I have memberships in some other teams fan forums. If they do consider the dolphins they only talk about the Wildcat and how we won with a gimmick offense. Patriots fans are dismissing the rest of their division and talking about a superbowl run. Jets fans are talking about Mark Sanchez and how their offense is going to rock this year. Bills fans have their own worries but don't seem to be concerned about Miami. Even so called experts when they talk about our team only seem to talk about Pat White and the Wildcat. No one seems to fear our offense, They dismiss our WR's as some of the worst in the league. They don't seem concerned about our running game. No one talks about our defense or recognizes all the secondary talent we acquired this year. Everyone seems to be writing off our team as a fluke and I think we really hit it big in the draft. Especially with Vontae Davis, Sean Smith and Chris Clemons. We swept Buffalo and split with New England and New York last year and I think our team this year is going to be much better. It just seems to be the season hasn't started yet and everyone assumes the Patriots are going to the superbowl and seem to be dismissing us already. Anyway that's my thoughts on it. Why do you think we're not getting any respect?
We're getting the coverage that made sense. The wildcat to national eyes made miami relevant again because no one had seen anything like it used so extensively on the pro level for quite some time. Matt Ryan and the offense get a lot of similar credit down in ATL because their offense is what carried their team. And everone loves a QB turn around the franchise that was previously lacking a quarterback due to dog fighting charges story.. With the return of brady people are going "patriots = superbowl" automatically. What they fail to realize is that he hasn't played for a whole year. Or maybe they do realize it they just forget to think about it. Their defense looks good on paper. Mark Sanchez has no NFL experience and their WR corps is worse than ours IMO. The bills I think have gotten quite a decent bit better. I don't think they'll be the punching bag in the division. re corners, safety, etc. I think we got good picks there too. If we come out of the other side of this year with a winning record we'll have respect. It's not who you play it's when you play them. Line'em up.
Good. Just the way I like it. You know what the funny part is? When we will continue on winning, everybody will be like, "Yeah, Parcells is the man, everybody knew they only going to get better, had a great draft" and so on...If we do take a step back, everybody will jump on us with the "I told ya!"
I think that is an improvement over last preseason Xeticus...last season they had the dirt thrown on our season's grave, according to "them" we would be lucky to win 3 games.. Don Thomas, Cam Wake, Vontae Davis and Sean Smith are all upgrades, but the rest of fandom has never heard of them...
It's just kind of annoying when you go from 1-15 to 11-5 and no takes you seriously. Even when we were 1-15 we were a better team than our record showed. It was bad coaching and drafting that doomed that team. Now that we've got good coaching from Sparano and great leadership from Parcells, now that we have had a couple of good, solid drafts I think our team is definitely on the right track. It would be nice to get recognition for all the good things the trifecta is doing for our team but our guys will just have to win some games and make them respect the 'phins.
The last team to have such a turnaround was the Saints in 06, and they fell to 6-10, so it make sense that until they prove they can do it season after season we will always be looked down upon. Add in the guys were are counting on this year, Wake, Thomas, Grove, Davis, Smith, Wilson, are a exCFl player, a 6th round pick who played one half in the NFL, two rookies, and a guy who never made the probowl and was just cut by the Raiders. INOW, we are not looking at a disgruntled Randy Moss for a 4th rd pick..we need all of those guys to play like established veterans, if not better then just established NFL vets, until they do...we are one yr removed from 1-15. Recognition and respect comes from winning, there is no substitute.
mmm I think you made a mistake there. didn't you mean to say he has no college experience? oh wait...
We won the division last year, but we got booted very quickly and quietly in the playoffs, and the Pats were, undeniably, a different football team without Tom Brady. The Pats have proven themselves over and over again. We still have a ways to go. Let's not kid ourselves...
I know most people here don't like to hear it, but as a whole our WR corps is one of the worst in the league.
On what basis? I would like to hear the reasoning behind these accusations. Ted Ginn isn't one to not catch passes, London in his limited time showed promise, Davone Bess has hands like glue, Camarillo I believe is a great possession receiver and as far as Wilford goes, he never sniffed the field. Just because we don't have Randy Moss or Terrell Owens on the roster doesn't make our receiving corps terrible. We're not making people's fantasy teams much better, it would be nice if every receiver on the phins had 1,000+ yards.
Look, if you're going to go on the message boards of our rivals, don't expect to see much respect. The natural reaction of the majority of fans (ours included) is look for the negative aspects of their rivals. We could have won the Super Bowl and you still would have had a good percentage of people attempting to cheapen or dismiss it. Honestly, you can't give a rat's a** what they think.
It takes more than one year to rebuild respect thats been lost over the years by the three ring circus that has been the Miami Dolphins. We were so bad that everybody in the league thinks its a fluke that we went from 1-15 to 11-5 until we prove them wrong. I prefer it that way, let everyone think Miami was a fluke and let them think their game agains't Miami this year is an easy win or a cake walk.
It's not just the AFC east teams boards I check out. The Patriots fans of course think Tom Brady walks on water. But even the Jets and Bills fans are dismissing the Dolphins. Even outside the division all the talk is about Tom Brady or Mark Sanchez. It's just irritating to watch our guys written off so early. I really can't wait til the start of the season.
Reputations die hard, particularly one like ours, developed over years of unbending resolve, as the perennial epitome of mediocrity.
Brother that is fine. We have them right where we want them. Perhaps it was the 11-5 on a weaker schedule. This was a our first division title in how long? We have a tough schedule this year. Am I as a fan scared, no way. This will be a great test for our team to take another step towards respect. I don't think we are looking at 11-5 again, but I think we can do 10-6. Let them think the way they want to, the most important thing for the opposing players and fans to remember is they just played a heck of a team in the Miami Dolphins!
Be honest, and look at all the WR corps in the league. Not many times you'd take our WR over another. Without actually looking (But I will later), I'd say our WR are in the bottom 10, maybe even bottom 5.
I think its because teams have a hard time believing our turn around was legit. They (with some credence) mention our last place schedule. The wildcat was a novelty. We played mistake free football like few teams ever have. We are only one year removed from being 1-15. Its not important, really. We start off in Atlanta, then Indy at home, then get to go to SD to play the Chargers. Want instant out of this world respect? Win those three games; teams, pundits, other fans will then start to believe that we are the real deal. Respect in the NFL is earned. The good news is we don't have to go far to find it. The apple is on the tree...go pick it.
I'm concerned about the San Diego game. They'll be out to avenge last year's loss... and to do so in front of their home crowd. They will be very highly motivated. Last year, let's face it, they underestimated us a bit heading into the game.
The Miami Dolphins' 2009 record will not be affected by the respect (or lack thereof) from the media, people on message boards, or ESPN. The team will not work harder due to a perceived lack of respect, nor will they rest on their laurels if for some reason they start the season 8-0 or something like that. Complaining about "respect" is about as helpful as complaining about "media bias". Its inconsequential and annoys most people around you.
Imagine what it's like to be a Cardinals fan. People are hardly giving them a chance of making it out of the wild card round
Personally I like the lack of respect and I believe the reason behind it is the fact that we've been bad for quite some time now. Last year, in the eyes of many, was a fluke, and we'll be right back at the bottom of the division this year, where we deserve to be. Or so they think. We still have a lot to prove and we caught a lot of teams off guard last year, yes. We used a so-called 'gimmick' offense that stressed out opposing DCs on more than one occasion, yes. But what the detractors fail to take into consideration is the fact that week in and week out we played a full 60 minutes of football and won many games in the last couple of minutes. IMO that is an important factor that will carry on into this upcoming season. I don't give a damn how much talent we supposedly have/don't have, if our team brings it all to the table 16 times this year, and plays hard from whistle to whistle we will win ball games. Screw the Patriots and Tom Brady with his rebuilt knee, screw the Jets and their Dirty Sanchez and Buffalo....lmao, TO will not be to them what Moss is to the Patriots, the only thing they have to look forward to is the firing of Jauron in the middle of December.
I'm the same way. I welcome the disrespect sometimes because it makes it much, much sweeter to prove all the people wrong in the end.
The beauty is the players who come in and stick with this team will have earned their spot. No going through the motions here. You want to win, you'll know what you had to pay to get that win. Lots of our players learned that last year and the new faces will learn this offseason very quickly. As long as our FO and coaches are around, this team will keep winning games. With or without the wildcat, with or without the recognizable names. They play a team game and respect the work they put in to achieve success in this league. The rest of the football world will know about that soon enough.
In my opinion, i love the lack of respect right now. Look at some of the people who were in the superbowl the past couple of seasons and how much respect they recieved before the season. Arizona and the Giants weren't expected to do that well.
