It's fine man, its only a part-time job to get some extra money. I am actually going to UCF and am majoring in Business then plan of going to Dental School after that; so its not like I am a career Publix guy. That being said the thought has crossed my mind before, as Store Managers make about $100,000 a year.
You hit the nail on the head... I would thank you like 10 times if I could lol. That muzak and the management really gets me in that work funk. It was even worse yesterday because I was subing in for a full-time stock clerk and was being monitored like crazy and it was only my 3rd day back at this store (I just transfered back to this Publix from one by UCF).

Or how about being a cart wrangler at home depot, or movie/music guy at circuit city, or working in a ice house (where you never saw chicks), or as a chemist assistant (also where you never saw chicks, let alone people your age).
1) I worked with nothing but guys. 2) I worked with nothing but guys and had to wear what looked like a janitors outfit. 3) I worked for mimimum wage. I win

Oh no you don't. I worked at Crane Cams. Its a factory that makes cam shafts. My job was the very first stage of the cam shaft. Metal bars thicker than a soda can and about 30 ft long, out in the Daytona sun during summer. Roll them down one by one to a conveyor belt that brought them through a hole in the wall. Then, I had to run inside, and use this giant band saw to cut the bar into about 3-4 foot pieces. As one is cut, you pick it up (around 30lbs.), turn around and put it on another machine that drills indentations on the ends. After one is cut and drilled, you are covered in hot metal dust. After every 5 th one, you have to shut everything down, and quality check one. That means clamping it to spindles and spinning the bar while gauges tell you if the holes are centered. One fell off and broke my thumb. They put me on light duty. First couple of weeks they gave me a metal file and sat me in room. My chair was in between a 55 gallon drum and a table that had a pile of freshly machined nuts. The pile was about 10 feet wide and three feet tall. I had to inspect each one, and if it had a bur, then I knocked it off with the file, and threw it into the drum. That part of my job ended. Then I had to count bolts. 15 bolts a bag, 50 bags a box. All of this was 8 hours a day. I lived an hour away and had to be there by 7:00 am. It was during the summer before my senior year. I was the youngest person there by 10 years. There were no women. No windows. And all the guys were rednecks.
I had a similar job at a calphelon distribution center (at 18, and was youngest there by 10 years), but I was thankful it was only a temp job. 10 hrs a day and I too lived an hour away. This particular job lasted 12 days. Had it been any longer I would have quit. They wanted me to come back. **** that. It was so hot I lost 10lbs a day (obviously mostly water weight). But I really had no life those days. I was either too tired or really had no time to do anything else but eat, sleep, and work.
Hmm... working in a computer lab aiding students with multimedia software like Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Sony Vegas, etc.... And when the lab is dead, I'm on ThePhins. My job is awesome.

Don't feel bad dude everyone freezes up (including women). I've got a track record of really hot GF's but I honestly haven't picked any of them up in such a situation. I usually don't ask girls out unless I know them pretty well. Not for fear of being turned down but because I'm highly critical and have to make sure someones worth my time before I put an time and effort into trying o impress them. Perhaps your the same, maybe you're just shy. It's good that you recognized a missed opportunity and can work to correct it.
I used to die cut fiberglass for a living. Imagine a shop that is snowing, coating yourself in baby powder to make sure the fibers don't get under your skin. I forgot to mention 120 degrees. I build dies. Soft bunch here.
