Sell high. he has no lineup support to speak of especially now that Hairston was dealt. Sorry Pads fans

Ya I was surprised at that also. Especially when dealing with Beane you know you probably didnt get the better end of things.

Beane doesn't ALWAYS get the better end of trades. Case in point: Milton Bradley for Andre Ethier...

Supposedly the Padres are going to get a good Triple A pitcher to be named later.

Do not shoot the messenger. Listening to local radio today the Padres might not be done trading vets. If they are looking to dump salary, Heath Bell, Adrian Gonzalez, and Brian Giles could be looked at. Darren Smith called the Padres the Pirates on the West Coast. Giles should of never been signed this year. There are a lot of fans here that are not very happy with the teams trade of Scott Hariston, and the front office. Could be even more empty seats in the stadium. I wish Scott the very best in Oakland. He was a class act here.

Now 17-17 against lefties, the Padres' chances against left-handers could become more difficult after the trade of Scott Hairston to Oakland. Hairston was hitting .360 against left-handers with a .435 on-base percentage.
Overall, the Padres are hitting just .231 against left-handed pitching. Take Hairston out of the formula and that drops to .227.

Bro the new ownership can't do too much right now because they don't have full control of the club yet. John Moores is going through a costly divorce right now. Troy Aikman is one of the new owners, and I have heard him say he is up for spending money when it is needed. He said if you don't spend money wisely you won't have anyone in the seats.

It really sucks for the new management coming in is that our drafts and developement of players has been very bad. I look for more house cleaning in the future in the organization. Grady Fusion who is in charge of the farm system needs to be gone in my book. There is only so many holes you can patch at one time, as us Dolphin fans know.

Moore said the same sorts of things when he took over though.

As long as Sandy Alderson is shown the door I'll be happy.

We seem to be able to spot younger talent, but unfortunately, it is mostly pitching talent, and it is mostly in other organizations and that puts us behind the 8 ball as just when they develop, we ship them out of SD.

Didn't A Gone and Bell come from the Marlins?

I don't like Alderson either. His baseball philosophy stinks for Petco Park. Bell from the Mets, Gonzalez from the Rangers.

Not really. It makes perfect sense when you think about it. the pads can lose just as many games without A Gone and Bell. They dont need those guys to finish last and by the time they get good again those guys may have passed peak value which is now before they sign big contracts. In the meantime the Pads can re-load the farm and get some good prospects for their two best assets. A Gone should bring a decent haul of 2 top flight guys and a 1-2 more B prospects. Hes a legit 35-110 player and in a lineup with more support he should be around 290BA/400OBP/950OPS

If I were the Padres GM I'd ship Heath Bell out yesterday. The guy is having a career year and his value will never be higher. With so many teams still in playoff races (I believe 22 of the 30 teams are close) and about 20 of those 22 teams could really use another reliever the Padres would probably get a pretty good package for him.

As for AGon, I'd only deal him if they could back a huge package for him. He's still very cheap even for SD so there's no rush to deal him.

But anyone not named Gonzalez would be on the block if I were running things.

We are not even at the All Star break yet Bro.

    My prediction is...pain...

This team is as bad as the late 80's models with Jimmie Jones and Stanley Jefferson, only back then we had some prospects playing, this team is essentially a veteran one....

Gonzalez wants to stay, but ...

First baseman understands trading him could fill holes, and he longs to be on a winner

Indeed, if he also were the club's general manager, Adrian Gonzalez might trade himself.
“To a certain extent, I don't disagree with people who say the best thing for the Padres is to go out and get a bunch of people for me,” said Gonzalez. “If you're looking at it from an ownership standpoint, I think there's a lot to it, just because of where the team is and everything.
“Would I want to be traded? No. Is it to a team that has a chance to win the World Series? I'd have to be intrigued by it. Know what I mean?

I really like Adrian a lot, but for him and the team it would be best to get him to a contender. This organization, and the farm system are a disaster right now. This organization needs a severe house cleaning.

Padres drop 13 from front office

“The Padres are getting leaner and meaner, doing everything they can to create additional resources to put into the product on the field,” Moorad said before leaving to join the team in Washington this weekend. “We needed a greater focus, more tunnel-vision focus on revenue. To be fair, the national economy has had an impact and made it more challenging.”

Among the 50 home games they've played – more than half of them losses – the Padres have drawn the 14 smallest crowds in Petco Park history. With an average crowd of around 24,000, the Padres are on pace to draw under two million fans for the first time since the strike-shortened 1995 season, and they've never finished below 2.4 million since Petco Park opened in 2004.
Clearly, ticket sales and performance in business partnerships figured into the dismissals. Also fired were the directors of marketing, corporate communications and business public relations.

PADRES: Err apparent: Padres must reverse their mistake-ridden draft history if the franchise fortunes are to improve

That's why a team like the Padres, choosing third in the amateur draft in 1982, picked Texas prep pitching star Jimmy Jones and passed on Dwight Gooden.

It's why, picking eighth in 1991, the Padres took pitcher Joey Hamilton when Shawn Green and Manny Ramirez were on the board.

It's why the Padres grabbed catcher Ben Davis with the second pick in 1995 when they could have had Kerry Wood or Todd Helton.

They have a two page spread in the paper from 1969 to current drafts. If any baseball organization wants to learn how to draft right, just do the opposite of the San Diego Padres, and you will be successful. Look at some of the horrible picks above.:nutkick: Hopefully this off season the sweeping changes continue.

Don't passover Burroughs, I watched him pitch in the little league WS he was awesome but he just stunk up the place when he finally arrived in San Diego.

They really need to fire the whole sorry lot of Scouts and Developmental Staff, just clear the decks and be done with it, there is no way that many draftees have elbow issues and they don't fix the problem.

Here is more Brother Padre that is not in teh internet article.

    Worst first overall picks

    2. Matt Bush SS 2004 by the Padres

Best Drafts over the last 10 Years

    26. San Diego Padres 468 picks, 33 players to majors.

The Padres will keep or even go cheaper on payroll, they must get the very utmost out of the draft. I think that GM Kevin Towers shouldn't have anything to do with the draft if he stays, scouting director Bill "Chief" Gayton, and Farm Director Grady Fusion should be gone. These three have been together since 2006. Gayton and Towers go back to 2001.

The odd thing is, at one time I can recall San Diego always having some good, inhouse players they developed like the Alomar's and Shane Mack and McReynolds, now they are just barren.

Those scouts have to go, if they cut payroll they should plow some of the savings back into the Farm System and hiring people who have a better eye for talent.

Another problem is they believed to to draft college kids, and stay away from Boras players. That right there has killed us in the past. They have always tried to draft the cheaper players. If we are not going to spend the money later, we mine as well do our very best homework, and spend it up front.:wink2:

Well, a good scout also can detect flaws in a pitchers deliveries that lead to injuries down the road, to me it's like they don't bother studying pitching mechanics and just take the guy who throws the hardest or whatever.

I can see drafting College players as they are more developed and if they pan out you have them for 5 or 6 years, but when they fail time after time someone has to be held accountable for those poor results.

    MLB Trade Rumors

The reports are the Dodgers are making runs at Adrian Gonzalez, and Heath Bell. Darren Smith just passed this out on XX 1090. I just thought I would pass this along. Red Sox are supposed to be interested in Adrian as well.
