Hey guys/gals, here's the jist. I am making a beer pong table. A "his and hers" table, each side is 2 feet by 4 feet. I just finished painting hers, and now I am beginning with my 2 x 4. I want it to be dolphins related, something really badas@. I painted hers by hand, so I have a creative/steady hand but I am coming up with nothing for my table.

Does anyone have any ideas, that they think could be do-able? Any help would be appreciated.

I am not picky, just trying to use this as a sounding board. Get some ideas that would look cool ya know.

It's too bad you aren't a basketball fan ... you could do a basketball court on your side. My sister did that and it looks pretty cool.

If you're looking for something Miami Dolphins related, you could do a football field, complete with endzone, hash marks, and Dolphins logo (You'd probably want to put it somewhere around the 35 ... ).

i like the football field idea. however, hash marks would actually help your opponent aim.

haha exactly. The football field idea is good, and I had thought of such, BUT painting the grreen field, white hash marks, and white numbers is easy. Now painting the exact endzone as the one miami uses, and the emblem in the center is another story. You cant find stencils for anything, or at least I cant find em. I am trying to sketch the dolphins logo, but it is tough being that it will have to be perfect, or else it wont look good. ...

Does anyone have a decent pic of the actual field, so that I can have something concrete to go off of? or anything that would be helpful in this process? I am aiming at making the field/"table" almost identical to the one miami plays on...(although an orange endzone would look pretty cool maybe)...

This is the best picture I can find of the field so far...there has to be better though somewhere. Almost all of the games I go to are away, so I don't have personal photos from Dolphins Stadium.

BTW I appreciate you guys posting!!!!

You should just print out the dolphins logo large size ... and then use transfer paper to put the logo on the field.

Here's a decent shot of the end zone. BTW, you can find a Dolphins font on the internet pretty easy ...

Yeah, that's probably the best pic that you'll find. I couldn't come up with anything on my search, but I do have the logos for ya ASU if you want to give it a shot.

I appreciate all those links. That really makes things easier for me. Now I just gotta figure out how to use this transfer paper. My mind's not wrapping around that idea all that well.

BTW, do you think you could explain that a little more to me, do I use a pen, pencil etc and how does it work? I am not all that familiar with transfer paper. Sorry. I am going to have to go and buy some tomorrow now.

I'll give you two ways to go about doing it. I've had good results with both. The first is more personally satisfying, but the second works well if you just want to get to drinking.

    The Manual Method

    • You should be able to find some paper that is used for things like Airbrushing ... It's kind of complex, so I'll try and break it down for you. Here's how it works.
    • First, you'll want to scale your design so that it fits on whatever medium you're using ... you can either print it out on the computer (easiest), or get it blown up to size at a place like Kinkos. When you do this, you'll want to have it printed out on transfer paper (might not be the right name for it), but it's basically paper with one side that's completely sticky and that can be peeled off, like a label.
    • After that peel the backing and stick it on whatever you're working on.
    • You'll want to use an exacto to cut around whatever color you want to paint first. For the dolphins logo, I'd work from the inside out, painting the dark blue, then the teal, then the white, and so on.
    • You'll want to mask off (or if you're not air brushing, just paint around) the sections as you go through the different colors that you apply. This will keep them from bleeding together. You'd be well served, if painting, to let them dry.

    The Easy Method

The other option, and I don't know about cost, but it's probably easier for you, is to have some custom vinyl stickers made. (Think like a Fathead) Not sure if this is a Kinkos thing or not, but I'd wager it is.

Then you could just paint the field green, do the numbers with a basic number stencil, drop in the hash marks, and then stick your vinyl stickers over the top after they're dry. Like I said, I don't know about cost, but that's what we do for large projects like this at work and they're hella easier and look sharp.

I like the sound of the Vinyl sticker method. I am going to look into stickers in a sec. My guess is that final product would look a lot better. I am painting, so its due for a few mistakes. The stickers would make it look almost perfect.

    Yep.

And if you get tired of the Dolphins (not that it would happen) you could do another team ... say ASU.

Kinkos online says the prices start at 10 bucks per square foot. I'd guess you're looking at about 5-6 square feet.

For the three previously linked images? Man, that's expensive. Maybe, I'll find another alternative...

Each Image or sticker I guess needs to be about...welll...

    Endzone stickers...

The "Dolphins" sticker would be about 4 inches tall, and about 12 inches wide.

The logo in the Endzone will be about 4 inches tall and 4 inches wide.

and the NFL sticker will be about 4 inches tall and 3 inches wide

The Logo at the 50, will be about 6 inches by 6 inches or so.

And I have decided to basically just do 3/4 of a football field, so that it doesn't look all jam packed. Which makes me only need to design one endzone. So those would actually be the only stickers I would need. Those 4 I believe. How many sq. feet do you think I would still need then?

I'd double check, I don't know what size they would end up being. I assume you're on a college campus, so there may be a local (cheaper) printing alternative somewhere in town.

(I still have to hinge the two sides together though) I can't wait to break this bad boy out and play beer pong on it Week 1 !!!
