Thanks Lisa and Pastor. Ironically, I was outside watching her run around and heard a yelp and then she fell over onto her left side. I don't know if it's just me, but that yelp hurt me as much as my kids' crying does. I ran over, picked her up and wouldn't let anyone near her while we took her to the animal hospital. When we got home, no one was allowed to go near her - I had her bundled up in her blanket in my bed. Am I crazy to act like this over a dog? I don't think so but hubby thinks I'm a "bit" touched.

For the record, I think the best people in life are "A bit touched"

Just gotta ask, how in the world did she break her leg running around? I am glad it was a broken leg if it had to be anything. That will heal pretty quickly....give her a peck on the nose from me please

We don't know how she did it Kenny. She has pretty skinny legs - vet thinks maybe she ran into something - a piece of wood or a piece of concrete or maybe slid on a patch of ice in the backyard. She loves it out there, but since the last snow, it's been pretty cold and the backyard has patches of ice scattered around. Chris put some ice melt out there, but I don't think he was able to get it all. Peck on the nose delivered

No, you're not touched, you're special Mary and very caring.
    Hope all turns out well.

Like I said before, the only pets I have are fish, but I babysit my daughters pit bull and my sons dogs run in and out all the time.

My Jasper got his leg caught in a closing door when he was about 2 years old. They are totally resiliant, and he was in a cast for about 5 or 6 weeks and then was a good as gold when it came off. Was bounding around all over the place.....

    I miss him

I know you miss him. I don't know what I'd do if something happened to Bean. The vet said she was more than capable of walking around on the cast, but it's like she's scared to put her foot down, plus the cast is such a foreign body to her, and remember, she's only 15 pounds.

Chorizo bit Rusty on the foot, causing a flesh wound that could only be replicated with a mosquito's bite. Rusty acted like he was crippled for life, limping and crying when I first got home. (My wife witnessed the altercation, that's how I know the skinny) A little antibacterial creme and he was good as new.

I defend Marty's honor to the fullest! Seriously though, Megs (my youngest) has on occasion put a dog biscuit on the top of Bean's collar and watched her chase her tail looking for the biscuit. We always tell her it's animal cruelty and she gets punished and promises not to do it again. I don't think she means harm by doing it and she loves her "beanie baby" but kids will be kids sometimes, like this girl in the video looked like. Now if she grew into an adult (or even now) and began kicking and beating Bean, I'd be very concerned. I know that she doesn't mean harm to the doggy.

The was a quote the other night on the PBS show "Nature". "Dogs have families, cats have staffs!"

Based on my family's experiances I would say that just about nails it!

Here's a pic of Bean this morning sitting next to me on "our" chair. She seems to be feeling much better and is actually walking on the leg now.

Behind that innocent face is the heart of a world class rat hunter. You catch that Beverly Hills Chihuahua movie? It was outstanding, even though there was only a cameo from a dachshund.

The only reason I saw Beverly Hills Chihuahua was because of Bean. She keeps me company every day, sitting next to me in the chair. I think she thinks she's people instead of a dog - she's a sweetheart. She's pretty upset though that she hasn't been able to have her weekly bath and perfume treatment. She gets her nails clipped, her ears cleaned, bath, perfume and a bow or bandana for $20. The groomer always tells me one day she's going to keep Bean. When I drop her off, everyone shouts out "Bean's here" they love her so much.

Nice! At our vets office Chorizo is a bit of a star, he stayed there 10 days when we went to Canada and became fast friends with the staff, they loved him, even let him hang out in my vets office when she was working in there.

Now Rusty is a little SOB at the vets. Last time they had muzzle him, due to him attempting to nip everyone, and he sprayed that skunky anal gland spray all over the tech when she tried to weigh him. :pointlol: What a stench.

He's the Black and Tan, a miniature dachshund, weighs in at 15 lbs, Chorizo is a standard weighing in at 18 lbs.

And for the record, there is something that smells delicious on the table, that's why they're so attentive.

When I'm walking them after work, we usually end up terrorizing at least 6 ducks (although there is one big old bird that doesn't back down from them) a squirrel or two, a couple cuban lizards, several hundred anoles, and the occasional Iguana, weather permitting. Then there's the neighborhood children, dogs, and adults that are also treated rather harshly by the 'twin terrors' as they've been anointed.

Funny you should say that. I have to disappear the outfit before hubby comes home from work. He would literally kill me if he saw her in it - he wants her to be a boy so much because the girls and I love to dress her up and I swear when she wears her hoodie, which is her most favorite outfit, when we go to put it on her, she's jumping for joy. I promise - I had baby dolls when I was little . I'll show it to him anyway and he'll say his usual "oh brother." The girls and I just go to the dog section in Walmart and there's all this ooing and awing.

Okay everyone - I have a not so great update for you. I was too ashamed before now to post it here, but Pastor Keith gave me the strength to do so. We lost our home. Before the historical society could buy it, it was sold at auction back to the bank. Despite all the work I did, including the wonderful Assemblywoman who got us as many adjournments as she could, the house was sold on February 18th. I lost touch with the businessman who said he would buy it so, that's it. It's now on the market. The woman who is handling the sale for the bank has given us a little bit of time to find somewhere else to live. We were supposed to be out of the house on March 16th. Suffice to say when someone rings the doorbell, I cower behind the door and turn off all the lights because I'm terrified it's going to be a sheriff telling me to get out. Please pray that we find somewhere pretty quickly. Thanks everyone.
