Kassim Osgood is getting his wish a year later.
The Chargers put Osgood on the trading block more than two weeks ago, hoping to get a late-round pick for the special teams standout and erstwhile receiver.
“You would be correct, sir,” Chargers General Manager A.J. Smith said when asked if Osgood was officially available for trade.

Kassim has always been really good on special teams for the Chargers. I wonder if our front office is interested?:wink2: His agent in none other then Drew R.

Absolutely LOVE the kid except for one serious flaw....Drew R...

Other than that. sure one of our 7ths would be an incredible deal for this kid :hi5:

Note: He is the 4th or 5th WR in San Diego...I dont see him being any better than he 4th right now with who we have on the roster...maybe 3rd to Camarillo gets healthy....Maybe 5th with a "Nice" preseason aquisition.

Brother Kenny he brings this though:

Osgood was named as a member of the [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007_Pro_Bowl"]2007 Pro Bowl[/ame] and [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_Pro_Bowl"]2008 Pro Bowl[/ame] squads, both times as the [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Football_Conference"]AFC[/ame] special teams representative.

If we are looking to improve at special teams, I would welcome this trade.

Osgood's SDSU WR teammate was drafted by Miami, no? While Kassim was picked up as a free agent after the draft. Just another example of the inexact science of evaluating players.

Love to have him in Miami, "but" his price tag is 3.85 million and he wants more Wr playing time, and a 4th round pick is too steep for us to offer.

Yes we made mistakes back then. I think Kassim would give our ST a leader and a big boost to our fire as well.:wink2:

AJ wants the pick because he has holes to fill, and I know the pressure on him locally here is getting hotter.:wink2: He will build through the draft. He signs very few free agents.

but the Chargers would likely accept a fifth-or maybe even a sixth-rounder. They likely would recoup a sixth-or seventh-round compensatory pick should Osgood leave as a free agent after 2009.

To me the pick is negligible, the contract is out of our price range, we cut Vonnie H over 1.5 million, taking on a Special teams player for 3.85 million is more then likely not in the cards.

Would love to have him, to me our ST units need a kick start.

I know Kassim is not in the same league as Joey Porter, but he could have that effect of kick starting our ST, as Joey does with the D. Who is our leader on ST?

I'd have to say Patrick Cobbs, especially after he took over kickoff return duties.

To me, it would show seriousness in acquiring him, we want the best ST unit in the AFC East at least, but they tend to look at ST as sort of the stopping place for their roster churning.

i think erik walden has a chance to be our new special team ace, he was always making a play, even put up some big hits right in his 1st game with us

I hear you on that Kenny. Drew Rosenhaus is awful to work with....his clients seem to always cause trouble.

Walden also was a good OLB/DE prospect in last year's draft, in that sense he has more upside then Osgood does for our situation.

I love how our new regime is big on earning a starting job through Special Teams. They didn't give anyone an exception. I hope we can say the same after this year. I believe Wake will make a huge difference in Special Teams.
