I'm posting for my girlfriend. She asked me if I knew how to help her out and I thought of you guys. Shes about 5 ft 3 and constantly complains about her big butt. She goes to the gym 3-4 days a week and rides the olypitcal and does squats. Eats a lot of chicken, fish, you know things with protien, and still she says she has no muscle mass. And cant loose her but or love handles. She is always saying how she could go down a pant size if she was able to lose that. Please help. this would make her feel better about herself and would make me feel good to help her. ( eventhough i think shes perfect)
You're pretty right on. You can't spot reduce fat. Meaning, you can't say "Ok, I'm gonna lose weight in this area specifically." It just doesn't work like that. You need to work on losing weight in general and eventually you'll hit those areas. Love handles are one of those "first to arrive, last to leave areas" so it'll take awhile to get rid of them. As far as what she should do. Diet-wise, cut out as many carbs as possible and keep up the protein. Drinking a ton of water is also a necessity. For wo's, tell her to do a lot of intense weight training if she wants to lose weight and gain a little muscle mass. Meaning, keep doing the squats and other weights, just cut the recovery time between sets down to 60-90 secs. Cardio is still good, but the intense weight training should make a diff. Eating that little cookie makes a difference? Hell, I'm glad I'm not 150 lbs b/c if I was, I apparently would only be able to eat a few Ritz crackers and a shot of tap water.
dont let her get rid of her big butt. help her embrace it...thats what i would do! those things are awesome!
There is no more complete exercise than swimming every day.I keep in shape that way .It reduces fat all over your body and you dont gain weight due to the muscle mass acquired.
i agree with the swimming bit. my mom had physical therapy for years and they would always, always make her swim. i want an indoor heated pool.
I swim whether its cold or not.No heated pools in my neighborhood .Its all a state of mind .I think about the laps I have to make and not the temperature.
Well running and lifting weights reduce fat all over your body as well... Spot reducing is a myth, you can't reduce fat in one area. If you could, then those ab belts would have made it beyond one year....
I agree with the idea that you can't spot reduce, but beyond that pilates or dancer workouts seem to focus on the body shape she seeks. The other thing I've read recently is that certain things in her diet might give a boost to fat burning. Vitamin C: It doesn't burn fat itself, but apparently the body struggles to burn fat when it's low in vitamin C. Water: A hydrated body is more efficient and the fuller feeling keeps you from snacking. Cinnamon and spicy foods: They tend to raise your metabolism and burn a few extra calories in the hours after ingestion.
