You could also get Merling to shed the lbs. and get him to go to OLB. Draft Gilbert and you have a 34 end.
He basically said that since Hoyer had a good arm he was capable of making all the NFL throws which is why Todd deserves to be hit on the head with Vince Young.
Daryl Richard continues to take on the doubles. This is a guy that really started to come on the second half of the year with Georgia Tech. He was one of the guys I wanted to see a good amount of and I like what I've seen.
my problem with that is, with us having Matt Roth doing that last year, i highly doubt the FO feels like Merling doing that would be the best move.
If there's consistency on the tape, I'd give him a shot to squeeze in. Might be exactly the kind of guy someone absolutely falls in love with.
HOLY SCHNYKIES. Did you guys see the way Daryl Richard fired in fast and low on that short yardage play? Wow. He personally wrecked that play. I think the tandem of him and Pryor is working out extremely well for the East defense right now. Richard is taking on all the doubles beautifully and Pryor is taking the singles and making plays.
Another DE? Dunno. Wouldn't rule it out but I'd imagine we're looking at an OLB conversion player first.
I would think so as well. But with our roster and Vonnie Holliday starting at End and Roth at OLB, why wouldnt they have Merling play OLB from the beginning?
Dunno. Up until now, there's insane measurables, a great East-West Shrine week and an impressive highlight reel. I would think that scouts and GMs are looking for a bit more than a freakish athlete DE in round 1. Not saying he isn't, but I'm holding my breath until I've seen that tape Con promised.
At SJSU ... as I said, I'm not saying he won't make it but I'd call the evidence a bit too circumstancial to call him a first round lock yet. I need a witness
Hunter Cantwell is the one QB that I really thought COULD stand out in these practices...but hasn't. But McShay has a point (finally) about how incredibly quickly he has had to completely transform his release...I have a feeling he's going to keep doing well in this game. That first throw was very good looking. Very good looking indeed. And the release looks nice.
I still can't get over Gilbert being the physical specimen that he is. 35 5/8-inch arms and 10 1/4-inch hands to go with a 40 inch vertical. And he's 6'5", 290. Holy hell.
Mouton did a nice job on that play, he jumped the route, put his body between the Wr and the ball, if the throw weren't high, he would have picked it.
Is Gilbert playing? I just turned it on (had the DVR going for the part I missed )... and I dont see him out there? #90 on the white team, right?
