Thanks FFiC nice read here on one of our biggest needs entering this draft. I really like the idea of jake long on this team because its such a big need for us, but I just dont know if I can justify the first overall pick on him...
I'm warming up to Gosder Cherilus at #32. Anybody with me????? Of course I'd be happy with a higher rated OL falling to us (who does Chi have in mocks? If it's OL and they go RB maybe we get lucky). If we go Long/Dorsey at #1, a CB or RT at 32 would make me happy.
Im with ya Im pretty locked in on Chris Long with the number 1 pick, anything else and i'll be shattered....well maybe not shattered. With that said, with the next 2 picks i would love to go Oline, BUT ONLY IF THE VALUE IS THERE, and I really dont see a problem with drafting a good T prospect in Cherilous, even if he only turns out to be a RT I'd be ok with it because last time I checked we had a left tackle. I just want the best player on our team, RB, to have a good crew in front of him and as of now it just isnt there. The main problem with this is value. If an Antoine Cason or a Dan Connor is available, I would be pretty hard pressed to pass them up, but in the end I feel we absolutely need to draft 2 OL in the first 4 rounds.
Well it's almost a certainty that we'll draft an OT with one of our 1st 2 picks, isn't it? That's what I believe, anyway. We've signed one OG, period. That might be fine if we hadn't cut or let walk so many others. So, I guess it would be safe to assume that if we pass on Jake Long, then we would draft the top remaining OT once our 2nd pick comes up. Unless Brandon Albert was still available. Right? Does anyone think there is much of a chance that we draft 2 OL within our first 3 picks ?
I think theres a definite chance of that happening, its personally what I would like to happen, but I wouldnt put money on it. There is going to be some serious talent at 32, it kinda makes me giddy. Someone good will fall into our laps, but will we pull the trigger? or will we go with the best OL available? I can only hope the BPA is an OL, but I just dont see that happening. I've been salivating over the idea of Albert falling to 32, but i think its time to wipe my mouth and move on if ya know what i mean. One thing I will say though is this: trading JT would open things up sooo much for us in this draft. If we could get another 2nd, we could essentially go BPA with at least 3 of the first 4 picks, making sure at least one is OL. I know people throw BPA around like crazy, but this team is so starved for talent that BPA is actually realistic, the only position I really rule out is RB, at least until about the 6th round. Sorry sorta got off topic there...
