The Haunting in Connecticut -- Better than I thought it would be. Some genuine creepiness. Best viewed not as an adaptation of a true story, but just a ghost tale.

I just watched "My Name is Bruce" With B movie legend Bruce Campbell oh and this girl..

    yow.

It was solid cheese. Entertaining for what is was a movie that didn't take itself too seriously. If you like Bruce Campbell you'll like this one.

Watched 'From Hell' on IFC tonight. Stars Johnny Depp & Heather Graham, it's about the Jack the Ripper theory. I like reading about unsolved history, so I thought it was a pretty interesting movie.

What did you think about the ending? I like the theory they put forth as many people believe that to be the case and the only way it could've gone unsolved.

I could barely stay awake for the theater's 12 hour version of the movie, I can't imagine the torment a 'Director's Cut' would bring.

Well my fiance didn't want to watch the Watchmen last night because it was too long (and too later for a long movie after the FF draft), so we watched Quantum of Solace. I really liked it. I guess I expected a lot worse since I had heard so many complaints. But I thought it was a very good sequel.

Just watched Defiance today with my family. It was a great movie. My grandpa was in that same situation when he was 10 and had to escape Poland, so it was interesting seeing the movie, especially with my mom and my grandma. I dont know if they actually fought anyone, but I know that they had to travel through the forests at night all throughout the East which was occupied by the Soviets, and then they took a ship to South America. He reached Uruguay when he was 13. So pretty much, my whole grandpas childhood was ****ed up so it was interesting to see this movie.

Saw a lot of movies recently:

Watched Mad Max for the first time. Good movie, but it didn't have the PA feel of The Road Warrior that I really enjoyed.

A Fish Called Wanda: Excellent, excellent movie. John Cleese and Michael Palin post-Python show they still have it, Kevin Kline plays the ugly American perfectly, and Jamie Lee Curtis is hot as Hell. Better than I remembered.

From Hell: Very good movie about the Jack the Ripper killings coupled with a very plausible conspiracy theory. I definitely recommend it.

Stand By Me: Easily one of the best Stephen King movie adaptations ever. While not quite in the same league as The Shawshank Redemption or The Green Mile this movie blows away most of the others by a wide margin.

...and finally Orphan: Just saw this one tonight and I heartily recommend it as a psychological thriller... One tip: Avoid reading any of the spoilers... One of the best parts is trying to figure out the "secret" Esther is hiding. Lots of OMG inducing thrills and even an "ewwww!" inducing scene... (Well, a couple of those, but one more than the other... ;))

I saw a movie called Borderland last night, part of the After Dark Horrorfest. Great movie, torture-porn style. Shades of Hostel and Touristas can be seen in the movie.

the Watchmen (Director's Cut) - I loved it. Thought the story was real good, and the visuals and audio were great. My fiance did not like it however, it was too gruesome for here. And I don't see how many people complained about the "glowing blue wang" either, I found it to be barely noticeable, and it was in very few scenes. Sounds like there were just a bunch of homophobes and/or sexually repressed people that saw the movie.

Defiance: Although I am tiring a tad of the genre of movie, it seems to be pretty popular right now, this was a excellent movie.

Ms. March: I had little hope for this movie, but it was hilarious. So not kid friendly...but it is a good laugh flick.

Even though I love Daniel Craig and Liev Schrieber, I just couldn't get through this movie. The pace was just awful for me.

On to my most recent selections:

Valkyrie: Liked this a whole lot more than I thought I might. Brilliantly paced with a slew of my favorite actors in good performances. I knew there had been attempts on Hitler's life, but I never knew there was anything this well organized and broad. Highly recommended. Also, the Blu Ray looks and sounds magnificent and is chock full of interesting special features.

Body of Lies: Again, based on the reviews I read, I had managed expectations for this one, but it held my interest. I don't know how long it will stick with me.

If you liked Valkyrie, you'll love 'The Plot to Kill Hitler' off which it is based. I think it came out late 60's early 70's IINM. Great film.

EDIT: Yikes, I musta been thinking of a different film. The Plot to Kill Hitler was a TV movie that came out in 1990. Still worth watching though.
