    Heck, this is nothing new.

He was at the top of several lists immediately following the Superbowl last year. I think he is actually the type of guy that would prefer to stick with his current role and organization. I dont think he goes anywhere.

Out of the Jets, Browns, Lions and Broncos?

    Jets are 1B, at worst.

A lot of great personal on this team, other than the Quarterback position, but Favre I don't think will be back with this team whether that means he's released, traded or he retires.

BTW, the 3 1st round picks clause with Minnesota expired after one season, I believe, so that doesn't rule them out.

Step back and look at it though, Mangini was treated like he was Rich Kotite, and he was one of the few Jets coaches who left with close to a winning record, the Jets haven't been consistent winners since Parcells left, and before that things were even bleaker.

Why step into the firing line?

I'd say the Jets are #3 on the list, the Broncos and Browns have better players and Qb's, the Jets have draft picks, a huge salary cap, and high expectations for both.

Would you rather start a Head Coaching career with Cutler, Anderson, or Clemens?

Lets not forget that the current Jet roster was built to just win it all now baby.
It is not going to be a quick fix in NY. Unless somebody can come in and get the group of highly paid veterens to gel, and very quickly, it is going to be a long hard building process.
Of course it can be done, but it is NOT gonna be a quick fix, not by a long-shot. I think as much as anything, THAT is why Mangina got the axe.

A lot of great personnel?!?! Come on. I can think of Jenkins, Jones, and Faneca as "great" players. Revis, maybe.

They are approaching Cap Purgatory, and Ghost..err..Ghoul...Gholston covering kicks, they have les problems, add in no Qb to speak of, and it only gets a bit worse.

It being NY, there really is no "rebuilding", whomever they take must win now..period..this is the sort of team that George Allen used to make hay with, but a guy like Cowher or even Spagnola, will have a tough time with.

Marty S would be their guy, but he is to bland for NY..IMO.

Dustin Keller does look like a player, so does Washington and Rhodes.

    Credit where it is due.

Those guys are not "great". They're pretty good, but not great. I don't think Miami has that many "great" players, either. I'd list only:

    GREAT
    Pennington
    Ronnie
    Jake Long
    Joey Porter

For the first time ever an NFL team will go into the season without a headcoach. The New York Jets will be the team to accomplish this feat.
Management stated in a press release that they have searched for a coach since they fired Mangini, and that noone is interested.
Rumor has it that Brett Farve will retire for the 17th time to handle the duties.

Pennington came in second in the MVP voting. Tied for a distant second, sure, but second nonetheless. He's grrrrrrr-ate!

    You mean Quinn, right?

Derek Anderson very well could be competiting with Kellen Clemens for the Jets job if Favre does decide to retire.

A Rook HC will play Anderson, he has a bit more experience and success.

Seriously though, the Jets Front Office is acting a bit crazy 124, no Experienced Head Coaches, meaning they will be starting at -0- next season.

The newest rumor is that the Jets are the ones who don't want Shanahan or M.Schottenheimer because Woody wants Tannenbaum as his GM and a Coach to Coach. He doesn't want a guy like Mike or Marty or Bill (Cowher or Parcells) to be doing both.

Of course that means we're going to hire yet another unproven Coordinator.

That or what my prediction has been since December 29th, in the end we're going to end up promoting Bill ****ing Callahan to Head Coach. You just wait and see. Woody Johnson is moronic when it comes to picking coaches.

And honestly dude, I think the Browns, no matter who the coach is, will start Quinn. He was a first round draft pick who showed promise when he started, the organization is going to end up dealing Anderson to some team, whether it be the Jets, Lions, Vikings, Bears, Bills, whoever.

They sold the farm 124, a new coach may wish to cut guys and whack the salary cap and they just cannot afford that right now.

Which will make one of the Jets largest problems, even larger, the Jets have no "identity"...it seems to me they don't know what they are about.

Thomas Jones had a half hearted 23 yds, Washington had 60, the game was put on Favre, and even then, the Defense was neither here nor there.

    No unit was held accountable.

    Ouch.

We'll see, Pioli will end up in Cleveland, he will bring the Pats philosophy of wringing blood out of a stone.

Braylon Edwards needs a hands transplant...

There is a few they could cut, most notably Bryan Thomas and Chris Baker. Favre retiring or being released would take $13 million off the cap, but if he's willing to come in for all Offseason workouts and all of Training Camp and such, I think I'd be willing to welcome a Hall of Fame QB back for one more try, a full offseason full of work in with Brian Schottenheimer and receivers (hopefully we'll add a true #1 target, somehow).

If we switch back to the 43 with Spagnuolo or stay with the 34 with someone else, or with Spags, I just hope they do get rid of Bryan Thomas and get Vernon Gholston into the lineup and see what he can do. Don't make him cover Tight Ends or Fullbacks or all that garbage, rush the f'ing passer. Hopefully him working out with Lawerence Taylor this offseason will help him progress.

    "A true #1 target..."

Dude, the Chargers won divisions with Antonio Gates and Reece Caldwell.

It's a funny NY thing, either you guys have the perfect answer, or you have nothing at all.

Jets would be better served with the 4-3, Gholston may not have it 124, he could just be a workout warrior, put it this way, he is better with his hand on the ground, but Sutton already tried that this season and...-0-...

Now y'all have Thomas and Pace, who would play the middle? And who would run the 4-3?

Funny thing is, because I'm even asking, the Jets have even larger problems.

Bob Sutton is absolute garbage. Its a testament to how horrible Eric Mangini is that he kept that worthless S.O.B. around for three seasons. Whoever the HC is, he will fire Sutton.

They didn't give Gholston a chance as a 43 DE this year. The Jets rarely went into a 43 and they rarely used Gholston. He was in Mangini's' dog house from Day 1 and Mangini and Sutton gave him way, way too much information for a 43 DE rookie who came in late due to stupid college rules and then had to learn the complicated 34 system, although it shouldn't have been complicated for him. For Vernon it should've been "See the QB, get the QB". But it wasn't. I blame Mangini & Sutton.

We still have better 34 Personal. Calvin Pace, our most expensive player on D, is best in the 34, same goes with Bryan Thomas, Shaun Ellis and David Harris, 4 of our top 7 Defensive Players.

BTW dude, Antonio Gates is a #1 target. He may be a Tight End, the best in the league at that, but TE's can be #1 targets. I love Dustin Keller, but I don't think he's on Gates' level. Hopefully he will be!

Maybe, it depends on how parakeet Tannebaum and Johnson want to be.

Hmm...so they NEVER had Ghoulston put his hand down and rush the passer this year?

Players must fit the System, not the other way around, when a players is a roadblock, they should be moved on, like we did with JT this year.

WAS a #1 target, and either way, he is a Te, the Jets have a above average Wr corps, they don't need to go all "yankees" y'all need a coach that will force them to perform, or to move them down the road.

    Look at Miami's Wr corps

Ginn was a #9, but before Greg C was injured, he was our #1, and Bess a UDFA was our #3...

The Jets need a #1 receiver or at least a guy with breakaway speed who can crack the starting lineup. Hopefully that'll be David Clowney who played in the final three games and showed a glimpse of hope. Crybaby Coles, as I like to call him, has got to go he's too in love with Chad to be around here playing with Brett, Kellen or whoever. It would be good to see the Jets go out and draft a Hakeem Nicks or the other UNC wideout who got hurt earlier in the year against UND to pair with Cotchery, Stuckey, Clowney and Keller (muh boy).

The 43 Defense could work for the Jets, I've been thinking and I came up with a scenario where we wouldn't have too many holes, but Pace at 43 end is a big question mark still. Too big to play OLB in the 43. I don't think it would be as simple to move Pace as it was to move Taylor for your team. I think Taylor would've fit the 34 anyway, just Parcells didn't want him. Anyway, my 43 projection for the Jets if Spags is hired and wants to run it would be:

    DE - Gholston
    DT - Jenkins
DT - Ellis -- Spags loves to use 3 DE's on the line, Ellis did play some 43 tackle back in the days of John Abraham, Ellis & Bryan Thomas (who in this situation I could see us cutting easily, he was an ineffective 43 end).
    DE - Pace

    OLB - Barton
    MLB - ??? / David Harris
    OLB - David Harris / ???

    CB - Revis
    CB - Lowery / ???
    S - Rhodes
    S - Smith / Elam / ???

Wherever Harris can't play (he played 43 OLB in Michigan, but plays 34 ILB in NFL), you draft a backer or pick up one via Free Agency. My dream sequence is Harris & Barton at OLB and resign Vilma, who'll be a FA to play the 43 MLB in which he was a Pro Bowler in.

Then we need to address Cornerback, I don't have much faith in Lowery at all. He showed flashes but more often than not was burnt, too many times, even for a rookie.

The other S spot opposite Rhodes is up for grabs. Smith can't tackle and Elam lets up too many plays, but then again it seems every other game he makes a big play. He's hit or miss.

    Dream world?

Resigning Vilma to the team and getting Dawkins out in Free Agency to team with Rhodes for two years. Find a CB in the draft.
