Don Shula was recently overseas visiting troops. My good friend is over there. I got a box in the mail today from him. It is filled with some crazy nick nacks, a weird looking alarm clock, and ...............an AUTOGRAPHED DON SHULA FOOTBALL with a picture of the Don and my buddy.
That's great. Your so lucky. Leave it to "the man" to take time to go over there. I've always respected and admired him, this is just an added bonus for me.
I'll try to do that when I get home from work. I haven't seen it yet. My wife called me and told me about the box and its contents.
wow, to think you have a friend who, while deployed, thought so much of you that they took the time and went to the effort to get that autographed ball and send it to you speaks volumes about both of you, and the kind of people you both are. this person obviously thinks alot of you. very cool story. i am sure you will display the ball in a place of honor. i hope your friend returns home soon, safe and sound, and that you and he can get to a game together this season!
Whether a Chiefs fan or any other team, he's probably a football fan at heart. As football fans, we all know our history and to be able to meet a part of NFL history is a blessing. It's cool that he's able to share a part of that meeting with you! On a lighter side, I hope he didn't send the ball and photo to you to "rub it in" that he met Shula... and when he returns, he takes it back and tells you he just sent it to you for safekeeping.
I got home and read the letter. It is a ball that an elementary school class sent to my good friend. They all painted it in our country colors. The kids wrote "united we stand" Below it is "Don Shula H.O.F. 97" The alarm clock is about the funniest thing ever. It is the "Mosque Azan alarm clock" It plays the azan prayer in a really annoying way when the alarm goes off. I'll shoot some pictures but I'm probably too ******ed to figure out how to get them on here.
side 1 http://s684.photobucket.com/albums/vv205/huck1974/?action=view¤t=football002.jpg still didn't do it right. That is side one.
Shula personalizes football as it should be, rolled into a package of pure character. Any time he shows up anywhere, the sport looks good. What a tremendous human being.
Tell your buddy that I meet Don Shula in 1981 before a game in Kansas City BTW, the Dolphins won also
Somewhere in my room, my Larry Csonka autographed pennant is crying in jealously! Seriously man, congrats! That is sweet!
