Interesting find here. This possibly could be the future of gaming. No more playing games only on certain computer platforms. No more playing PC games on Boot Camp, WINE, Crossover or looking for Mac versions for Mac users. No more ****ty GFX cus you have a low end GFX card. All based on your internet connection & their small device.

I'm looking forward to seeing how this comes about.

Honestly this is a pipe dream more than anything. It's VERY ambitious but in the end that will be its downfall.

Also, Microsoft games (Halo, Gears, Fable, etc) and Nintendo games (Mario, Link, Metroid, etc) and Sony games (God of War, Socom, Killzone, etc) will never be put online, and for many gamers, those are what we want most.

I know very little about this but can Users put content that would be available to the masses?

And wouldn't the Bandwidth be extremely costly?

provided they're not infringing on copyrights, presumably yes, eventually.

As for the 2nd part, that I don't know.

It likely would be for the provider, which is probably why they'd charge a lot. Not to mention with ISP's starting to put caps on bandwidth use just for end-users, it'll get real expensive.

The more i read about this thing, the more I become a believer. Bandwidth wise, it seems no different than streaming HD content from say Netflix. The system and the technology look amazing. I would definitely give this a try.

it's certainly a nifty idea and it's something that will happen eventually within the next 20 years, I just don't think OnLive will be the company to do it. They'll be the ones to come out of the gates trying maybe, but ultimately this will probably fail.

I guess the thing I'm thinking mostly about is "What are the games going to cost?" If it's over $40 for a digitally distributed game, and you gotta think it will be, then it's very likely that people will become less interested in it.

Though if it DOES take off, think of what that'll do to the retail price of games.

So my buddy just got invited to the Onlive Beta. I went over there to see it in progress... I'm pretty impressed actually. There's a tad bit of lag so it's not perfect. But there's times when it worked perfect and you could never tell. They're still working on it and they made it clear that he wasn't supposed to film it, leak footage, or images of it. With that, I plan to post pics and possibly vids later ;)

All in all it looks like it could be a huge success. My buddy's internet connection isn't the best either. If it had been at my house it would have probably worked much better. The games were all demos so far.

I still think its going to be too lag sensitive for FPS online play.

So they just announced that the service will cost $15 per month and will launch June 17th. Their killer app right now is Crysis.. They need a really killer game people want to play if they want to be serious.
