I was thinking about the Dolphin offense when it occurred to me that a solid TE might be more important than a solid FB. Reagan Mauia seems to be very athletic for such a, um, solid person, so I wonder if he could be moved to TE.

Now that I look at his stats on ESPN, I see that he is only 6'. That might be too short to be effective in the passing game. Has there been a recent TE for any team that has been an important part of the passing game at that size?

I don't think he has the athleticism, height and hands to make that move

Let him excel at FB and if they let him develop into the Hybrid FB/TE i'd be happy but i doubt it.

You're right. I don't even like the idea of him running the ball, let alone receiving. I thought he'd be a good short yardage back or a receiving option but he didn't perform very well on the few opportunities he had. He's seriously lacking any kind of speed as well. I mean he's really slow. I don't think Mauia is suited for any other position than FB.

At 6 ft he would get outplayed at TE, by even Martin.

I've also been been thinking about moving Zach to FS now that hes getting older. It might be a good move for him...

Stone hands although the cast he wore most of the year could have something to do with that.

I know its a unpopular view but I dont think he is a premier FB either .I would not be surprised if the new regime make changes in that position.

Parcells has no loyalty to the polynesian connection so we may se a reduction in that respect.

Ya, basically he's got no hands.

It isnt impossible by any means, but I dont think it'll happen. He didnt light the world on fire, but he had some nice blocks.

Parcells probabaly isnt going to hire a guy who will have no need for a FB. His own personal philsophy favors the 2-TE set, but he's always kept one around.

Mauia doesn't have the height but he sure has the size to be a punishing FB.

How many balls were thrown to Reagen this season?

I only recall the one early in the year, when he had a cast on his hand?

    Reagen at Te.......err...no.

I've yet to see anyone, show how many blocks and missed blocks Reagen had, or even how many drops he has had...does anyone know?

I don't see why these people want to give Mauia the ball. He really isn't that great of a running/pass catching FB. He is what he is, an "in your face" style blocking FB. There's been numerous times where I seen Mauia grab the ball and then drop it... or sometimes even worse, he makes the grab, gets hit and the ball pops out. Heck even when he runs the ball, he's shown that he's not that great of a runner, I think with his 5 carries he brought up a 1.3 average or something. Sure that's not much to judge, but when watching him during games, he seems to run right into the line and gets tackled... Give the ball to our skill players... Brown, LoBook, Ginn, Marty Booker, etc... they'll get the job done before Mauia ever will!

And that's all you can ask for in a FB. Cameron was the one who utilized the FB outside of blocking. Parcells ran teams usually just had them blocking left and right.

I'm content with that type of FB, I just don't want to see him running the ball anytime soon...

When Carthon was Parcell's FB, he was noted for his blocking, but he could catch the occasional pass, the FB has to catch passes occasionally IMO.

Right now Lorenzo Neal is considered the great FB, he occasionally touches the ball, but before there Neal there was Johnston and even Konrad who could catch the ball..

I know that there are stats for blocking for lineman, I've yet to see any for Fb's or Te's, does anyone know where to find blocking stats for those positions?

Mauia looks like he's no more then 5'10". He's too short and doesn't have the athleticism to be an NFL TE

I hate moving guys to other positions...it doesn't work very often...he did ok as a FB...we just need to draft a TE or get 1 in free agency.

    Ozzy rules!!

What is everyone's opinion of Mauia's place on the team? Is he cut? Does he have a good chance to remain?

There is no doubt he is a good blocker .He blocks out the sun.

He may stick simply due to the fact that Parcells doesnt expect much from FBs emphasizing more the H Backs but I would not be surprised if he is replaced simply because the incoming coach has a favorite at the position.
