like said before i didnt mean to have the caps lock on i didnt even know they were on tell i was done and it was posted
"-waiting forever to play J.Allen at safety" Did the guy who drafted him play him? I can only speculate here. This player intrigued me early in the year. I think he simply refused to learn the coverages. In other words, he refused to put in the work. I also think the defense was scaled back once the injuries to our safeties commenced. I remember reading a comment from a player the week Jason Allen was scheduled to start - "He has changed his work habits. He has been staying late every NIGHT this week getting prepared. I think he will be fine." That comment intimated to me that it was Jason Allen that changed. It wasn't the coaching staff that changed. It was the coaching staff that placed change into effect. I can only presume that at some point there was a confrontation about being a professional. It would be foolish for the coach to keep ALL of the coverages he wanted when he didn't trust this player on the field. I think they found middle ground and the defense has moved on from there. This speculation is one of the reasons why I was somewhat glad to see the injuries. It forced Jason Allen onto the field. We discovered that it was not the lack of playmaking ability that was keeping him off the field. It was between the ears. Or better yet, it was what was not between the ears. He changed that. The players comment told me this.
"-not utilizing JT properly (I'll defer to JT on that one)" I suppose you would defer to Joey Porter for his lack of playmaking too. That wasn't meant to throw anyone under the bus. That is context for what I will say next. I'm a reporter. I stick a recorder in your face and I say - "Last year you had ___ sacks, ___ tackles, ____forced fumbles, ____ interceptions at the same point in the year. Is there some reason why your production has dropped off?" What is your response? Is your response - "Look here bonehead. I have not got the time to explain defense to you. 43 or 34, it's all the same front in this league. You can do the same things. I could go down the littany of fronts and show you but trust me -they are all the same fronts. It's just different names for positions. The over is still the over. The under is still the under. The zone blitz is still the zone blitz. On the back end of the defense is where you do something different. Coverage dictates the front in defensive football. We have lost our starting safeties so this has limited what we can do in coverage. That bonehead that Nick Saban drafted refuses to learn the coverages. I think he got a 16 on the wonderlic. Maybe he can't learn the coverages. I don't know. What I do know is that coverage dictates the front. I can't do anything different because they can't do anything different. By the time they are able to do anything different, I may be able to put up some stats. Right now I'm stuck in the mud and I really don't want to talk to you. We just lost again." Now that comment would result in world war three in the locker room. You would be thrown under the bus by the media for pointing the finger at the secondary. So you don't make a comment like that. You keep the focus on you. And you response is - "I'm not being used in the same capacity as I was last year." ......and then the writer can make up the rest of the story. You did nothing wrong. You told the truth and you didn't have to exert much energy doing so.
It's not only the back end, but the front end as well. We all hated to see Joey in a three-point on passing downs. But the sad truth is, it's doubtful that anybody else could have done a better job at LE. Kevin Carter is in Tampa. We lost David Bowens. Jeff Zgonina's driving slow in Houston. Fred Evans got himself evicted. Vonnie Holliday was out. Matt Roth took Carter's place inside before getting hurt. We just don't have a lot of guys who can penetrate. That, combined with Joey not knowing the coverages, spells Porter at DE. And then there's the issue of instability at safety. With Bell and Tillman (and later Hill and Zach Thomas) out, not to mention Goodman missing time and Travis Daniels' descent, it's borderline suicide to consider bringing a blitz. As the ruler of the universe noted, Jason Allen and Worrell eventually began getting comfortable. That's about the time you started seeing Will Allen come off the edge. He's sort of filling that Yeremiah Bell role bringing pressure, though Bell is special because he can penetrate from anywhere on the LOS. I really hope Bell can make it back. He's the best blitzer on the team. But Achilles injuries are not kind to a skill player.
I understand that you are a younger finfan, these things happen. Not liking Cam is understandable, but let's try and keep things civil ya know? I do not like laying the blame for losses at the feet of injury, for us, that is only a part of the Cam story. Our starters were good NFL players, as soon as our starters were injured, our lack of depth really showed itself, that, and Cam is a rookie NFL HC, he is learning on the job, things like time outs in the early part of the season he admittedly, didn't handle well, later in the year, with Beck starting, when he sees something that confuses him, he calls timeout.
I can solve this very easily.Ask yourselfs this 1 question. Would this team, as currently formulated go 0 and 12 with Don Shula as coach? Would it go 0-12 with Nick Saben as coach? Most importantly, would it go 0-12 with Bill Cowher as coach?? If you answer honestly, you know what kind of a coach Cam is.
Just Trying to Have Some Fun... Hey yall, it has been a rough season, I was just trying to have some fun during the tough time... As far as questioning how much of a fan people are or aren't, I don't judge that. I have watched every play of every game this year as I have said in other posts, and have rooted for this team and supported them throught thick and thin for over 25 years and I am PROUD to do so... I live in New England and still stand strong and Proud as a Miami fan, so if having a little fun with a bad situation makes me "crappy fan" or "childish" so be it...Everyones intitled to opinions... And Zod, great posts, and great examples, having played the game for years and never coached, I totally see your point and thank you, because I never looked it that way, Im not "childish" enough to deny when I might be wrong in a situation. VERY good point, and good job getting 3 wins in a bad situtation, good luck next year... and I love the name ZOD...I kneel before you in that argument...
The problem with your analogy is that Shula, and Cowher had better drafts and personal then what we currently have, Saban bailed for a reason. For me, I'm not into "what if" especially in a NFL sense, that is meaningless out on the field, the real question is: "Is Cam Cameron the coach to improve the Dolphins? Or is he the designated punching bag, the Coach who presides over the badness while the roster is rebuilt?" I'm thinking of Jack Pardee in Washington, Kevin Gilbride in SD, Dom with the Texans. Some poor soul of a coach has to preside over the crappiness, like the Coach who took over for Wanny, not a bad coach, we just weren't a good team. But even the 03 team had more proven talent on the roster then this one has.
honestly? i could see 2 maybe 3 more wins just because of their experience. the end result; heading straight for the #1 overall pick in the draft. that makes him a rookie coach with rookies and 4th, 5th and even 6th string players starting in key positions. he deserves at least next year before we can truly judge him.
