Jeez, like it's not a blatant ripoff of the color design on his most famous guitar. Link and picture below.

"Guitarist Eddie Van Halen filed a lawsuit against Nike in Los Angeles Friday, alleging the company used the trademarked striped design from his guitar on their new line of “Dunk Lows” tennis shoes.

The Nike shoes feature red, white and black streaks along the midsole.

The suit states that Van Halen received a 2001 copyright for the design on the body of his “Frankenstein” electric guitar."

Yeah, everybody's suiing each other these days. I guess being a fan, to me it's just way too obvious not to call 'em out on it.

I'm pretty sure, trademarks are for specific products. I don't see how he'd have a case, quite frankly, unless he bought the trademark to use that specifically on shoes. Even then, you can't trademark "red", "black", "white", etc. And you can only trademark a specific design/pattern. So unless EVH, trademarked specific Pantone colors and an exact pattern, and Nike isn't using those, then I don't see how he'll win.

Yeah, he doesn't own colors or random designs. If that were the case, Jackson Pollack should starting suing the **** out of everybody!

He trademarked the design pattern in 2001. Nobody else has really used a red background w/ white and black stripes like that but Ed.

I understand, but unless they're using his design specifically, and the exact colors he using, I don't think he's gonna win. Nike may settle to keep out of courts, but I don't think he'd win in front of a judge.
