Thanks Jimmy. If we're successful, I'm stopping on our way to home to pick up a bottle of red wine to celebrate.
Thank you my friend. Got a late start this morning - leaving in a few. Watch the Dolphins punish the Jets (the 12/28/08 game) for me while I'm gone. Also, as an aside Chris bought a pick 4 lottery ticket last night for the first time. His numbers were 6482 for almost $5 grand. Guess what came up? 6483. Anyone see this as a sign of something?
Edit: Well, that was a complete and utter waste of time. Apparently, the courts offer relief to "renters", not former owners, so no-one there can help. The lady was nice but said the judge would "likely laugh us out of court" as we've had "plenty of time to find adequate housing since the bank bought the house back in February."
It's okay Jimmy - I'm not going to give up. I have a little leeway as of last night, after speaking with mom in law about Megs. She's from Jersey but lives in CA but she has lots and lots of friends and connections here. She told me as God is her witness, we will never live in the streets. That said, she's going to spring, initially, for us to stay at a long-term stay hotel and then maybe house hop to these friends and connections until such time as we find somewhere on our own and she's going to pay for our storage area to put all our furniture and belongings in. Chris is out right now finding one.
Very glad this resource is available to you and yours Mary. As much bad has happened with the current house, I think this could very well end being a blessing in disguise. Time for you guys to start with a clean slate and move forward. On the bright side, Megs has the opportunity to see Cali some more and broaden her horizons. You and Chris get to re-evaluate the situation and move forward. Remember, as has been mentioned several times in here, you are far from being alone in this situation. Many people are in a similar situation in these trying times Continued prayers coming from me of course
Initially it wasn't Kenny because me and mom in law were on the outs for a long, long time. Just recently though we mended fences and are speaking again and so she's going to help us out again. However, the past 3 summers, though we weren't speaking, I still allowed Megs to go visit her because I want her to be close to her grandparents. Mine all died when I was very, very young and it was hard growing up without them. Thank you my friend.
This is the time to rely on the help from friends and family. I had to bite the bullet recently and ask my dad for help financially. As awful as I feared it would be, it was relatively painless. This situation will strengthen the family bonds and bring you all closer.
Another update folks. Couldn't sleep very well last night so I woke up very early and started doing some research on the Essex County court system. I found a link to the Chancery Division which, among other things, handles "Emergent Applications for Stay of Sheriff's Eviction." I printed and we went as soon as they opened. The woman there read the eviction letter and said "This is not your official eviction notice. See at the top where it says first letter? You receive a total of 3 letters, spaced several weeks apart. The 3rd one will be the official one and will have a date where you need to vacate the premises." Further, she said "once you receive the 3rd letter come back here and I'll help you fill out the application for a stay of up to six months." And she said that they're usually approved. So, we have some time to play around with packing and getting everything into storage and getting the extended stay hotel. I breathed such a sigh of relief. Thanks everyone for the continued good luck.
Thanks everyone - I'm just thrilled but I had a panic attack when I woke up this morning looking at all the stuff I needed to pack from 3 floors of furniture, clothes, books, dishes, etc., so I said to myself "there has to be another way" and got to doing the research. Chris woke up at 4:30 and said "what the bleep are you doing awake?" But it was worth it. At this point, it's not try and save the home, it's try to buy more time to pack and get everything stored. Megs leaves for CA on Tuesday at 7:30 to have a well-deserved fun summer vacation.
Stay strong Mary...and keep fighting. That whole "what doesn't kill you thing", ya know? Still sending those positive energies...wish I could do more.
Prayers for a winning lottery ticket Mary (always pick the numbers of your favorite dolphins players) If I had the money to give you, you would absolutely have had it by now. Anything I can do to help, just let me know.
