Cornell did some concerts with them (including a hellacious local benefit) and was supposed to start recording, but I don't know what happened. Now I read that DuVall will be the lead.

Every band has been influenced by others. John Lennon and Paul McCartney were HUGE Elvis fans. It doesn't mean that they didn't deserve the praise they got or should have all of their credit given to Elvis.

Same goes for Green Day in my opinion. Sure, the Ramones came first and a thousand other bands. But Green Day is one of the key bands that popularized that genre of music and took it from an underground culture to a mainstream staple. Again, you can argue the merits of that, but not the fact of whether it exists or not.

And I said nothing about Grammys. I think most people are in agreement that that award has lost all of its appeal and clout within the industry. Quite frankly, they bribe musicians to show up by telling them that they will win if they do show. It is probably the worst of the awards shows, next to Aqua's thread, of course.

And I already said I respeced what the Foo Fighters have accomplished, and even said a couple of their songs are okay with me. I just find the majority of their collection to be rather "blah."

Which is why I said they brought it to the forefront. how revolutionary that is, well I would say somewhat considering the music that was going on then.

sure, but you said critics for better or worse that is a set of critics not to mention the other critics that have praised the foo fighters.

And I dont respect green day because when the world needed them to stay punk they followed everyone elses lead. Great they made a couple of good songs and some political in a day and age where politics means nothing. Still doesn't change the fact they changed their sound and followed the leader.

I will say, as I get older, I have mellowed a lot in my musical tastes. I do prefer acoustic versions of songs over the plugged in originals. But it brings up a good question in my mind.

Do we like the acoustic version more because they sound more "real?" Or is it because we like th eoriginal so much that hearing an alternative version of a song we like is intruiging?

I'll never understand why people dis bands or musicians for not being what they expect.

Fans of The Beatles were pissed every time they changed direction, which was a lot; fans of punk bands started to dislike their favorite bands - making the very same music - for being accepted in the mainstream; fans of Ani were pissed when she started dating a man.
