What about bringing in Jake Plummer?

I think we need to bring in a vet.
Get rid of Lemon because he's just horrible.

I don't know who's out there, but Plummer could be an option.

 

I would bring him in for a shot. The things he did, he did very well..and he has to be better than Cleo.

However, remember 1 thing. He quit after being traded by Denver. Dont know if Tampa still has rights to him or something?

 

Scheme wise hes a WCO guy.

 

I think if he quits (which he did) he needs to be out for a whole year (which he was) in order for him to become a FA again (I think).

 

Kindve. That is what they tried to teach him in Denver..which is probably why it didnt work so well.

At Arizona State he actually ran a LOT of 4 wide with RB sets. Not shotgun but under center.
He is best when on the run, and does have a problems making decisions sometimes. I still think he's better than what we currently have. IF it didnt cost us anything, I would bring him into camp and see what he's got.

with that said i believe you are right about plummer still being apart of the bucs roster but also keep in mind i believe they have like 5-7 qb's on that roster so someone is gonna have to be let go.

i have never been a fan of plummer partly due to seeing him play alot for denver as in-laws are bronc fans. i don't like his decision making skills at times and his inconsistancy..while i agree he might be better than lemon at this point we might have to ante up a pick for him and if we are going that route(giving up a pick to bring in a vet) there are a few names i would like to have more. volek is one guy i have been interested in since his days with the titans. collins from washington is also a guy i wouldn't mind bringing in for a yr or 2 maybe even chris simms as he could be one of the guys on that bucs roster that is let go and it wouldn't cost us a pick.
i have not lost faith in beck being our guy going into the 08 season with a little more time in practice and a much better coaching staff he could turn out to be just what we need.

thanks azfinfan..i have high hopes you are right about fh and as far as volek goes im afraid you are right as well. there is no way he gets cut and i am not for giving up a pick for another qb unless it is in the draft and a later round. but if the fo decides to trade for a qb i wouldnt mind it being volek..there's really nobody out there fa wise i would want. boy i wish we couldve landed schaub last yr.

I think before bringing in any FA QB we need to evaluate them based on their most recent play. Not how they used to play or how they might play. This has been our mistake over the past few seasons. Let's not make it again in a retread like Plummer. It would be another disaster.

 

He should have tried to prove he could play BEFORE he retired. No thanks - the guys stunk and don't want that smell in Miami.

yes..we also must give them the best oppurtunity to succeed. hopefully the new fo/coaching staff will be eager to do so. i'm reminded of how the org handeled brian griese coming in then throwing him out there 2 days after he got here without having the oppurtunity to get some timing down with the recievers,getting comfortable with the line(specially the center). the poor guy hadn't even gotten his playbook yet and he was thrown to the wolfes. then when he didn't have a great game they put fielder back in after a game and a half. some of this happened this year with lemon and beck. it's time we have people making smart decisions and sticking with it.

Sorry man but this is just INACCURATE. Griese was brought in to compete with Feidler and fiedler beat him out so Griese was the back-up and in terms pf us throwing him to the wolves, he didnt play until weeks 8 - 12 so in that sense he was ready and dod know the playbook. Griese overall is not a good QB and historically his QB play proves that.

 

yes he didn't play till week 8 but i vaguley remember us not getting him in here till week 6 which imo is throwing him to the wolves. his first game in he looked fairly decent. his very next game was the washington monday nighter where fiedler came off the bench hot in the fourth quarter and led us to a comeback win and that was the last we saw of griese.
it seemed to me griese never got a fair shake to really compete here. i don't remember hearing about griese getting the reps he needed for it to really be a fair competition. just like the fair competiton when fielder came in to compete and was outplayed in preseason yet still got the job.

 

No, we had him here all season. Signed in the offseason and went through the entire OTA's and TC... maybe he didnt get a fair shake, only because our OL was horrible, but the only game he did good in was the SD game... Every one after that he was just horrible, throwing picks, fumbling left and right.. If you remember the Indy game, we were aboutt o win, but on 4th down at the indy 2, he fumbled and Freeney recovered it... He was a fumbling machine that year. The washington Monday nighter was the last game he played for us. He threw 2 picks in that game, 2 games before that at Tenn he threw 3.

 

I agree with that. I was thinking he might be free and clear and could compete at Training Camp. No way no how would I give anything up for him (Not that we even have anything to give but draft picks)

Griese was injured in the offseason and Fiedler beat him out because no one messes with Wanny's boy according to Wanny. And when he played, Wade Smith left the door open wider than the goal posts at Dolphin Stadium. Keep letting pressure in on the blind-side and even guys like Manning and Brady will fumble and falter. I don't think his play shows he's a bad QB, it shows he's an above average one. Career 83.6 QB rating is not bad compared to most. He led Tampa Bay to their only victories after subbing in the year after his Miami stint. Got injured and Tampa went to a youth movement with Simms. Went to Chicago, won a few more games than Grossman before himself succumbing to injury, opening the door to Orton.

I remember his injury.. Torn ligament in his toe. But he wasnt just thrown into the game. He still had time to learn the plays. Even so, that was at the point of his downside for his career. He was only good for 1 year with Denver before coming to us and still stinking it up. (i understand the revolving OL door too) and then he ressurected it somewhat with Tampa and is now ruining it again in Chicago. At this point he has a respectable Qb rating, but I am sure it will only continue to get lower the more he plays. Also, DC had an 89(?) rating before his injury too

 

Holy smokes! Wade Smith was terrible. Absolutely horrible!!!!!

 

His "down" years with Denver would've been more than what we'd have hoped out of Fiedler. And I'm not sure he's ruining it again in Chicago considering he's made a good number of come from behind victories and 3-4 W-L record when the team itself went 7-9.

 

Basically his whole time at Denver was down, 2001 was really only his good year throwing 23 TD and 19 INT's but fumbling 7 times... In 1999 as a starter he fumbled 16 times, thats gotta be some kind of record... Also, yes, Griese went 3-4 as the starter but how many of those wins were because of Griese and not because Hester was returning kicks... BG rating this year was 75. far below his career rating

 

Actually the record is 21, held notably by Daunte Culpepper. Griese's is probably 60th. 7 fumbles isn't too bad considering guys like Romo have fumbled 10 times, Hasselbeck, Roesthlisberger 9. Project Beck's fumbles over 16 games and it's near 23.

Griese won the Green Bay game with a 34 yard TD bomb to his TE with 2 minutes left in the 4th quarter, that score being the difference. Hester didn't produce much that game. Also won the Philadelphia game 19-16 with a 15 yard TD pass to Mushin Muhammad with 9 seconds on the clock in a hostile Lincoln Financial Field. No Hester in sight. Nearly beat or at least tied the Viks had the defense been able to prevent a last second FG with an 81 yard TD pass to Hester after a consecutive 33 yard TD pass to Mushin less than a minute before with roughly 1 and a half minutes left.

 

in comparison I guess the fumbles arent that much. figures DC owns that record... BG final 3 games, 1 of them wins, leaving him only 1 more win out of the rest of the games he played is non indicative of a good QB. in those 3 games he had 3 TD's 6 INT's, 5 sacks, and 2 fumbles (2 fumbles isnt that bad). but he really stunk it up. Anytime a QB throws more picks than INT's he didnt have a good year regardless of the teams record

 

Jake PLummer sucks. Athletic as hell but he's like a horse that can't be contained. He's going to fumble and throw picks regardless of how hard anyone tries to coach it out of him.

 

True, those most of the ints were in one game I believe. I think it was 4.
