Now I've seen it all. Darth Vader and Yoda will be playable guest characters in the upcoming Soul Calibur IV. WHY?! I'd love to sit in on the design meeting at Namco when they made this decision. I can imagine it now: "Alright, we've stripped as much of Ivy's clothes off as possible without making her nude. Sophitia's breasts have grown two cup sizes. Taki is jigglier than ever, Our character redesigns are complete. But we're still missing something. It's not enough to just have triple-F bra sizes minimum on all the female characters. Let's bring in Darth Vader! Episode 3 was kinda cool."
This is the gaming subforum. That means we talk about video games here. Soul Calibur 4 is a video game. I hope I'm not going too fast for you.
Please pay attention to what part of the forum you are on...I'd like to say more but getting a ban is not something I am hoping for.
It's the same reason they brought in Link, Heihachi, and Spawn... To attrack outside fans to the franchise. I think it's cool. Spawn and link didn't ruin SC3. Snake isn't gonna ruin Smash Bros. I don't see Yoda and Vader ruining SC4. oh. Hi guys.
Mor made it to the game section . Yea I agree though no way it will hurt it and it will surely bring in some star wars fans including myself.
But there is such a thing as setting and there is such a thing as the fourth wall. It made no logical sense to the series to bring in Heihachi, Link, or Spawn, and it makes no logical sense to the series to bring in Darth Vader and Yoda. Smash Bros can get away with it because Smash Bros takes place in a completely fictitious world: the characters are magically-incarnated toy figures, for crying out loud. Soul Calibur 4 takes place in renaissance Europe. Big difference there. There are better ways to attract new fans to the series than via marketing tie-ins, that's all.
I hear what you're saying... But I don't think it's a completely bad thing. Like with SC3, I'm sure Yoda and Vader will be Arcade and Versus mode characters only. You never played Spawn, Link, or Hehachi in story mode... Because there's no place in the story. I think of them as special characters. Remember Bill Clinton, Will Smith, and countless others in NBA Jam?
NBA Jam didn't take itself seriously. I just don't see the point of Yoda and Vader in Soul Calibur. Out of all the guest characters they could bring in, why these two? Why not Kratos for the PS3 version, and Altair for the 360 version? That makes far more sense.
Simply they are tryin to sell games and yoda and vader will include alot of people wanting to play it just to use them. Although Kratos and Altair would be awesome.
Its just an added feature like Mor said. Hey before the Spawn thing, I never even heard of the soul caliber series. It attracted me to the game, just like this will for certain people.
Yea that is pretty dumb I agree there. I probably won't end up getting the game but i would get ps3 version then.
I think Desides is taking Soul Calibur a little too seriously. It is a game where people just hit each other over and over again with swords. A fun game. An awesome game. Still Yoda and Darth Vader aren't going to effect it other than being fun.
It takes itself seriously. Suspension of disbelief only goes so far, man. At some point you say "Okay, that's too much." Kratos and Altair would have fit SC4 much better.
I like that SC puts special characters in it's games. Instead of doing a VF or DOA and adding characters that stay, they mix it up more by having special characters come and go. This is the best since SC2 had Link!
Consistency of design and setting. Same way Halo, Assassin's Creed, Final Fantasy, Suikoden, Breath of Fire, Street Fighter, Mega Man, Lost Planet, and all the rest take themselves seriously. No. Dead or Alive 4 had a SPARTAN, yes, but it wasn't Master Chief.
In one of the least-meaningful "blink and you'll miss it" appearances in gaming history done by a character owned by the same company who made the game she made a cameo appearance in. Breath of Fire III had Sakura and Chun-Li in the crowd during the Contest of Champions, too. Doesn't mean BoF3 didn't take itself seriously in terms of its setting and presentation. Chun-Li's one-second appearance in BoF1 and Darth Vader, Yoda, Link, Spawn, and Heihachi appearing in Soul Calibur are totally different scenarios.
