I'm looking for some help here. I have never, until this year gotten involved in a Fantasy Football League. Some of my in-laws have been doing it for awhile and are starting their own league this season. So I've decided to join, too. Anyway, I would appreciate any helpful hints, advice, whatever, concerning strategies, etc. Thanks folks.
Well.... I don't have that info yet. To be honest I don't think they've got all of that settled themselves. What I do know is the plan is for each team to start 1 QB; 2 RBs; 3WRs; 1 TE; 1 Kicker and 1 team's defense. I'm not sure how many rounds in the draft - I don't think that's settled yet, either. I'll just have to keep you posted on the rest.
the most important scoring settings are PPR (points per reception), and PASSING TD. In a PPR league, RBs like Reggie Bush are extremely valuable because of their receiving stats. In a non-PPR league, Bush is worthless. If a passing TD is worth 6 points in your league, then you should make the QB position a higher priority because theres only so many 30+TD QBs. If passing TDs are only worth 4 points, then consider beefing up your RBs and WRs before drafting a QB. You should alos take into account negative points for turnovers. If you dont get deducted for throwing INTs, then guys like Kitna are more valuable and available late in the draft most times. Dont draft a kicker, AT ALL. Its tempting. But you should wait until right before week 1, and cut your worst player, and add a kicker from an offense that settles for 3 a lot.
Also, as nerdy as it sounds. One of the best things you can do is a bunch of mock drafts online. Gives you an idea of where people will go and the type of teams you can build. A lot of the sites run them.
Another couple of things to add: -Don't get overexcited with rookies... yes, its great that the team has new weapons but very rarely do rookies make much of an impact, other than RBs. -Do not be a homer. We all love the Dolphins but that doesn't mean that you should over value any fin or take half of the roster in your draft. Most of the time, it is better to spread out your players so you are not reliant on a single game for a majority of your points -Watch your bye weeks when you draft. Try, if possible, to alternate your bye weeks so you are not left with a devastating hit during a common bye week. -Draft for value and not for position. You may need a certain position (i.e.QB) but if a much player is available at a different position (RB, WR) while your needed positions are mediocre, don't force the pick (of QB).
If your league is 6 points for any TD, then don't over-value QBs. You can still find a solid QB in the late rounds (there's plenty to go around) and you could spend those early picks on more important positions like RB or WR.
Most things have been said but one thing that wasn't mentioned is is it a live draft or is it going to be a automated draft? Also if it is a live draft try to pick in the middle of the group (5th or 6th in a 10 or 12 man FFLeague) The reason of this is because you're more likely to pick up 2 1st rounders or at least a 1st rounder and a High 2nd. As opposed to if you're the 1st pick overall you're going to get the best player but then you dont get to pick again till the last pick of round 2/1st pick of round 3. or opposed to picking last where you get pretty much 2 high 2nd rounders or 2 low round 1 players. All of that i guess is pretty self preference but it guides me well.
I prefer picking in the middle or late but have never been in a draft where i have any say in where i draft
