Paul McCartney and Dave Grohl doing my favorite Beatles song was awesome (I Saw Her Standing There). Radiohead and the USC band was killer (15 Step). Allison Krauss and Robert Plant was really impressive. I didn't see the entire show, but those three performances stuck out for me. Conversely, that Katy Perry chick pretty much can't perform live. And modern hip hop, by and large, doesn't translate live IMO.
yea, hip hop has a hard time translating but ive seen some great live performances from hip hop. btw, Lil' Wayne winning best rap album is a joke. for anyone not a rap fan...Lil Wayne is disliked by most of the rap community and fans, personally i love Wayne and his music prior to the last 1 or 2 years. But this album that won that award was complete trash.
You know I have heard that...because he's a sellout or something like that. Of course like you said I am not a rap fan so I may be wrong about that.
Wayne's got a rock album coming out in April. I heard the first track on the radio the other night. Heavy on vocal effects. Not aimed at him, but at pop in general.......can we stop with all the effects on everybody's voice? I mean, what's unique about any of these songs/artists when it could 'anybody' singing them? Oh, and what about that MIA chick being full term in see thru and polka dots? WTF was that? Surreal. They said she was supposed to give birth today. Maybe it's past experiences talking, but that seems dangerous.
The 2 biggest reaons it seems hes garbage now though is because he completely sold out and went pop and two, i think the drugs got him to much.
lil wayne was terrible with juvinile back in the day also.....and with birdman....lil wayne is complete hype and a terrible lyricist.....his rhymes are elementary
eh, id have to disagree. he is a punch line rapper, and was a great one. hes never been a great lyricist in the sense that hes going to tell you an unbelieveable story, but hes going to say sick punch lines.
if thats what makes him a "great rapper" (not saying you are saying that....but alot do) then most stand up comedians and comedy writers for tv shows can be a rapper also.....conan o-brein "irish thug" album is coming out in april....lol
i agree with sick lil wayne was always hype, imo he just always had the hook ability which caused him to get gassed up. I was never all that impressed with his punch lines compared to master ace or even em.
I found the show to be pretty lame, by and large (as usual). I keep looking at my watch to see how many more of her 15 minutes Katy Perry has left.
they can be rappers, but just because they can say something funny while rhyming doesnt mean they could be great rappers. if you really look at rap as a whole, outside of the Nas' and a lot of back pack rappers, rap is nothing but a bunch of punch lines put together anyways. but thats not to say Wayne couldnt put together good songs where he tells you a story. if you listend to Tha Carter I(waynes best album), he had many story telling songs, and sick ones to. From 'Walk In', 'Inside', and 'Walk Out' where hes taking you through his house, to 'I Miss My Dawgs' where hes rapping to his former friends and former members of the rap group Hot Boyz. music is nothing but art, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Wayne is one of the worst rappers out right now, and rap in general is pretty bad, but i dont belittle anyone for their opinions on music because its all opinions and taste. thats whats great about music.
im not sure how wayne could always been hype considering he wasnt even mainstream rap until The Carter II which only came out 05 or 06. Eminem is one of the greatest rappers ever, lyrically hes definitely suppior to Wayne, so i could see that, Eminem subject matter is something else though. Master Ace is nice, Long Hot Summer is one of my favorite hip hop albums, but hes a depression rapper pretty much and his swag is bland.
yea seriously....i was in middle school and hot boyz was huge..."bling bling" was gigantic "pinky rang cost about fitty" "got so much ice i can skate on it" lol good times
yeah i might be wrong but im pretty sure he first started getting gassed up when he appeared on juveys back that *** up. where he dropped the lyrical bomb "after you back it up then wha wha drop it like its hot".
lol. he wasnt gassed up at all then. he wasnt even really a feature on that song, all he did was say drop it like its hot. they just had him put that part on the song because Wayne just had that song called drop it like its hot. btw, Wayne was also 16 when they did that song. not that that would excuse him for that "lyrical bomb" but still. a lot people didnt realize wayne was like 13 years old when the hole hot boyz thing was going on. wayne wasnt hot during those days, the hot boyz were kinda, but that was at 13 years old, no body was hyping wayne up. the big tymers with mannie fresh and baby were the hottest for a while, not wayne, and Bling Bling was B.G.'s song, not waynes.
yes they were, he was the one that stood out, hell they were all gassed up. Everytime he made an appearance. Was it to the level that it is now, no, but there was hype there. tha block is hot was gassed up as well bro.
This is true, they were all gassed up, but it quickly ran out. The Block is Hot went platinum, but after that he fell off the face of the earth with lights out and 500 degreez. he went gold with those two at a time when everyone was going platinum. btw, music that was hyped up and commercial was so much greater as compared what it is now. sorry to take this thread off the course of grammys
GARDENHEAD'S 10 Grammy Observations: 1. M.I.A. rules the school. Even 9 months pregnant. 2. Katy Perry is like the fruit she danced around in: sweet, tasty, and with a shelf-life of about a week. 3. Macca is a gem. 4. Neil Diamond is not. 5. Lil Wayne rules (I have to say that cause I live in New Orleans). 6. When Radiohead is ripping off Fleetwood Mac, its time to pack it in. 7. The new U2 song sucks big time. 8. Taylor Swift is 100X more talented and 1000X hotter than Miley Sirus. 9. The Jonas Brothers should not be in the same room with Stevie Wonder, much less on the same stage with him. 10. Why is Samuel L. Jackson at EVERY awards show????? Bonus: Coldplay...I just don't get the attraction. Snoozeville if you ask me.
Love Regulators. Btw, don't mean to turn this into the hip hop thread but anybody hear anything on Bone Thugs new album?
Carter III should not even have been nominated. Nas should have won. Swagger Like Us should have won best performance and best song. I can't believe lil waynes ....god aweful lollipop won best rap song. What a load of horse crap. It should have gotten worse song ever. Who judges these things? 14 year old suburbian teenagers? for f*** sake! BTW, audio tone needs to go now! T-Pain should be shot for bringing it back.
