Cameron Wake not making waves http://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/thed...talking-points-cameron-wake-not-making-waves/
I dont see why this is such a big deal. Camron Wake is like a rookie. He is coming into the league for the first time in years. I think you will see in a few weeks that he will be up to speed and will be improved.
For some context, Omar K mentioned Tony McDaniel got owned by DMart, and our own on scene reporters said McD get's stood up too easily.
Good read, but all we read this time of year seems to be according to the eye of the beholder. (And what sells papers. )
Wait, you mean Wake isn't dominating like a beast? It's early, I wouldn't read too much into it, but I would also caution that Wake may not be the player that some think he is.
So far, it would be fair to say the only defensive player who is dominating is Mr. Dependable Will Allen, he is tearing up Traning Camp.
Again, it's too early IMO. I'll start to take these reports more seriously the closer we get to the start of the preseason games, and their performances in the games is even more important.
I've never bought into the theory that a guy can be a poor practice player and a great game day player. As an aside...3 preason games in 10 days...everyone will see the field a ton. But 3 games in 10 days is sort of Dolphin Fan Nirvana...
In a lot of training camp reports I have read that Cameron is making waves. He is getting pressures that leads to sacks. One thing I think media doesn't have enough appreciation for pressures
Wake isn't destroying everything in his way. he is a bust, we wasted money CFl players suck!!!111111 I dont see it as a big deal. he needs to adjust to t he speed of the game, and the faster, more agile linemen. he cant run around them for the sack anymore. he is still a freak of nature, lets just hope he will learn couple of more moves in the offseason, and progress as a pass rusher. personally, im expecting 5 sacks out of the guy this year. thats my "goal' for him in my mind. if he comes in, and gets five sacks his first year in the NFL, he will be well on his way. if you mean that he won't come in and get 39 sacks in two years, yeah, I think its safe to say that
Nope, that's an easy bet to take. I'm saying that Wake may be nothing more than a backup or special teams player, but it's too early to tell what we have at this point. I've made the argument that we should be cautious, the CFL isn't anywhere near the NFL in talent, speed, toughness, etc and it's going to be hard for any CFL player to come in and be effective. Others have him penciled in for a set number of sacks and are talking him up based solely on CFL highlights, that's a flawed way to evaluate the player and any prediction of success is going to be wrong.
Exactly. Its like judging Qb by his college career *cough, Sanchez, cough* With that being said, CFl is a bit different from NCAA, people coming out of college can still grow, physically, cam is 27, and we all know what shape he is in, and what he looks like, and he might "tweak" his lifgting technique under these guys, physicality wise, we have a finished product, imo. Not its matter of polishing the skill that he has, the physicall atributes, and doing something with it. How good of a studetn he is will make or break his NFL career, imo.
You sure about that? He had a bad first day and has been getting better every day. From Omar Kelly 8 min ago.... OmarKelly Cameron Wake would have had a sack on Pat White late in team drills. Wake getting decent amount of pressure working with 2nd and 3rd 8 minutes ago from TwitterBerry
well with so much going on at the practices it would be hard to watch just one portion. what i'm saying is has the reporter watched wake take every rep or is it a glance at wake once or twice a day and see him do nothing?
Well, keep in mind we are planning on having an exotic pass rushing package, with 4 downlineman and 6 or 7 Db's, you need backups like Wake and say Walden who can sub for JT and JP and keep the pressure on.
Wake is a freak of nature he is a beast & lives football 24/7 Bill Parcells didn't bring him in on a lark he will explode in his NFL debut onto the field your package will include: Joey, Cameron & Jason going after the QB in a Triad of Terror not to be concerned about Wake, he'll make his bones within the first four games the pass rush will be awesome!
Oh...Here is more from Omar Kelly after todays afternoon session: "Each session at camp outside linebacker Cameron Wake, and rookie receiver Patrick Turner are improving. Since the pads have come on Wake has been the only player (including Joey Porter) who is consistently applying pressure. With that said, please do remember that Porter is going against Jake Long, a Pro Bowler, and Wake is going against Nate Garner and Andrew Gardner. But pressure is pressure. "He's a rookie over in this league, but you can tell he's got a knack for the game," Porter said of Wake. During the final session of Thursday's afternoon practice Wake killed Chad Henne's drive by tallying two straight would-be sacks during the team's 2-minute drill. He rose to the occasion when his second-team defense needed him the most. That's exactly what the Dolphins need to see." THAT IS WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT!!!!
Nolephin said the same thing, and that is the first time I've heard JP praise any of the backups once TC began. I think what has happened is the Staff has asked Wake to lose some weight and get down to his weight level in his first year in the CFL, (in my very very humble opinion) they are trying to make Cam Wake pretty much a speed rusher, instead of gaining weight to 260, i'd bet Wake is down to about 245 or so to maximize his quickness. Can't wait until the preseason begins and get to watch Wake turn the jets on around the corner...
What the media needs to understand besides the NFL adjustment, the offensive line he is going against is no joke of an OLine. He will get some on and off the field coaching, and will be a lot better for practicing against the likes of our OLine. Keep the Faith!
UPDATE.... Wake's waking up, Turner turning heads http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sport.../08/wakes-waking-up-turner-turning-heads.html
Ummmm...did you not read this 3 posts above? LOL http://forums.thephins.com/showthread.php?p=790553#poststop
the Triad of Terror: J.Porter, J.Taylor and C.Wake will be the scourge of NFL QB's in 2009 better learn to dance GoFish!
I think it won't be long until Wake gets some reps with the first team, as long as he continues to get comfortable and make plays on the second team unit
Wake has really blossemed since the pads went on, he had a sack and penetrated the back field enough to tip a swing pass from White today. He has started beating every back up Tackle consistently now, he wil have to have some first team reps against Long and Carey.
BTW, if anyone wants some inside type info, check out the Channing Crowder interview on WQAM, JT's role is discussed (interesting stuff, JT will be lining up everywhere..DE/OLB/ILB) and Channing talks about Cam Wake. Mental stuff is taking some time, but his physical skills, like speed rushing, are "he is a raw talent, he is just amazing, he is quick and he has 3% body fat, he is just a raw talent" and will see the field during games in some packages. http://wqam.com/index.php?page=347&sid=pktvhpmhl2u3gmmiksocmjj7evu4kl07 Funny thing is, as Crowder is being interviewed, Wake has back to back sacks in the background...
the man is a Beast he is Mr, Football 24/7 the SackMaster & will terrorize NFL QB's the Triad of Terror: Porter, Taylor Wake
Well, Wake is using an alias, Taylor left town under a cloud last year, and Porter was fired at his last job... I've made a study of (Derek) Cameron Wake, I try to pick one player a season to learn as much as possible about (Jason Allen, Donald Thomas were the last two) and his TC success does not surprise me, It would not surprise me if he tears up a couple of preseason games as well. To use a baseball metaphor, Wake can throw a fastball, that was never a question, it is what is left in his bag of tricks that makes the difference as the very very few pure speed rushers who made an impact in the NFL were even more physically gifted than Wake. D Freeney for example ran a mind blowing 4.4 40 at 266 pds, Jevon Kearse ran a 4.4 40 at 250, Wake is athletic and according to C Crowder "strong as hell" as well as "really quick"..but he doesn't have that top notch speed of a Freeney or a Derrick Thomas. What Wake does have is top tier, not elite, speed. And freakishly long arms, but until we see him going up against Big Jake and Vern C, we don't know what we've got as of yet. I do think Cameron Wake is going to embarass some lower tier tackles in the preseason though, his "new" bar is Wally Ogenulye, it took him a single game of unstoppable awesomeness for it to become clear to everyone he was a player. I've commented that Wake will eventually have to make short work of the bottom of the roster tackles before anyone can say Cam Wake is ready for the NFL..he's done that much, but still, Andy Gardner in day 2 of TC is the sort of Tackle a guy like Cam Wake eats alive...he's done that...ditto Nate Gardner...ditto Ike Ndukwe...the only tackles left on the food chain are Jake Long and Vern Carey. And everyone should keep in mind JT v VC is pretty much a stalemate, if CWake beats VC...we have something.
