I love my school (Akron), but I didn't exactly have an easy major (chemical engineering) and it pisses me off to see some people with these majors because they get to go to school for free but mostly don't even care about their education. It's free, and you don't maximize your education? Boggles my mind man.

and they arent ALL taking silly majors either....its just as ridiculous to pigeon-hole every college football player into a "P.E. major" i hate that "jock" stero-type

    How do you figure that?

    120 schools in D1-A, 100 players per team. 12,000 players in D-1A.

32 teams in NFL, 65 players (if that) counting practice squad. 2,080 players with a typical career of 2.3 seasons.

Oh yea, they are going to make millions.

    Well away from here
If college athletics were really about college, the programs would worry more about giving these kids even remedial education rather than making sure they know the tendencies of every Mike backer in their conference the last 4 years. They don't offer football degrees at the end of that studying.

Many of these kids are just used and tossed aside. It doesn't start with the colleges, but it certainly doesn't stop there either.

Who is saying they ALL do?

Some guys end up not having the talent to play in the NFL. Some have career ending injuries before they ever even start their careers. There are plenty of reasons that a collegiate athlete should consider a practical major. Of course, I happen to be one of those people that just thinks it's a tad bit absurd to have "collegiate athletes" who, for all intents and purposes, do not actually go to college.

Then again, I love college football (and basketball) and don't really have a better alternative. Still, it makes for a good laugh whenever I see one of the more creative majors.

imho kids need to be paid in college......the big schools anyways.....its complete BULL**** to see a #15 florida gators jersey....with no name on it (you know whose jersey it is) and florida gets all the merch % for it....tebow gets none of it.....how about the kids earning this bcs berth...? they are making the school MILLIONS AND MILLIONS OF DOLLARS.....

yeah they get free school....but when we are comparing 70k in student loans.....or millions of dollars for ONE GAME....these kids get used to all hell

70K is a low number IMO for 4 years of room and board (plus transportation to and from games, equipment, personal tutors, healthcare, monthly stipend/spending money, etc.)

    70K * 100 players = 7 million.

I'd say it evens out, but just my opinion.

Edit: Football and basketball also play for all those other athletics that run nowhere near being profitable. because without those sports taking in that money, almost no other sports teams are going to exist.
