couple months left.

Yes it did. You wonder why scouts say Bard might not handle pressure well. Go figure.

Horrible loss to a cap off an awful road trip. But hey good news we get to face the Tigers, Rangers, Blue Jays and Yankees in the next 2 weeks. Good times.

Wow, didnt think it was possible, but 4-8 is a whole lot sweeter than the 0-8 before this series. And the best record in baseball to boot....and of course 6.5 game lead.

Like I said I am afraid to play anyone right now. Now we have to play the Tigers and start off v.s. Edwin Jackson.

Worst part of the Yankees series is we wasted two great starts by Lester and Beckett.

And Buchholz finally pitched well too. That's the only positive this weekend. Beckett, Lester and Buchholz pitched well. It won't get talked about but Beckett and Lester did shut down the Yankees. If the Sox somehow get into the playoffs it's going to be a tough 1-2 punch to beat.

It really bugs me that we turned Andy Pettite into Sandy Koufax last night and that we couldn't get anything going against Burnett or Sabathia. The bats are clearly to blame.

Getting swept by the Yankees is bad enough. Getting swept in the fashion they did is downright embarrassing.

For whatever its worth (probably not a whole hell of alot), with any semblance of offense at all... we take 3 of 4.

Yeah the games were all pretty close. It's not like the Yankees blew us out, well besides Thursday, like in 2006 when we had no chance and it was at home. A clutch hit here or there and there's not panic right now.

We need to remember that the Sox are still a good team and we're tied for the Wild Card right now. The team has had a very bad week but it's baseball. People wanted to write off the Yankees in May and look what happened. Today is August 10th, there is a lot of baseball left to be played. I do think the East is lost but it's all about getting into the playoffs and we still have a very good chance to do it.

The next 2 weeks are going to be big for the Sox. The hitters really need to get going and someone other than Beckett and Lester need to step up and pitch well.

I think it's official, Delcarmen shouldn't get the ball unless the team is up by 6 runs or down by 6. I think I can count the times he got big outs in big spots on one hand during his 4 or 5 year career with the Sox.

FIGHT! Well kind of. Porcello is a moron. Tazawa wasn't trying to hit Cabrera in that spot. You throw at Martinez fine, but don't mess with Youkilis with your first pitch in the next inning. It also doesn't look good if you run off the mound after words. I also loved how Youkilis threw his helmet at Porcello too. Luckily no punches were thrown and no one got hurt, at least that's what it looked like. Edwin Jackson wanted to mix it up with someone though.

I'm sure Youk will earn at least a nice 3 game suspension for that. Although with the MLB offices I wouldn't be shocked if he's suspended for the year.

Well here's the Sox chance to maybe get back into the game.

EDIT: Maybe that 'fight' woke up the Red Sox.
